As an old Anglo Indian ( child of former immigrants) I returned to India for a visit about 25 years ago! How things have changed, including the Anglo Indians who remained in India. They resembled Indians. The Anglo Indians chose the right option for once.....they immigrated! Followed by many Indians who could see the writing on the wall, they did the right thing for once!
I don’t see my comment . Our family lived in Tambaram and had an Anglo Indian friend called Lilian . She left us and went to U.S and after that don’t know where she is U. S . Will love to meet her very nice friend
Superb research work!! Well articulated. I appreciate your efforts. Anglo-Indians, as I learnt from my father, also worked in North Western Railways later renamed as Pakistan Railways. I still remember, as a 10th Grade student, I was introduced by my father to a colleague of his, an Anglo-Indian, Mr Barnet, PWI, NWR/PR, who visited us in Lyallpur in 1968. Anglo-Indians are superb human beings. Their contributions are commendable indeed. Unfortunately, they have become extinct nowadays.
I would love to know if Mt Michael Gallyot is related in any way to the Howell family who lived in Madras in the early eighteen hundreds. The Howell family began with the East India company and eventually spread all over India. I am a proud Anglo Indian with roots in Madras and Bangalore, but grew up in Perth, Western Australia when we as a family migrated there after Independence.
