Duane - This would be a fantastically useful presentation if the microphone wasn't placed inside of a shoe and wrapped in a blanket. Please seek some assistance with presentation and recording, your videos could have a greater impact if presented clearly.
Audio quality was really bad, I chose to stop listening unfortunately, despite wanting to know more. If there is a better version in terms of sound I'd appreciate the link :)
Excellent points. *Joseph Smith would have been 6 years old when the War of 1812 started*. That experience definitely would have left an impression on him as it did to most Americans. Living through a 2 and a half year long war would leave an impression on anyone. Joseph Smith could have later read about the war in books like *The Late War* in his teenage years and used that to construct the wars between the Nephites and the Lamanites.
My English is not good but what I want to try to say is that Im going in the Mormon church because I'm looking for God and I been a little be in a different religion to try but the problem is that I leek to read a lot books and one of the most that I like is Buddhism or love and I'm in a very bad situation I think the Misioneros are really good people but the problem with is they have to read more books I mean I been reading a lot and is very difficult to me believe in what I been reading I think nothing is more important than be a good person .?
(CONT)@ isthechurchtrue That link that I sent to you in my last comment DEBUNKED ALL THOSE ANTI-Book of Abraham videos. Therefore you're all wrong on all of your anti-Mormonism!
+isthechurchtrue I completely agree with your assessment. I also think Joseph was greatly influenced by working with his father at a young age. You'll often hear Mormons say "how could a young, uneducated boy fabricate such a story" and the answer is he learned how to be a good liar from a very young age, mostly by watching his father. I've seen very young children (often from poor families) who are expert liars and easily able to manipulate adults. Street smarts are far more useful than proper education when it comes to manipulation.
Goh Modley: As to chiasmus, that particular literary pattern is no more proof of 'divine inspiration' in the Book of Mormon than it was in James Strang's 'revelations', or the Qur'an, or Dr. Seuss's poem "Green Eggs and Ham". see www.mormonthink.com/glossary/chiasmus.htm
Richard Holmes, you accuse so-called "anti-Mormons" of being very disrespectful people. This in and of itself shows great disrespect from you. You have trolled almost every site I have seen, making your accusations, but never giving any hard evidence that would refute any of the assertions of those "disrespectful anti-Mormons". It's just immature name-calling. It would be to your benefit if you would address the issues rather than making ad hominem attacks.
How did you take into account the recent discovery that the Book of Mormon text -- grammar and vocabulary, is based on a dialect called Early Modern English, about a century earlier. For details ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oHJzY_9RZ4E.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5KfoSVsH7Vg.html www.mormondialogue.org/topic/71061-skousen-carmack-lecture-take-aways/ The reason for this is still under discussion -- we just don't know.During the thirty years Royal Skousen has been working on the Book of Mormon Critical Text Project, he has discovered certain words and phrases that appear on the surface to be either ungrammatical or stylistically unusual. Some critics have claimed that these phrases are Joseph Smith’s dialect mixed with a crude imitation of the language of the King James Bible. But many of these phrases can be tied to Early Modern English, in use from 1530 to 1730. Skousen also identifies phrases from the King James Bible that are skillfully woven into the Book of Mormon text in unexpected ways as well as numerous issues that Protestants argued over during the 1500s and 1600s, such as infant baptism. Although the Book of Mormon contains elements from Early Modern English, it is not an Early Modern English text. It is unique. byustudies.byu.edu/content/language-original-text-book-mormon (premium article)
"Skousen also identifies phrases from the King James Bible that are skillfully woven into the Book of Mormon text" as mentioned by several Mormon scholars, JS was a walking bible. It's very problematic that a document written by ancient Americans is saturated with KJV text. Dan Wees has conducted extensive research the pervasive amount of KJV English embedded in BoM text. In fact, nearly every page. Equally damaging is the fact that the BoM includes both 2nd Isaiah as well as long Mark, which essentially kills any notion that the BoM is an ancient document.
You forgot one "tiny" detail in your research == you did not validate your methodology. You need t compare your results with the Late War by comparing books written AFTER 1830. If you get higher results with a later book, that would indicate your methodology is flawed. Just statistical happenstance. A professional would have done this.
+Richard Holmes Your linked video is a classic example of obfuscation and misrepresentation by a Mormon apologist. Jeremy did not claim that "The Late War" is an exact parallel of the Book of Mormon. But anyone with an open mind can see how the Book of Mormon could have been inspired by "The Late War".
Then how did JUST Joseph Smith think to go out and plagiarize then? ONLY those who failed to take that into consideration WHEN OVER the YEARS saying that Joseph Smith plagiarized various books to come up with the Book of Mormon would have to be PRETTY SERIOUSLY DAMNED STUPID!
@@richardholmes7199 Absolutely, in his analysis Hales does nothing to statistically compare the BoM with other publications available during JS's time. This study does using big data analysis. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BccPmfR5oSs.html
Richard Holmes If you were going to create a fraud you don’t just go in plagiarized something. That’s obvious. Nothing is written in a vacuum. All writings reflects The time and culture it was written in. What this shows is 1) The book of Mormon is not unique in its writing style. Other people would try to write things in biblical English. And produce box that feel and sound like the book of Mormon. 2) the late war is a book Joseph Smith may have very well read and could have influenced consciously or subconsciously. There are striking similarities. 3) on another note you would expect the book of Mormon to resemble ancient writing if it was written thousands of years ago. All the content in the book of Mormon reflects the questions and culture of Joseph Smith’s day. There is nothing unique in it whatsoever that reflects anything we know about ancient culture. Chiasmus is not unique. The late war has chiasmus. The anochonisms in the book of Mormon discredit it completely. 4) when looking at all the evidence as a whole there is nothing special in the book of Mormon. It is completely explainable that Joseph Smith wrote it.
Real Vs Ideal They're language is unknown, WHY would it resemble ancient writing? You also stated that, ''2) the late war is a book Joseph Smith may have very well read and could have influenced consciously or subconsciously. There are striking similarities.'' You're wrong, guaranteed. The similarities between the Book of Mormon and SOME books is a natural occuring thing. Both Neibiz and Isaac Newton both thought of calculous around the same time (7 years difference), neither having knowledge of the other on this.
Real Vs Ideal Two different guys around the same time decided to start up a burger joint, call it Whatta-Burger. Neither proprietor having any knowledge whatsoever of the other doing the exact same thing. But rather two different guys independently, separately from each other around the same time decided to go out and start up a burger joint, call it Whatta-Burger. This is a natural occurrence, not plagiarism.
Indeed. As heavymetalmormon has You Tube videos and websites that clearly debunk the anti-Mormon claim that Joseph Smith plagiarized. I ask the anti-Mormons, HOW could just Joseph Smith have decided to go out and plagiarize? They cannot respond.
@@richardholmes7199 have you seen this video? Check out between 4:45 and 8:25.....these anti-Mormons are something else ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QKMWYMGunIg.html
The only one who has come at least somewhat close to showing plagiarism is that disrespectful (As if all anti-Mormons are not very disrespectful people!) Kendall Sheets. Kendall Sheets cannot however show any info paralleling that of other attorneys who have uncovered true actual cases of plagiarism.
I think part of the reason it's difficult to prove plagiarism with absolute certainty is because JS often stole concepts and not exact sentences. Nevertheless there is ample evidence that he was a complete fraud, perhaps the most obvious example being the Book of Abraham. Most importantly there is no denying that what Joseph taught was contrary to Biblical teaching about Jesus and the gospel, regardless of where his ideas came from.
Google ''Book of Abraham Debunks anti-LDS Lies You Tube'' That video DEBUNKS ALL OF THAT ANTI-BOOK OF ABRAHAM INFO (books, You Tube videos, websites) from the anti-Mormon bigots.
If you really believe he didn't use other books you're an idiot. Look at the late war for instance, you can take 4 sentences and compare... Sentence 1 is in paragraph A, sentence 2 is in paragraph B etc. It is so obvious. And your butt buddy Paul... Hahaha. I saw his videos, did you see the one where he used a special decoding software? Haha seriously? That was the dumbest thing I've seen, I showed my believing member friend in the bishop Ric and he laughed and laughed, he was embarrassed for Paul. Oh by the way I played ping pong with God and he told me you were an idiot, if you want proof I played ping pong with God I will prove it to you... There's 2 ping pong paddles, who was the second paddle for? There's my proof and the way you look at proof this should logically make sense to you.
Joseph Smith plagiarized and synthesized nearly every popular issue of his day, as well as cultural practices in the Old Testament such as polygamy. He took concepts such as modalism, vegetarianism, FreeMasonry, and the popularity of new Egyptian discoveries, and tweaked them into his new religion. Anytime his popularity waned he came up with a new 'revelation' to convince his followers that he was a modern 'prophet'.
