So the story I gave was based on initial accounts of reports that I read, that apparently have now been rendered inaccurate. According to his confession it was all planned from the start and there was no accident, I only just heard about this after posting the podcast, as I didn't want to keep up with the details of the case after I initially found out.
Gigguk Sorry to comment randomly, but can you tell me where you bought your shirt? It’s sick as fuck and 5 min of google searching didn’t get me anywhere. Ouki is one of my favorite characters and that silhouette is iconic.
A reminder that when Mr Anime was arrested, popular anime like Attack on Titan, Tokyo Ghoul, Sword Art Online, No Game No Life and One Punch Man didn't even exist back then.
Gigguk took "never meet your heroes because they're sure to disappoint you" to another level. Between Connor dodging the pedos and Garnt dodging the killer, this is turning into a... bizarre adventure.
Someone: puts “killed” in the title. RU-vid: your video is gone, reduced to atoms Trash taste: Uses their special font RU-vid: what could these mysterious characters mean? I’m sure they’re completely appropriate and safe for all.
Also HE DID NOT ACCIDENTALLY KILL HIS BROTHER, He was intentionally killed after he shot his mom. His brother was complaining about the noise and he had to shut him up
@@paulgotik From Reighnbot's documentary video, which Joey references, they state at around 4 minutes in that After shooting his mother 2 times in the chest, Trey's brother Mark calls out to complain about the noises. Trey quickly makes his way to his room, grabbing another gun, delivering two shots to his brother. These shots actually didn't kill him and his brother managed to lock himself in the bathroom. After murdering his dad, he then delivers the final shot to his brother, ultimately killing him

@The Sans People joke about death and murderers all the time. South Park and Family Guy took shots at Charles Manson in their hay days. South Park is one of the first comedies to make fun of the Afghani conflict and Osama Bin Laden post 9/11. I’d rather make jokes about serious topics here and there than wallow in pity over the existence of horrible things.
@The Sans if it ain’t your kink it ain’t your kink. I was just providing a reason why people WOULD joke about fucked up shit. I 100% get why not everybody would be into that. I wish it went without saying but there is a time and a place for everything. Playing GTA on the PSP on a speaker isn’t inherently the worst thing you can do but it’s definitely inappropriate if you do just that during a hit-and-run victim’s funeral.

Wanted to post that a few details were off, and I have a full comment chain on Reignbots review and the other top video, but wanted to throw my two cents in. Was best friends with him from 2004-2012ish. We quit talking for a few months before the event happened, but he had been planning to visit for my birthday. First, he didn’t accidentally shoot his brother, he got in a fight with his mom in the garage and shot her. Then, shot his brother while he was sleeping in his favorite recliner and shot his dad when he was standing in their bedroom doorway (I could still walk through that house blind). It’s crazy to see the impact he had on anime RU-vid, and I don’t really pay attention to this side of YT, but I’m willing to answer any questions. If you need proof, I’m in his Akira review, Spirited Away, I’m the preacher in fun times with Joel osteen 1 and 2, and a few other videos. Most of his older “action “ or horror videos before he rebranded as Mr Anime, which is when I went to college. However, for his first and second “season” of the show, he wore the polos I gave him when I moved away to college, and a lot of the anime he reviewed was stuff I gave him when I moved away because I didn’t want to bring it to college and seem like a loser. Anyways, thanks for reading, and bringing light to this tragedy. I miss Rhonda, Lawton, and Mark dearly every day. They were my second family especially during my parents divorce and I’ll never forgive trey for what he did. These scars will never heal but talking about it does help. Maybe one day I’ll give a recount of my life growing up with him but I never wanted any fame or clout for the tragedy, so I didn’t post any videos about it.
As a British teenager, when I imagine America I think of a old man, with a beer belly, holding a gun and he talks like a cowboy who snorted 14 tons of cocaine. But then again, where I live my people have a accent and we sound like we chugged 20,000 cans of red bull in 3 minutes.
@@flor9345 As in cookies do you mean biscuits or actual cookies with the chocolate chips in? The only form of tea I enjoy is Queen Elizabeth memes that say “what in the ear grey fuck” or “earl grey flavoured laughter/confusion”
Glad they did. She covered Mr Anime's descent pretty well. Also yeah Reignbot deserves some love since RU-vid can be bad towards channels like her who does horror stuff
It effected me really deeply when it came out that Mr Anime was arrested. I knew no one at that time in my life who was even remotely into anime and he got me into so much stuff. When you watch these guys in a niche community that only have a few thousand subscribers you feel that connection to the creator, so it effected me a lot when he was arrested
Does anyone besides me remember "The Formal Anime Reviewer?" That guy came out around the same time as HARDMODE, but didn't put out nearly as much content. He just kind of faded away. I miss him, honestly, because his reviews were pretty good for the time. I hope nothing bad happened to him.
Mr anime was the first youtuber that I followed consistently. I remember watching the mr anime is planning something and being excited about what he was planning.
I can relate to this. My favourite teacher from elementary school is a child molester and and in jail for the next 30 or so years. It's hard to describe the feeling of finding something like that out.
Connor was the overpowered anime antagonist all along. According to anime logic, Connor will defeat Joey and the underdog, Garnt, will avenge his friend (that are also previously his enemy that had put up a good fight but got nerfed after switching sides.) In conclusion, you either die as an anime protagonist, or live long enough to become the antagonist of another anime protagonist's story.
Connor is the underdog during his youth that turns into antagonist during his adult because he has reached his peak, so Garnt being anime protagonist trying to beat him makes sense
@@cestalia Now having been defeated by Garnt, he comes to a realisation that he is not the best and begins training again in to win. this defeat is so important to him because he had forgotten the feeling of fun which one experiences during a good match
Stuff like this is why the butterfly effect is so interesting in movies and shows if done correctly. Imagine if someone wished this crazy murderer had never been born and because an awful person was removed from society, there's no antitubers because Garnt & Joey weren't inspired, who then didn't exist to inspire everyone else.
I’m a Texan, don’t have a gun lol I’m pretty sure my dad has a couple hand guns, if anyone ever were to break into his gated community lol I will admit a lot of families here hunt deer and duck, so many do have rifles, few are big collectors. Expensive hobby really.
@@skullcandy14785 Not exactly. My first handgun was a Glock 48 brand new for like 560. And handguns GENERALLY tend to be more expensive than any long barrelled counterpart. Not saying you couldn't find 2 guns worth 5k, those would just be very expensive guns.

I actually lived in the same town as trey. I lived 2 house down from him, It was a small town. he was one of the only people I know who liked anime. I use to hang out with him from time to time. We had some mutual friends. It was very sad to hear what happened to his family.

Funny enough, gigguk taking about his mr anime video from 8 years ago being recommend, a day or two after I watched the first trash taste, Podtaku eps where immediately recommended to me afterwards
I imagine the mini documentary is why the video is getting recommended to people. A lot of people that happen to watch Gigguk but did not know of the Mr. Anime video likely just started a flood of searches for the video and the youtube algorithm probably listed that followers and subscribers would probably want to see it based on those new searches.
I love hearing OG RU-vid stories. I made Android iOS content in 2008 and everything was so new and setups were ghetto, I loved it. Even just figuring out editing tools was a huge deal back then
There is definitely a significant gun culture in America. But there are rules to how you handle guns. They can be fun, but they are tools NOT toys. And just like you don't recklessly "play" with a chainsaw, you keep your finger off the trigger unless you are absolutely certain you want to shoot at the target and you never let the tip of your gun point towards a living thing. Unless your hunting legally or in a legal self defense situation. "Keep your booger hook off the bang switch" It is so infuriating to see highly viewed channels or anyone not following those simple rules and especially when it leads to tragedy.
exactly. my dad owns a few guns because he deer hunts, so ever since i was in about late elementary school i’ve known how to shoot guns. the first rule he taught me though is that a gun is always loaded. doesn’t matter if the safety is on, doesn’t matter if there’s no bullets, you always handle a gun as if it’s loaded.
Gun safety is super critical for people, of course. Educating people on best practices is critical... for preventing accidents. There's a reason that even people who are generally pro firearm, like myself, still do push for more restrictions, especially for purchase and access. Being a well disciplined gun user is great, it keeps people safe, but that's completely divorced from your intent. If someone decides to do something heinous, their muzzle and trigger discipline ceases to be relevant, because the harm comes from intent and not negligence. Firearms education is critical, but still less important than making sure that they're in good hands first.
yeah you don't fucking let your kids play around with guns what the fuck was wrong with them, literally the first thing you teach your kids if they're around a gun is that they aren't toys meant to be played with
I find it strange that people are still being confused about how the algorithm on RU-vid works. You just need to look at comments to understand it. There are two things that are important to your recommendations: 1) Your watch history 2) The interaction rate If there is a video that just sat there for years, only slightly growing and for some reason gets shared somewhere, it will gain traction very fast. RU-vid's algorithm interpretes this as an umpcoming trend and then compares the watch history of those currently watching it with the watch history of other people and recommends it which increases the interaction rate again. Of course the video was probably shared in some kind of Gigguk or at least anime fandom so it is only natural after such a sudden "burst" that RU-vid recommends it to other people that watched Gigguk or anime. It's the same thing when people "discovered" that you can attract new viewers with Community Posts. People assumed this was due to certain words used, but that isn't the case. The point was that most RU-vidrs never cared much about the Community feature. They maybe linked a video/stream, but they didn't really interact with people since they did this over other platforms. Obviously, these posts never have a lot of traction. So if the same RU-vidr that has a following already and just didn't use it, suddenly makes a community post that is not only long with a story that people will comment on, BUT also features a poll, however dumb that may be, his interaction rate on Community Posts will be singificantly higher than any other post they've done before. Therefore, RU-vid thinks this is an important or a trending post and therefore recommends it to people that have similar watch histories. It's not rocket science. A lot of people just never bothered to think about the features that RU-vid gave them. Which is really sad considering that they have the opportunity to grow their channels easily due to their already existing following by just interacting with their viewers through these methods.

As a gun owning American who's been an otaku since before that term came to america, mr anime was one of the first anitubers I found and it shocked me when I read the article. I was in college at the time and I had started owning guns of my own. I had hoped what happened didn't stain the already odd reputation of gun owners and worse hoping people don't start associating murder with anime. There are many guntubers like Frontier Setter and DWAI that are obviously anime fans and have either references or just straight up anime shit in their videos
The reason why anime wasn't pushed as "murder breeder" like games is because merch from series like Pokémon gave a shit ton of cash to the right people.
It feels like the Chris Benoit of YT-US anime fandom history Edit: To put it simply: "We can remember and appreciate the wrestler/ youtuber for their work and contributions to the community. At the same time, never forgetting and condone them for the crimes they did."
Accurate. The anime community never mentions Mr. Anime and WWE will never mention Chris Benoit. Only difference is is that there is still a fanbase who loves Benoit for his work, me included.
Thank you for talking about this. I had a friend for about 6 years. Things started to go downhill though and I eventually broke up with him as a friend. Later when googling his name randomly I found out that he's been arrested for violent behavior in public. As a former friend I feel so disappointed and also betrayed in a way, as it was someone I used to trust.
This is super heavy and I appreciate you all being frank, especially Garnt. Hopefully continued dialogue can bring an end to some suffering. Big ups, we all need to participate in positivity and inspiring others.
I can totally understand how he understands because a favorite uncle of mine is in jail for attempted murder. It was so world shattering and just so crazy to think about. For weeks after I found out I would just space out and think “well that’s fucked”. Like you think that you know this person and they’re great, then they commit a horrible crime and your brain can’t stand the whiplash
I thought they were talking about a murder that happened next to where I live. Same state (Texas). As for the guns thing, it's really normal here (especially in Texas, I don't know if we fixed a loophole that allowed a 14-year-old to buy a gun). I could walk to a school, to a church, to a gun range, and back home at some points in my life. This is rich, suburban, north Texas by the way. I was out of the social loop for everything and it was still hard not to hear who's dead because the picked up one of the family firearms and killed themselves. My little brother lost one of his close friends that way. I had to beg my parents not to buy a firearm because I was afraid of my manic lows (Bipolar disorder).
Yeah I thought it was a murder that happened next door to me too, but that was just the little brother who died, I remember my mom brought the family over a casserole to help them out.
I just don’t really understand how anyone stays safe in that kind of environment where guns are so casual. Anyone whose family owned guns could go on a rampage the same exact way mr anime did
@@anthonyrusso3100 well you see when everyone has a gun that just doesn’t happen often because people are on equal footing so anyone who shoots someone is probably going to get shot Also the same thing is true for knives there just as damaging and arguably easy to use plus there not loud as balls
i mean, he was probably upset over the way they treated/outcasted him or some stupid shit like that, which makes sense because you gotta remember he was an outspoken weeb in 2006, and that's like, not at all like today lol, nowadays it's kinda ok, somewhat accepted, like, to other kids, you're just a cringe nerd or whatever nowadays, but back then.....whew lad, if you were a weeb back in 2006, you were considered like the biggest loser of all time to everyone and you were publically shunned for just existing lol.
I feel like the youtube algorithm has decided to take a walk down the memory lane for the last couple of weeks, I keep getting recommended all sorts of old memes and weird, few-second videos. Like there literally were only 3-8 second clips in my recommended a few days ago.
I just got recommended this video right after hearing the news about Act Age's author. And it just really sucks how we pretty much know nothing about how the people we admire actually are in real life.
OMG, Hardy is my cousin. I still remember his RU-vid channel. He started it while he was studying in Perth then stopped shortly after he came back to Brunei. Good guy. He's made 2 novels that you can buy on Amazon(if I am not mistaken).
Garnt's review of this entire ordeal about this being a small, close community where nothing happens just makes me think: "Is he describing an actual murder or Monster?"
He actually was dating someone in high school, and she described it as very abusive and cruel. And it was clear to her that something wasn't right with him.
I am from Brasil, and I can assure you that we also think that about americans. I believe is common sense that in some places in the country is really normal to have a gun collection, so I also see it as normal.
What about first generation Americans(ones whose parents left their home country to US for better opportunities and kids are born in US rather than parents country). Do you assume those to stereotypes for them as well?
@@zippyzap1354 I am not them but in my opinion most of brazilians think of american as white people since that's what we see on the Television. So maybe people don't expand that thought to immigrants (non-white ones) but I am not sure
I cannot believe that nobody picked up on the fact that they were literally talking about part 4 of Jojos with a murderer in a small town (with their small community metaphor)
Imagine that there’s a dimension where Mr.Anime had never murdered... and was still in the anime community... there must be a different dimension. Prolly another dimension where he had successfully taken the lives of about 70 victims.
