I found something in The Book of Abraham that's pretty telling. In it, GOD is quoted talking to "Abraham" when he is in his 60's... and calls him "Abraham" over 30 years before God himself renames him. At that time ...his name was ABRAM. Whoops! And the following is directly from the LDS website, these descriptions of the chapters, referencing multiple Gods and creation. If this doesn't stick out as pure blasphemy and polytheism, I don't know what does. Direct contradiction with The Bible and even contradicts the BoM. "Chapter 4 The Gods plan the creation of the earth and all life thereon-Their plans for the six days of creation are set forth. Chapter 5 The Gods finish Their planning of the creation of all things-They bring to pass the Creation according to Their plans-Adam names every living creature." It's these and many, many other things that mormons ought to frankly be embarrassed about, and would be laughable to even any amateur biblical scholar if they weren't leading people away from true faith. If you really want a good chuckle sometime, go read D&C 132 and Joseph's clear and blasphemous attempts to smooth over adultery with his wife by writing himself and her into fictional commandments from God, regarding polygamous marriage. Anyone who tells you that you just believe what you were brought up to believe is full of it. I was raised mormon my whole life, and only when I began to study the claims myself in adulthood did I realize what a sham all of the doctrine is, how unbiblical - no, anti-biblical all of it is. Now according to the Mormon religion this is the worst heresy possible and really only the ones who fall away from the church are the ones that go to hell. Now I take this stuff very seriously and I would be very worried about my soul if there was even an ounce of truth in mormon doctrine after all of my studies. It is pure tripe, as nice as the people are. They are grossly misled.
i think it is very hard to think for one's self. as a teen i tried it, but only came up with opposite of what i had been taught. that lead to drugs and hoplessness. that didn't work. thinking for yourself means giving up some of what your parents believed sometimes and keeping some of what your parents believed sometimes. it's hard for a lot of people to give up mormonism but keep god. they end up throwing the baby out with the bath water. a lot of them become atheists. thinking for yourself is very difficult, if at all possible. we're so heavily influenced by outside forces, many which are wrong, many of which are not good nor bad, some of which lead to death, some of which are true and support life. the most difficult thing in life is rejecting what your parents hold dear and sacred. it may mean that you reject your parents, or are rejected by your parents and family. abraham rejected his father's religion. terah was a polytheist. abraham rejected his father's religion, but did not reject his father. he stayed with his father until his father died, supporting his father in his old age. thus obeying the 10 commandments, which were not given at the time but were etched into abraham's heart by the holy spirit.
