+GumboGalahad Ah, the early 90's. That's when I bought my 2 AKMs ( Chinese MAK 90 and Romanian Romak, before the Clinton BS on imported Chinese weapons ) and my Norinco SKS copy. AKs were inexpensive then, so were old WW2 bolt actions. I can see why the AKs and SKS are expensive now ( especially with Biden ), but why are the WW2 bolt actions getting expensive now? I think my AKs were a couple hundred each ( used, arsenal rebuilds ) and the SKS was $150 or so, with some ammo in the deal.
@Blue Savage Everything was a lot less restrictive and regulated in those days, from guns to controlled, prescription meds ( Drs actually took a patient's word for it when you said "I need something stronger at a higher dosage for my chronic pain", for example ). Things like guns, ammo, mags, chest rigs, tac vests, etc... were much cheaper as well, and in greater supply at more places. It was a lot better than nowadays, that's for sure
I bought the 3 pouch Chicom rig a few years ago. I use it all the time for the local tactical shooting competition. It was $12 from Amazon and gets the job done. I also have a DCU pattern FLC with pouches that I bought from Amazon for $12 and $40 in pouches,, but I like the Chicom rig better. I also did the buckle mod also as tying the thing behind your back is a pain.
Thank you for speaking the truth and showing options for the normal person. Thank you for not whoring out your channel by constantly shoving expensive products down our throats that none of us can afford. Keep it up brother.
The peace symbol is really a broken cross, they're saying you'll get your peace when Christianity is dead, and it will be many things but peaceful is not one of them. By the way, duality is for cock sucking freemasons, and those luciferian asshole are the problem.
@@seatednorth8190 actually, the Peace Symbol is a combination of the semaphore config for the letters "N" and "D", which stood for Nuclear Disarmament.
I have several 63's, with 3 pouches, and one with 4. I've found that they will hold 2 aluminum/military type mags each, VERY tight with the flaps down. And, the smaller pouches will hold 3, 20 round boxes. As far as medical, I'm an "Old Corpsman", former EMT, and retired RN. I've got medical equipment all over me, lol!! I too, have tried several different rigs, and have found the 63 to be the best of all. You and I have similar trains of thought, and I really enjoy your u tube channel. Thanks for what you do. Carry on.
I was just looking at these on ebay last night. My AK mags don't fit my AR pouches, and this might be a good way to have a whole separate rig set up and ready. Thanks Reid Henrichs, God Bless America, Liberty or Death
Reid, can you please do a video and break down all the medical stuff you carry and explain what it is? I've noticed that on every one of your videos you have some sort of medical device on everything you plan to put on your person. I'm starting to think that you know something and you should be sharing. Tell PN to pick up her socks. :)
I bought one of these to use as an M14 rig and it's great! The mags fit great after you break it in with some light use; not too tight or too loose. It's a very tough fabric and the stitching is super strong. To anyone wondering; the 2 outside pouches will fit an M14 mag but won't quite close with the 20 rounders. The 5 center pouches close perfectly. The straps on the back are very adjustable; I'm 6'2" and 190 lbs and I can wear the rig over just a T-shirt or over winter clothing.
Dang, Reid. Good ideas. Thanks for doing these "on a budget" rigs. You're experience is saving me a ton of cash. This isn't a fashion show. Go with what's proven over and over through history. It indeed repeats it's self. Thanks again.
I can't wait to come and train with you guys at valor ridge. I like the fact that there is no cocky ego just helpful information. See you on the ridge soon hopefully.
"why don't you come on over to the team for the big win? son, all i have ever asked of my men is that they obey my orders as though they would the word of God..." ".....we are jolly green giants, walking the earth, WITH GUNS!" "is that you, John Wayne? is this me?"
Sigkim the first one was clearly apocalypse now, the second one i don't recognize ata ll. if you watched the video you'd have understood why so many of the comments are full metal jacket quotes.
Sigkim thanks again, will do. actually just tried it and the first result that wasn't some random unrelated crap was a youtube posting of the entire britney spears film of the same title. i'll keep looking. lol
Awesome content man! I'm a bondsman in NC and my coworkers always give me shit about how I carry when we suit up. I appendix carry when I'm out and about and that's the draw I practice. When we go full goon the I throw on the plate carrier and tuck my shirt in but keep my handgun in the same spot because THAT'S THE DRAW I PRACTICE!
Reid is awesome. Not trying to sell the most expensive new fad. He’s actually serious about helping men be able to defend their families and themselves. Most people can’t afford to spend 3000 dollars on a rifle and several thousands on gear. I wish all American men were like him. They used to be. That’s why America was blessed by God. Good times make weak men. We are about to see rough times.
I use one for my M1A the only change I felt I needed was to fill the bottom of the mag pouches with some foam because my mags would ride low in the pouch and getting them out was a bit of a chore easy solution though can't beat the price of this rig
I don't think having peace signs on your gun stuff is an oxymoron. I think that they go together quite nicely. Guns can maintain the peace. People won't fuck with other people if they know they're armed.
I know PD/warrant officers that wear their duty rig one way 8 hours a day everyday then put on their entry gear on a couple times a month that's completely set up different and they forget wear half their shit is. I agree keep it simply and the same. My shiny leather rig looks just like my tactical nylon one
Thank you! I like down to earth, real deal, gear & discussion. Thats what we all need unless youre a greet Beret, special operations ( which 99% of us are not) This is what we need. K.I.S.S.
I like the idea of one rig per weapon. Create a go to bag for each one and store them together. However I would still utilize my battle belt as it carries my FAK and other items. For instance it carries my original issue canteen from the 70's. It may be old, like me, but it still serves its purpose.
I have several of those rigs, 3 and 4 pouches. I've found that the mag pouches will hold 2 AR mags each, and the 2 smaller pouches will hold 3, 20rd boxes of AK/AR rds. Double the ammo, and the rig handles the weight well. The boxes on the ends seem to balance the rig out when you start pulling the mags out when you get into the shit. I was a Navy Corpsman, so I got used to carrying a pretty comprehensive medical kit aside from the individual kit ( coupla battle dressings and the cellophane wrapper from a pack of cig's for a chest seal, heh heh) on the back of my web gear belt. Anyway, that's my two cents. Really enjoy your fb page. Carry on.
“So you got Born to kill written on your helmet, but have a Peace Symbol pin on your Kevlar...Is that some kind of a sick joke!” “Inside of every Vietnamese is an American trying to get out” 😁🇺🇸
Great! Now, there is always something more to get/strive for.... Closest thing that I've got to any battle rifle is a 5.56 style AK-pistol and Rossi m92 (unless 22lr is considered). What might be a decent minuteman ammo carrier for any of the "mentioned" systems? Up until now, just an Eagle-creek guide's-bag and I side with the Rossi in .357mag.... ??? (love to own one of everything/what works with what I've got, now ... ??)
+ DAVE MARKIEWICZ I'm so glad to hear someone owning a Rossi. Among my pistols is a 4"bbl Rossi M .357 in blue steel. Very underrated and overlooked guns
Lol, I just bought one how ironic. I believe mine is a type 81? 4 cells for mags then 2 loose ammo pouches on either side. I have the same philosophy as you sir. Underneath interchangeable loadouts on top depending upon the situation. I know this videos old I hope you are doing well.
Those waterproof pouches on the sides were intended for holding an cleaning/maintenance kit. They can hold three 10 round stripper clips for the SKS but are harder to reach. A basic med kit I think is a better idea. These chest rigs were meant to allow a soldier to carry an assload of ammo in relative comfort and do really inexpensivly. What's not to love?
I appreciate the cost-savings effort that you are trying to provide to your audience - because it seems that EVERYTHING costs an arm and a leg these days. I also know that kit is like your weapon - there are so many setups and every single bit of it is personal. There are ways that I set up my AR that others may not and that's all good. But one of the most important lessons I've learned - from my mentors, (SOCM's) was that a chest rig is not just a fancy ammo carrier. It's a life support system. Meaning what you have on your shoulders and chest needs to do A LOT more than just supply you with ammo. It needs to be able to support you in a variety of circumstances and in a variety of ways. When I build a chest rig, adaptability and flexibility are the guiding principles, that are overarched by "This is a Life Support System" mantra. For example, I use pouches that can be used for 5.56, 7.62, an ifak, even a holster for my Glock. I want my chest rig to provide the ability for comms; the ability to self-treat my wounds, or the wounds of another, so quick access to multiple TQ's; the ability to feed myself; the ability to secure a threat; the ability to store a map or nav aids; markers, notepad, chem lights, etc. I just struggle with not having any kinda TQ, ifak, or comms. Also it seems that it would be hard to replace a mag in the vest. While in the military we had a virtual endless supply of mags, most of us in a SHTF situations as civilians do not have an endless supply of mags. That said, I'm going to TRY to shove my mag in a pouch or dump bag. The utilitarian beauty of the PALS system is NOT so I can cover every square inch of vest with ammo pouches, (I've seen a guy secure 14 double ammo pouches to his PC). The utilitarian beauty of PALS is that I can quickly and painlessly adapt my kit to support different missions. Having an ammo vest really restricts you from being to adapt to mission parameters, and adapt to that FUBAR guy Murphy and his laws that interject every well planned op. I appreciate what you're doing. But I just have a very different take on what a chest rig is designed or purposed to do. These opinions are my own and mine only. Well also the opinions of my mentors..
Thanks Reid! Just received my type 63, $12.99 and free shipping from ebay. It had some small patches of light mold, ran it through the washer and it's good to go! Greatly appreciate all the video's and insightful/helpful information.
Oh man. I had to show some serious restraint on not extending that joke even more lol. It's Reid's channel, so I won't troll too hard. Funny comment though.
Thanks for this. I appreciate the tips and advice you have. Just ordered a few of these from Amazon after seeing this video for $14.95 + $5 shipping (not eligible for Prime) price as of 8.12.15. GO VOLS!
I am so happy you started your own channel. Quality non elitist content. I hope to come out to Valor Ridge and learn from you in person. Thank you for your work.
Updated link from Amazon for anyone that wants this, now only $10 - but may be slightly different from what Reid has. Loklode Chinese Military Surplus SKS Type 56 Semi Ammo Stripper Clips Chest Rig: www.amazon.com/dp/B01MQLSILU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-1mhDb0X0XY3Y
I bought one of these because of this video. $11 shipped from China. Got it put it on. Amazingly comfortable. I have one suggestion. Esstac has these pouches system called KYWI. they have kydex inserts for them. I ordered the tall insert. Stuck it in one of the pouches on my type 63 rig. Fits perfectly. Cut the flaps off. Best upgrade for this rig. Love it. Try it out.
Load out rigs can be found cheap on ebay....like all USGI new and used surplus. flc vest, pouches, everything you need and all free shipping.....just another alterative for better gear on the cheap.
No sir he did not. All he mentioned was "stand alone level 4 slick plate carrier"... We're looking for the exact product here. I've tried looking around using those terms and im finding nothing like his video.
Just went to Amazon in the link .....it shows Product Currently Unavailable .....glad I've had mine for a while now ....might need to get 1 or 2 more later :)
For just a little more money one could step up to a SADF pattern 83 chest rig. Ar mags without some sort of mag pul can be hard to grab but 7.62x39 and 5.45x39 mags work great. It will fit .308 battle rifle mags as well.
Not sure shades of black, white, and tan make a rainbow, but color coding different types of ammo that way makes sense. A Chi-com rig... well whatever works. I would think it would work for AK mags, wasn't it designed for that? I personally will never get an AK vs. an AR, and so be it by own self-imposed limitations. Stand alone plate carrier makes sense to me also.
Hello: Well Reid I stopped the video at 2:57 and went to Ebay and ordered 2 and a bag pouch SD-31090. Ebay has plenty of these at 3:00 P.M. Some times I think I would like to ride from Va, over to visit Reid. Have a good one.
i like your channel Reid!! because you are down to earth...that being said, does a civilian REALLY need a chest rig? i wear jeans and a tshirt EVERYDAY..Shouldnt i train in these. i mean if anything ever happens chances are i wont have my chest rig. love the channel bud!!
Ok, I have owned a fair share of AKs. Some gun shops might let you come in and try to see if your AK will accept the mags. The most important is not to buy shit magazines in the first place. I have owned all the major types including what someone called Crapco. I have had damn fine success with tapco. Try them before you start slamming them. You might be surprised.
BINGO! I use the green for AK's and I have a cheep knock off in black for AR's. I had been pondering a battle belt, but must agree with you on every day cary. Thanks! Oh, I'm 75 years old and in Viet Nam we were armed with mostly WWII arms. It's been quite a transition to new shooting stances and tactics.
If you get it from Chinese web sites like taobao(Chinese equivalent of eBay) it's even cheaper, it's like 5 bucks for the rig itself, International shipping is usually around $3
Great video and great idea what works and for not a lot of money and its ready go and be useful. Goes in hand with Kalashnikov's philosophy: complicated things are not useful, but useful things are simple.
Reid thank you so much for putting me on this dude. I have some nice chest rigs but dude I like this rig a lot I modified it a bit I put some shock cord around the mag pouches for extra retention and put a buckle on the waist strap and yup you are so right man goood to gooo I'm about shit that works and not being Joe tactical. Plus now I got a rigs for my whole family since they are so cheap....By the way Reid's hair reminds me of Sampson (Judges 13-16) true warrior's have long hair ,unlike the government makes you get a haircut
I was doing some experimenting with mine, trying to see if I could really turn it into a first rate setup. Love the versatility since I own an AR, an AK74, an AK47 and just got a 5.56 AK. Anyways, it's possible to attach a MOLLE compatible pouch to the waist or shoulder strap. You can use tape or a safety pin to make sure it stays put. Doing this you can have a dedicated IFAK rather than trying to cram medical into the side utility pouches or carrying a separate one on your body.
Your link was out of stock, but i found another for 22$.Thanks for the tip!I have seen these but didnt want to throw away even 20$ on crap.Great service your doing for us out here. Thanks again!
