My buddy ‪@Ivarr.Bergmann.Alaska‬ helped motivate me in putting this chest rig together! He had a post several months ago featuring a Flecktarn Chicom Rig he had made and he fashioned a holster for it for carrying a Makorav pistol on it. It really made perfect sense for the type of rig he was working on. I've had a Makorav for years and never had a reason to carry it on my kit, UNTIL NOW! This really makes for a perfect guerrilla or Partisan style rig. Lightweight and concealable and, not to mention, inexpensive. All my modifications were done by hand and put my sewing skills to use!

Love the old ChiCom rigs but the wooden toggles are straight garbage and never last with hard use. There’s easy mods you can do to fix that though

The way I've set mine up I can carry 20 or more AR mags with the chicom type 81 holding 8 mags then my lc-2 Alice rig with 4-6 triple mag pouches.

Im one of those little people! LOL I run between 5f 4-6 inches high depending on how much weight ive hauled in my ruck on any given week for PT.. I'm actually buying another Makarov to use on my new rig I showed you as its now been modified like the one you saw in Flecktarn. . For me, as an Escape and Evasion Survivalist in Alaska, the Chicom base is proving an excellent Evasion rig for me.. I hope to see you use this one. Sometimes projects are simply experience and sometimes they get used..

Ha! I would never have guessed. I agree fully about the Chicom rig being a good base to work from. Yeah I think this rig will see quite a bit of use out at the camp property. Perfect setup for it.

great gear, the old chicomm chest rigs are awesome. I have many chest rigs the slim downed 3-4 mags flanked by 2 gp pouches is just really easy and straight forward. I got an LBT Rhodesian, fereday and sons repro and some Flecktarn patterned chest rig Im not sure by who its just 3 mags flanked by two gp pouches supposed to be from some German gear but the side pouches work great as pistol holsters with no mods needed. The real value is running it with a belt of some sort you can carry a lot of gear really easily with a chest rig and belt system

You do these modifications by hand? I'm looking to do this for myself. But know very little about sewing. So how'd you remove the pouches l, the kind of stitch, how to make the stitch are the things I'd like to learn.

Yes, I hand stitched all the mods... I used a simple seam ripper to remove the old pouches. For sewing I used a heavy duty thread and needle (canvas is tough stuff) and used a thimble for pushing the needle through the material. The 2 stitches I used are a running stitch and a whip stitch... sewguide.com/easy-hand-stitches/

This is from my uncles collection of surplus gear. I believe this was a gun show find from the 1980's. Probably Russian Afghan war period but I am not sure. His collection was pretty vast.
