Instagram - AdamTheWooATW Expect to see more content similar to this for a while . I’ll mix in a couple other subjects too here and there but have a lot of filming locations in mind till end of year or after . Some will be well known and some very obscure , just going with that I enjoy . Took last couple weeks off to rethink the future of this channel and realized I need to focus on quirky passion projects . So, for now ...I will
This video was great, I love the filming locations!! 99% of us aren’t in Hollywood and would like to see these locations so the only way is videos like yours, you also did a great job lining up the landmarks and showing correct perspective. So excited for more! I have read about the old DeliLu studios before and that little area where town was placed for the show. Here is a link to some cool info I found some time back: www.retroweb.com/40acres_final_years.html
Big fan of the Mayb, the Andd, the Bee and the Barn! Even the Goob, the Gome and the Floyd. Let us not forsake the Oope. Thank you for the diligent archaeology and history. And thanks for sharing.
Nice to see you back, firing on all cylinders Adam!. Love your passion for filming locations!. Sadly growing up in the UK, I’m not too familiar with the Andy Griffith Show but I do know that Red Studios was the exterior location for Maroon Cartoon Studios in Who Framed Rodger Rabbit. One of my favourites!
Welcome back Adam! I sure have missed you! And..you are covering one of my favorite subjects! The Andy Griffith show! I knew it was filmed in Cali..but have never seen the location! Thanks for sharing! P.S....Do you think the rocks that Earnest T. Bass threw are still there? Lol!
A few weeks ago I watched the episode where the aunt made a bunch of pickles to enter into the county fair. They end up being horrible and Narney decides to get rid of them by stopping motorists and giving them jars of the pickles. The first guy he stops is traveling home to Portland OR. It was so random and cool to hear Portland mentioned on The Andy Griffith Show lol.
Awesome video. Definitely shows the amount of research you did. Besides it being another great video from you, you've set yourself apart from all the other "experts" by statements of, to best of knowledge, your opinion, etc. and not having everything as fact. Also saw set of Hogan's Heroes in picture while describing old dirt road going out of town. An absolute fan of the B/W episodes while able to survive a few complete color ones. Surprising how many other TV shows and movies used the same Mayberry town setting. Look forward to future videos.
Love this episode!!! And it’s cool to see that not only was Andy Griffith shot here but the creature from the black Lagoon and the silence of the lambs. love that you are going to more stuff like this love going out to see places like this. It’s funny everyone keeps saying it’s good to see you back on but you’ve been on with Kate and Spence a lot so it’s like you never left. You look great btw can’t wait for more 💕💕
It would be nice to get Ron Howard to do a lot of the tour scenes where he went fishing with Andy Griffin etc and whole lot about that show as well. WOW! Where is he now?
I read the title and got excited. Watched Andy Griffith show growing up with my parents, dad loves it. The research and effort put forth to put this together doesn't go unappreciated, thank you for your hard work Adam!
@@Kimzapoppin I live in Lexington, and work for a company based in Mount Airy! Nice small town and awesome pork chop sandwich at Snappy's! The Loaded Goat is a great place too!
Because that show was based on good values and good values are not popular. the BLM would tear the markers down. I am not talking about the bureau of land management eather
cenhghts 🙏🏾Of course they don’t. Can’t expect change from those who don’t want it and you can’t expect the point to be received from those who purposefully reject it.
Chad Baxter I'm thinking that Adam needs to do a road trip and meet her in person. Can you imagine the behind the scenes stories that she could tell. Some one needs to interview her for them.
I have watched this show repeatedly for such a big part of my life, and yet it was filmed so long ago, meeting a living cast member would be almost surreal. It's hard to explain, but hopefully other fans of the show understand somewhat...
Watching the old Andy Griffith Show reruns has gotten me through "The 'Rona" lockdown (and semi-lockdown). The enduring warmth and whimsical humor are a reminder of an era when there was at least a tip o' the hat to human decency. Great way to wind down in the evening. Thanks for this really interesting background info -- and welcome back!
@kes....I listened to some Andy Griffith interviews, where he was quite candid about the show. In one, he observed the culture Mayberry portrayed, never existed anywhere in the USA. In effect, it was a fantasy. That was--is--the power of illusion. Indeed, there are fans that to this day, that will curse you if you say otherwise. Anyway, as a boy I loved this show.
I couldn't agree more. We all were kinda decent to each other once upon a time...or so it seemed. I know people had moral compasses back then or keep their weirdness quiet.😊
This reminded me of the time I went to my friend's house and there was someone sitting on his couch that looked like Ron Howard. I got a little closer to him and realized it was Ron Howard! He was there because his Dad knew him because he wrote some of the episodes for Happy Days. Oh and he also wrote some of the original episodes for Laverne & Shirley
Don't know how I missed this one before the Three's Company video but, The Andy Griffith Show, another one of my all-time favorites. A little bit sad to see how things have changed so much. Nonetheless a great, great video.👍👍👍👍👍
I was just doing a little research on Red Studios Hollywood after watching this video and I was surprised to find out the entrance was actually used in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" as Maroon Cartoons. Pretty cool.
Yes, it was... I used to frequent a jazz club way back when... on not far away on N. Cahuenga Blvd, actually 2 J Clubs over the yrs on N. Cahuenga Blvd not far from Desilu Cahuenga Studios/Red Studios Hollywood
Adam, thank you so much for all you did on the making of this video. You really did an awesome job pointing out where the buildings used to be. I’m 58, and this show is my all time favorite. I really like how you took us to Meyer’s Lake, what a treat. June of 2019, I took the family down to Mount Airy, N.C., and I had the privilege of meeting Betty Lynn (Thelma Lou), had my photo taken with her, and she even kissed me on the cheek. Eat your heart out Barney! Anyway, I really appreciate all you do to take us back in time. That’s why you’re my favorite RU-vid channel. You’re the BEST! -Stephen, Ohio 🇺🇸
Love it! I grew up about a quarter mile from the "back forty". I used to walk past on my way to jr. high, and you could see the tower from Hogan's Heroes behind that berm, too. La Ballona creek was the other side, and we could see Mayberry and Gomer's sets from it.
Adam. That was awesome!! Still watch that show everyday. Pretty cool how you do the matchups. Keep them coming. As a Miami firefighter, you taking me back to a more peaceful time, helps me take a deep breath.
Just so you know, i find this trivia just as interesting. I often stop episodes of The Rockford Files, Adam-12, Emergency, Draget and various movies like Steve Mcqueen's Bullitt and google the locations of the intersections to see what they look like now. Now you know, you are not the only nut that is interested in this stuff. I find myself sometimes wasting countless hours watching your channel and your buddy's Daze with Jordan the Lion. One question I have is have you two watched Netflix's show "Episodes" with Mat Leblanc and what is your take on it? I find it hilarious and a bit depressing if at all realistic about the movie and tv industry.
That group of buildings next to Mayberry and at the end of the dirt road that was used for out of town shots is the outdoor set for Hogan's Heroes. So the folks of Mayberry were living next to a German POW camp.
Hey Adam, thank you for doing this video. My grandpa was a huge fan of the show. I'd get off of work and go visit him and I'd stay a few hours and usually would leave after The Andy Griffith Show was over. He passed back on April 10th. I hadn't seen him in about two months because of all the Rona stuff. I work with a Dr and didn't wanna risk taking it to him. Some of my best memories will be of him laughing while we sat and watched the show. No matter how many times he had seen an episode he would always laugh just as hard as the first time. Thank you for this vlog and all the time and dedication that went into making this video. He would have loved to watch this. Stay safe man.
Great video! I’m a huge Andy Griffith Show fan and love seeing these old locations even if they don’t look the same anymore. I know there exists some home movies that were shot on the set of the show. I believe, and don’t quote me on this, they were filmed by Rance Howard and it shows the cast hanging out and playing around on set. You can see a lot of the background scenery and buildings that production would normally try to obscure during actual filming.
Hooray, you're back! And I do thank you for this tour of one of my all-time favorite shows. I've probably watched most Andy Griffith episodes 30 times! It's bittersweet, though, to see so much is gone, but again, thanks so much for taking all this time and doing all the research for us.
I'm glad you're back. We're all looking forward to seeing what you have in store for us. BTW, I've watched other YT channels do "filming locations for the Andy Griffith Show," and none of them measured up to this video. A lot of work and research went into this one. Well done!
I think my favorite episode was The Haunted House. It’s truly amazing how this show appealed to such a wide range of people. We still watch the reruns fairly regularly. Really enjoyed this one it was definitely a trip down memory lane. Thanks!
I absolutely love this video. One of my favorites. I live close to the real Mayberry “Mount Airy” North Carolina. My husband and I actually got married at the “Mayberry” courthouse here. Andy plays a HUGE part of our lives. Thelma Lou just celebrated her 94th birthday. Also, last year they threw her a huge birthday party at the Loaded Goat. (A bar themed after the episode) thank you for this episode!!
I’ve been obsessed with the 40 Acres backlot and the Andy Griffith Show for over 20 years. I’ve watched every video and read every website about it. This was great! Thank you. I’d like to walk those hallowed grounds some day. I’m interested in where things happened. Especially where movies and TV shows were filmed. I’m always researching it. You should do a video on where “It’s a Wonderful Life” was filmed. It was at RKO Radio Pictures Studios in Culver City, California, and the 89-acre RKO movie ranch in Encino, where "Bedford Falls" was built. It’s a quiet neighborhood now. I’m sure the residents there don’t realize they’re living in Bedford Falls. It’s fascinating to line up the aerial photos of the back lot in the 1940’s with Google Earth views today and see where George Bailey’s house was, where the Main Street and all the shops were. That would make a great video. Love all you do. Really fun to watch your stuff. You are very committed to this. How do you find the time?? Keep up the great work!
Thank you for this. Yes, the old 40 acres backlot is long gone but I too have an interest to see where all of that happened. Something about just going to the site. As you probably know, just a very short distance away was the Atlanta Train Depot and of course Tara. A bit further was Hogan’s Heroes and Gomer Pyle. All of those shooting locations now given over to buildings as well. But just the amount of film history there! Many more productions too. I thought about obtaining an overhead view of the lot back in its heyday and trying to overlay a modern map with the aid of Photoshop. If I am successful, I will see if I can put it up on your FB fan page. Thank you again.
I watch the Andy Griffith Show every single day.. And Being from Cali watching this I had no idea of where, and how this was filmed.. But the funny thing is I can remember back in the 70's when I was a kid my grandfather saying: look at that beautiful country.. They don't know what country is around here boy.. Him talking about "down south".. Only if he was here today LOLOLOLOL.. Thank you for a very enjoyable video..
@Toxic Trolla of RocknRolla dude It's common knowledge of 40 Acres...it wasn't a big secret There are hundreds of videos and web sites And if it's already public knowledge...
@Toxic Trolla of RocknRolla valid point.....but the heroes are working in their own way....I work 6-am-6pm....don't have the time, but often the inclination.....want to be fair to a vlogger who researches for others and shares content
THIS WAS EXCELLENT ...a tribute to us TRUE fans!!!!!! AND YOU for the dedication..i THANK YOU!!..ADAM ..thank you ..this took a lot of research!!!!! you did it!
Adam this blew my mind and I am grateful to you for this video. I have a story for you. The Andy Griffith show for myself and for many is a refuge from life's challenges. Immersing yourself in Mayberry is food for the soul as you know. Here is the story. I work at Indiana University as an IT computer programmer and I specialized in VR technology. In 2015 IU alumni, Mark Cuban, donated to IU to help our athletics department with new technologies for sports media technology. Part of this donation was to send a delegation of IU leaders and engineers to meet with technology companies that Mr. Cuban works with. I was lucky enough to be part of this delegation. As you can imagine we didn't have much time for sight seeing, but our schedule brought us to RED studios Hollywood. There was a brief mention that this space had be Desilu Productions, but I had no idea of the other depths of American art and history that once walked/worked in these silent halls. When I look back it feels like I unknowingly walked through Mayberry and a bygone era of Hollywood and it gives me a chill. Truly amazing.
Yeeees! My father's favorite show ever!!!! I have seen every episode hundreds of times. Thank you for this Adam. Lost my Dad a short time ago, and this made my day. Lot of memories with him and talking about this show. Thanks Adam.
Adam, this is awesome. When you were walking thru the scrub i was flooded with memories of Gilligan’s Island as well. The plant life. Separate memory but a memory of my youth. Thank you fo the video! And you look great from last I saw you. Age is treating you well.
@@ronavender5920 Yeah same here I was there about 4*5 yrs ago it was a bit of a hike into it but well worth it, the old jeep and the layouts where everything was set up was pretty cool.
I don't remember it much as a kid but I have watched it regular as an adult also gomer pyle usmc alot of the actors go back and forth between the two. My favorite or one of my fav actors allen melvin ssgt hacker and played several characters on andy.
Thanks so much, Adam, for the Andy Griffith tour. I am actually a little surprised and very relieved to know that I am not the only person who just can't get enough of Mayberry and its filming locations. In fact, I had actually done some of the research you presented, and had also found some of the locations. I had planned to visit the Mayberry locations someday, but seeing them on your video is truly fantastic and very helpful. I can't help but feel a bit saddened by how much everything has changed, but it's just nice knowing that these memorable locations are real, and that you can still stand in front of the Mayberry courthouse. Thanks again. It was really enjoyable. Bill
