"Replaying that fear would only make it stronger" wow. That really hits home for me. I think I can use that as a tool!

OCD is a real thing man . When i do something important and has consequences the obsessions and the doubts and the urge to do compulsions become unimaginably strong for example yesterday i was studying for an exam and then the frightening what ifs were unleashed it started with what if you just stop studying then i felt great anxiety and the need to problem solve in order to reassure myself. Without all the kind and knowledgeable ocd specialists such as nathan ocd will debilitate us

I have noticed that there are so many subconscious and automattic compulsions that happen in my brain after a scary thought comes to my mind and the problem is that most of the time i am busy with someone else and i am not aware of these faulty responses. The most common response is to ignore and not pay attention to it after that i may try to figure out more information about it and sometimes i will repeat this reassuring information several times but in the extreme side which is thankfully is not often is that i will try to problem solve it even if i know it's a silly thing but the anxiety at this point is so high it's like i am controlled by ocd here and will analyze and put plans and check on them to avoid this scary scenario from happening .

My ocd is always about getting myself embarrassed some or the other way, I have self acceptance but sometimes I just cannot control my intrusive thoughts. I think like, okay so what I did back then was the best I could and nothing is that I would likely remember because not all the moments are registered by our brains, little did I know, this actually helps and the rest I leave upto the exposure of my fears part, Nathan has encouraged me a lot and therefore small steps every day :)

I’m afraid of flying. The last time I flew I had a panic attack and when I landed in the layover city I literally knelt on the floor and couldn’t stand for at least 10 minutes. I didn’t get on the connecting flight. I rented a car drove 7 seven hours back home. That was 10 years ago. I have a family trip this Saturday and I’m flying. My OCD is off the charts right now. I just keep imagining the worst scenario. I regret not getting on that connecting flight. I missed out on a great experience. When I booked the trip months ago it was so far ahead I wasn’t worried. Of course now, only days away, I’m beyond OCDeep.

Here are a few ideas that may help calm your fears. Watch videos about overcoming the fear of flying. Everyday imagine yourself peacefully sitting on the plane while in flight. Listen to music. Slowly look at a magazine. Talk to the person next to u to help take your focus off the flight. Pray. 2-4 wks before your flight tell yourself everything will be fine. Exercise and meditate 2wks before your flight to help calm your nerves. Focus your mind on exciting things you'll experience once u land. Lastly, while outdoors when u see planes fly by, tell yourself "I can do that. I can fly comfortably on a plane." Remember the fear is in your mind. You have to train your mind to believe u can do it.

I have OCD with ruminating my past mistakes over and over, the IF ONLY, THE SHOULD HAVE, THE SHOULDN’T HAVES, THE WHY DID I DO THAT, especially at 4am when I’m so tired and want to go back to sleep but the ruminating creeps in every single morning, I only recently learned that it’s classed as OCD,

My greatest fear and OCD-focus is losing my parents and also my cat. It started from prolonged trauma at age 4, and has been re-triggered several times by ACTUAL threats / realities in which I had to live in a state of chronic hyper-vigilance to keep my cat alive, and as my parents get older (they're 75 and 77), my fear grows stronger. My constantly perceived threat / fear has turned into reality many times in the past, and will at some stage again. 😢

Hey Nathan, can I ask a question? Is playing out feared scenarios in my head just to check my reaction to them considered a compulsion? Would really help to know, love your videos, you're the best! :)
@3cheeseup
@3cheeseup 2 месяца назад
Playing out scenarios sounds like your brain is unable to live with uncertainty and in turn tries to play out all the possible scenarios to gain some certainty. Try to catch them with mindfulness and embrace uncertainty by identifying them as OCD thoughts: “Maybe / maybe not” - just my two cents.

My compulsions and fears are often related to: Eternity, permanence, change, freewill, internet and most importantly the fear of losing something. I don't even know what that thing is. What is it that I am actually trying to protect?

I ruminate about what could happen if I taper down on my medication. I don't want to go to that same scary place I've been to. I'm trying to be curious about it- and be willing to adjust it back up if needed.
