This is the last of my three-part presentation on the Book of Mormon characters. In this video, I will discuss what I think is the probable method Joseph Smith used to create the characters on the Whitmer document. My thesis is that he invented the characters on the spot and that while he was no doubt influenced externally by his culture, he was also inspired internally by previous invented characters. I will show that not only did Joseph Smith distort or alter the English alphabet and numbers, but he modified and revised his own invented characters, which is not what one expects of a real language. Indeed, the characters on the Whitmer document have a contrived or invented quality, which (as we have seen in the previous video) was consistent with magic tradition.
