The Arcade Racing Series We Want Back 

Bro this is why it's important to keep legacy consoles because this generation of consoles simply won't bring most of these franchises back. We just gotta let the good times roll

There’s one thing that I noticed about PGR vs FH: scale. FH’s maps are supposed to be open, and yet their maps feel very squashed post 2. On the other hand, PGR’s maps are closed, and yet they nailed scale so well! I’d always remember that feeling of awe when I first raced on Brooklyn Bridge. It was awe inspiring. I also loved how bridges, buildings, and landmarks felt properly sheer. That’s a feeling FH hasn’t ever managed to capture imo, and it’s been getting worse since 3 because PG insisted that we *need* to be able to drive everywhere. Consequently, everything felt flat. Bloat indeed happened. Jake here highlighted why car lists *could* get too big. Past a certain point, adding cars would result in diminishing returns. Individual cars become insignificant, that’s one. And there’s no focus. But I’d also posit that map design and philosophy could also get bloated and therefore unfocused. Both aren’t good. It’s a bit ironic that the supposedly less realistic PGR immersed me way better than the more realistic FH! If I could choose, I’d choose PGR.

One shout would be a Split Second sequel. That series deserved so much better. I've said relatively similar before but I would also love another Crash N Burn styled game, doesn't need to be the same name but there is so much potential to improve on it and have thrilling races in not just single player but cross-play mulitplayer.

The bikes in motorstorm were always so awesome to drive. You're so light, so zippy and so maneuverable, but any other vehicle can wreck you with the slightest nudge.

I would give my left leg for a Midnight Club release. Midnight Club 2 is one of the most pivotal racing games ever. It was the first game to truly nail both the specific early 2000's neo-futurism aesthetic of it's time, and introduce us to the world of dangerous street racing like never before. Los Angeles from MC2 is one of my favorite maps in any game, it's so iconic. Plus, the game itsself was amazing. It had a hectic blend of 1's driving style with a newfound sense of speed, and it felt like you were driving a remote controlled car with rockets strapped to the back. Plus the music was iconic. Singlehandedly the game that got me into stuff like Felix da Housecat, and Misstress Barbara. Midnight Club 3 did nearly everything better. Cars handled a lot heavier, there were licensed vehicles, an even better soundtrack, and so much more to do. I find myself hard pressed to think of any racing game at all that was as fun and kickass as MC3 Remix. NFSMW sure, but NFS and MC were always yin and yang in those days. It's like choosing between the PS3 and the Xbox 360, it doesn't really matter. Plus it had the best main menu of any game ever. The driving just felt perfect, and the maps felt like they were created around what the cars could do. As soon as you commit gravity and slam your thumb into the X button, you get a pretty good indication of just where the labor and focus went- the speed. Even your first vehicle can hit a hundred miles an hour with ease, and usually within the span of two seconds. The cars in this game handle less like the weighty, grippy scrap heaps of Need for Speed and more like being strapped to a giant bottle rocket on wheels, but with a handbrake. Straight lines? What are those?

We definetely need a new Midnight Club now that Need For Speed is inconsistent.

Blur was actually one of the underrated arcade racers ever made. So sad it was the last game of Bizzare Creations before they shut down by Activision.

I was devastated when I bought dangerous driving, burnout is very close to my heart, as I grew with this series, full auto as well, we need these games BACK, why would it be so hard to remake these? It wouldn't! And they would turn a HUGE profit. It's a no Brainerd yet they continuously show they have none. Great video.

I kinda want the Tokyo Extreme Racer (and that includes TXR Drift) series to come back. It was so unique from the rest and the car selection was also intriguing.

Full Auto 2 was one of my absolute favorite games growing up. It’s baffling to me that we never got another one in the series, nor any similar game from another developer. Who doesn’t want to stick weapons on cars and then just blow shit up?

I just really like MS:A, it's everything i love combined: stylish vehicles, music which mixes orchestra and DnB, and absolutely amazing feature of changing the map as race progresses(like for real, it's a lot more fun to drive 4 similar laps with their own quirks than to just race 4 identical laps). I really wish someone made a rally game with same mechanic, where it's only you, some calamity which chases you and distorting road. That would be plain epic.

I miss Juiced

Arcade racers have always been far more enjoyable for me than simcades / simulators. Their intense absurdity is just very engaging. Motorstorm is certainly a series I'd like to experience. When I learned of Apocalypse, it made me think of the movie 2012, which is one of my favourites. So to have such an unforgiving racer take place in tracks that progressively fall apart felt like it was ideal for me.

I don't necessarily want to just bring back old games, I just want more new arcade racing games in general

burnout, midnight club, ridge racer, rage racer, tokyo zero, pgr, twisted metal and more need a comeback, i wouldn't mind having outrun and some games like that make a return

A ridge racer sequel felt like a pipe dream at this point. With the cancellation of a possible Ridge Racer 8 (planned as Switch exclusive), it felt like a slap in the face. Other than the discussed games in this video, i would really like it if there’s a sequel or at least a spiritual successor/attempt for Juiced 3. Also i really agree about closed tracks which provides a sense of “world tour” on multiple different locations. That felt really alive than just 1 city/district for free roam. Burnout Revenge really nailed lots of aspects discussed in this video, and it is also my favorite burnout too.

Modern Arcade games are about jus customization and driving. There won't be any 3A Arcade racers like NFS HP, Rivals, BO Paradise, Blur anymore. Only close thing we have to those nowadays is the Asphalt series.

PGR and Midnight Club are the two arcade racing series I want back, absolutely legendary series.

Do you plan on making a retrospective video about the Carmageddon series ? Or even the Ford Racing series, at a time where car manufacturers were promoting their models through video games.

Just a quick heads up! L.A. Rush is finally playable without graphical glitches on the latest PCSX2 nightly dev build. Just make sure you enable the Anti-Blur option, turn off the Dithering and turn off the HW hacks to avoid the glitches and get better visuals. Also, Vulkan works just fine for me. I know it's kinda random and all. But, since you really like the game, I thought I'd go ahead and let you know.

I desperately wish for Burnout to return, but I think the series peaked for good with its third entry, not counting spin-offs.

Racing games such as Blur and Split Second have potential and even had a sequel in development. Sucks the studios that made those 2 are gone.

I want all of these games to come back, especially Ridge Racer 8. There was a rumor for it being in development for the Switch that was cancelled later on. Seeing as RR6 became backwards compatible and RRs2 being on PS+, as well as the Klonoa and Pac-Man World remakes we have gotten, it does seem like we could have a Ridge Racer remake sometime. I'll be totally okay with that if it happens!

Personally, I would love to see a sequel to Fuel. Now that Asobo studios is part of Microsoft since Flight Simulator, they could make a great open world game experience with the Azure servers. Fuel had a unique atmosphere to it. It wasn’t only about racing, but also contemplation.

The racing game industry is in a bit of a corner at the moment. The current trend is, if the game is not a simracer, to have these faux-massively multiplayer online experiences and you just can't have that in a track-based arcade racer. So, companies are more attracted to open world arcade racers. But then you lose out on the great track design track racers can have. On top of that, when there is such a focus on off-road with there pretty much being no walls and every car being able to go anywhere, the tarmac racing experience suffers. Cutting corners and beelining becomes the name of the game. Don't get me wrong, I like an open-world racer. But there are just too many. With the Crew Motorfest and TDU Solar Crown coming this year I just don't particularly have the motivation to try them

1:45 not really, just recently Payback surpasses Heat's all time player peak on Steam, which means EA still saw some profitability on the series, although your argument still stands considering NFS was nowadays put in the backseat in favor to the F1 games

I'm actually working on and off on a spiritual successor to Split Second, hopefully mixed with a pinch of MotorStorm. Because I do miss arcade racers and these were the ones I enjoyed the most. Got a seperate channel for it, but it is still a long way of, since I'm working on my own and sometimes private life takes over.

Project Gotham Racing is without a doubt the best, and I mean the only best arcade racer in my book, while It has a fare share of problems for people to care and..don’t care, it doesn’t make a difference to me because this amazing series is what relief’s me from my declining mental health.
