@@mothersbasement yea the people who think the show/manga would be better if Mob got together with Tsubomi (or Eri) and that therefore the ending flubbed it are really missing the point I'd argue that if Tsubomi did just reciprocate Mob's feelings when our boi confessed, the final arc would kinda be ruined thematically
@ForboJack
@ForboJack Год назад
@@TheBrownestFalcon I think the ending would have worked both ways. It was about Mob being true to himself and accepting every part of his personality as part of himself and stop suppressing them. Self-Acceptance is a huge part in being happy. Yes the og ending shows that even more by how he dealt with her rejection, but he wouldn't be a lesser character if she had the same feelings as him.
@coffeewolfproductions9113
@coffeewolfproductions9113 Год назад
I really don't get the hate for Tsubomi. Rejection can suck both for the giver and recipient but I don't think its Tsubomi's fault. She can't just force herself to like someone romantically when she doesn't and it's not on her to try and return anyone's affection just because they like her. Overall I think its incredible how the show doesn't portray Tsubomi accepting Mob's confession as the ultimate show of how much he's changed. The character development and positive improvement were already there regardless of what Tsubomi's answer would be and its clear that she does care for Mob even if it isn't in the same way he cares for her.

I do really appreciate how much Tsubomi gets characterized in her own arc. They don't retcon anything and show that it actually takes a lot of character to reject someone like Mob. She walks her own path and that gives her a lot more personality than you get out of a lot of women in anime.
@JackgarPrime
@JackgarPrime Год назад
Yeah Tsubomi had some small moments in the first two seasons that show there's a lot more to her than just being the popular girl, then taking the time near the end of the series to show things more from her perspective, and shows that she has as much going on as everyone else in the series. It also makes more sense why Mob would like her so much, because he would care about more than just being the prettiest girl in school.

Yes! I love that she's not demonized for rejecting him, not portrayed as vapid or vain etc for being a popular pretty girl It shows that a girl can have the right to reject someone, even if he's been kind to her, even saved her life, even if he's the MC (or like some men irl- THINKS he is) even if she really likes and cares for him. And that it's totally fine and healthy to feel sad and cry about the rejection, but it's also okay to reject someone and while your feelings are valid. So are hers, you being hurt doesn't entitle you to anything especially not something that disregards others feelings Such a great anime with great positive messages not often seen in the genre

yea it's absolutely fantastic thematically Teru finally, truly rivals - and actually exceeds - Mob when using his powers to save others, even when Mob himself says "please use your powers against me" it's a great thematic inversion of their first fight, but is still very true to their characters: Mob's still begging to stop fighting - except he's begging himself, and Teru's still proud of his power - but he's using it ONLY to protect others despite being attacked, Teru still gets stripped naked by an overwhelming force but this time wins, etc.

I find it interesting that you say Mob is in full control of his powers when he hits 100% because my psychologist has been talking with me about “parts theory” and one component of that is that sometimes a single aspect of ourselves “takes over” so that while it may seem like we’re our normal selves with a bit of emotion, in fact our “wise self” aka the whole of us *isn’t* in control. I think it’s the same with Mob - the part that hit 100% fills his being and takes the wheel, resulting in something that Mob isn’t properly in control of but which is still acting (to some extent) in his own best interests.

I think the big thing about Mob crying over Tsubomi is such a testament to his growth because before, he wouldn't have cried. He would have kept it all in and pretended it didn't bother him. Never has a show made me cry repeatedly. Every SINGLE time I see Mob laughing at the end, it gets me. When Mob passes out running, gathers Emi's paper scraps, fights with Teru (and tragically chokes him out), is celebrated by the Body Improvement Club, tells Reigen that he's a good person, among many, many other moments... I fucking cry. I struggle with anxiety that keeps me from being my truest self sometimes, and I sometimes wonder what my "truest self" even is. I think I empathize with Mob in his desire to be better but grapples with himself internally as well as Reigen who "wants to be somebody" and is searching for a purpose. "Mob's goal in life is to gain the strength to change himself for the better." This is what I've internalized as a result of watching this show and I've been doing work towards bettering myself. I'm gonna be honest, this show actually DID change my life, I went through some bullying in middle school and lost all my friends, once I reached highschool each day was harder than the next, I struggled to do anything, found little to no enjoyment in life, the summer after I graduated I just happened to come across this show, thought it would just be a quick laugh and that's all, but it was the speech Reigen gave to Mob when they first met...I don't know why...but I cried, it's like someone came over to me and said "you don't have to be special, just be a kind person, ok?" From that day on I became happier, my future became brighter, I finally was able to look toward a future that was no longer out of my reach, it was now in my grasp Thank you for reading all this, I know it's probably a little weird that an anime made me so emotional

Mob being able to feel comfortable expressing his emotions and laughing in the end was so heartwarming. That was the result of all the growth we've seen with him. All the battles, all the friends, all the people he's helped along the way, all those that have helped him, it all culminates in a hearty laugh with friends at a birthday party. And that's beautiful.

My personal favorite is Mob's relationship with Mogami, not only for his growth early in season 2, but their later conversation where their ideals actually contend. The reflections of "We need to have faith in eachother to get through life" and "It's also necessary to be hard on people at times" genuinely feel like the core of what mob already knows and what he needs to grow into.

What I love about Mob is how heartfelt and sincerely it's written. One could've just had it be about action and one liners sourcing the comedy, just one set up and battle to the next set up and battle, but it's way, way more than that. You get to see Mob and the others doing quiet things by themselves, you learn not only what makes them tick, but the why as well. It's not even a very complicated story either. Mob just wears its heart on its sleeve, and it doesn't back down from telling stories with a strong emphasis on emotion. I could even argue that Mob is just as much a shojo manga as it is a shonen. Take away the psychic powers, the battles, and what you have is a story about a kid who just wants to be accepted by other people and get with the girl he likes. I can't relate to being a telepath, or using psychic powers to battle other psychics; but I can relate to the other stuff. More than what words can describe, I get it.

I'm nearly 40 but no show has resonated with me (not just anime) as much as Mob Psycho 100 has in ages. It's climbed to the top of my own personal list for the journey it took me on alone, not to mention the quality of craft present in every frame, the music, the ..everything. The ending had me crying happily, laughing alongside Mob. I was a kid in need of a story like this coming up through the middle and high school years of my life. I needed it desperately to remind me that I could change, I could be better, instead of wallowing in anxiety and self-loathing. I got it about twenty years later than it probably would have been a pure megaton of impact but it still pummeled me (emotionally) all the same. I never expected something that, on the surface, is another shounen style series but, instead, became something altogether special. Mob Psycho 100 will be a show, for me, that won't be supplanted any time soon not for all the amazing fights (choreography, animation, framing), the absolute banger OPs or the characters that are well-shaded and feel like people but, because, it does what magnificent art does: It changes your perspective on things. Eternally grateful that I hit play on it a few years back on a whim.

This and Full Metal Alchemist are the two shows that I reccomend to anyone no matter what. Mob is so wholesome and subversive to most anime, I became a personal trainer because of the club that he joined in the show because it's such a great representation of what having someone who believes in you and celebrates your successes can do for a person. It encourages you to grow as a person beyond what you were born with and most of all being kind to everyone as a first and last resort.

What's so crazy, is that this is achieved with, admittedly, relatively shallow plots, because there's only so much you can cram into a gag comic. But there is always this undercurrent of something deeper, with more depth. And when you start to realize the parallels with his own growth, how every time he grows a little it is always reinforced with a conflict. Just, so good. So incredible.

You can get a lot out of a simple story if the Characters are complex and well written. A lot of series have a story that is "tell don't show" and have a lot of one note characters (why Isekai is hated so much) but when the story is simple it gives characters more screentime to develop.

Great shows feature fantastic character development across their run. MP100 is no exception to this; however, it’s not just a show about an unstoppable kid psychic. It’s explicitly a show about his character development. Most shows don’t really bother to be that plain about it since their plot is focused elsewhere. Shigeo’s main goal throughout the show is to *become a better person,* and its greatest irony is that the foundation of his growth is given to him by a scammer desiring success and a spirit desiring worship and power. In the end, his journey not only causes them to become their best selves-it causes them to help him in return. Special shout-out to the Body Improvement Club, who subversively turn out to be the most wholesome supporting team in all of anime.

What a BRILLIANT analysis! I have never heard the breakdown of Claw's name being "tsume" and the implications behind it. Wonderful follow up of your last video on mp100. I might suggest that Tsubomi's character is very delicately constructed because her popularity means her friends and classmates have expectations of her and quick judgement if she doesn't match them. She's afraid of what they'll say or that they'll spread word if she lets them know her sneeze was snotty, for heaven's sake. That doesn't seem like someone with much space to be earnest or trusting, because she's so popular she barely gets to be her own authentic person. In that case, it's more impressive that she is so steadfast to her own code ....

Mob Psycho 100 is one of those extremely rare cases where every single tiny part of the work feels absolutely perfect (at least in my opinion). Change a single line just a little bit and it may lessen its impact. Change a single thing about the animation and it will probably look less visually appealing. Change a single joke a character does and it will end up being less funny than it would be if you left it as is. Every single season of Mob Psycho 100 is a masterpiece in its own unique way. Every single one has more than one moment that comes off as memorable. Season 1 has Reigen's fight against Claw, season 2 has Mob VS Mogami and the separation arc with Reigen, Season 3 has the conclusion of Dimple's character arc, as well as the ending of Mob and Reigen's character arcs, which also give a near perfect conclusion to the whole story. While I do have a favorite (Season 2), I am a firm believer that all three seasons make up something bigger than the sum of its parts. They make up an absolute masterpiece of not just writing, but also animation and even humor. I will never forget this anime, how it changed me, and what it made me realize about a lot of the things that make life worth living.

If everyone is not special, maybe you can be what you want to be. I never knew how this sentence has been printed in my mind so deep. For me, people saying that everyone is special was a burden to me through my childhood. Because I feel like I should search up for a prodigy or something I am specialized since I was born. And that upsets me a lot when I couldn’t find myself having skills more extraordinary than others. Thus, knowing that everyone is not special and I don’t need to be special is such a relief. I am not determined to be anyone means I can be anyone. This simple statement gives me the courage to change and explore what “I want,” not what I should be. Again, love mob psycho for my life. And that is such a great commentary❤
