I listen to these breakdowns to get me hyped up for fight week and all these "experts" were just talking delusional nonsense about Jon Jones to justify their pick without giving any legit reasoning (which exists) felt like I was listening to casual fans drunk explaining why Jones will win at a bar.

All these people making excuses for Bones poor performance in his last few fights are 1) doing a disservice to Jones because they're implying that he doesn't actually care about his legacy 2) a disservice to his opponents who put on stellar performances against Bones, and 3) are mythologizing Bones and making him out to be a magical unicorn. Remember folks, Rousey and Mcgregor were undefeated until they eventually were, and Jones is far from invincible.

Jon Jones was obviously more motivated to put his better performances in Cormier 2 and Gustafson 2, to say otherwise is just stupid. Jon Jones has a proven record that he performs a lot better with a big chip on his shoulder, and to not factor that into the contest is wrong. Derrick Lewis, Tai Tuivasa, Cain Valesquez, Curtis Blaydes, Miocic (when bulked), Daniel Cormier (who Jones beat twice) are all much fatter or similar built heavyweights (in case of Blades, Miocic) whose skillsets are worse than Jones', yet they don't get called out for not being "natural heavyweights". Jon Jones used to cut somewhere from 225-235 (Miocic used to fight a lot in the mid 230s) to 205, to expect that a man in his mid 30s (if done naturally) can bulk up to 250 in three years and still have abs or a similarly defined physique as he had at 205 is dumb. As most males tend to store lot of their fat into the belly. And one of your main arguments to why you are surer in picking Gane is because of Jones' "belly". And to imply that Jones is "naturally skinny" is also stupid because his prior natural walkaround weight was similar to the weight Stipe fought at. Although it can be the case that Jones' bulked too much, we just have to wait and see, because there were fighters that bulked a lot and did really good at HW. Gastelum went down to the wire with Adesanya and put the toughest battle to Adesanya prior to Perreira, dropping him in one of the rounds and inflicting a lot of heavy damage. Gastelum went 1-4 and Adesanya went to defend the title 6 times after their match. Its safe to say that Gastelum had a performance of his lifetime in that fight, as did in my opinion Reyes vs. Jones. There are examples of a lot more fighters that had career defining performances and then had a fast and devastating decline afterwards (Garbrandt, Hendrix, Till, Woodley etc). As there are a lot of examples of fighters that had tumultuous careers and devastating loses and then went on to turn their careers around such as Blachowicz,Oliveira ,Texeira (who you picked vs Hill after he had the most taxing battle of his life vs Jiri at 42 years of age, 7 years after his 50-45 loss to Jones) This proves that there are obvious examples to why recent performances can be often deceiving when predicting someones future outcomes in fights. It shows that prior proven record of performing great under big pressure can also factor in a lot (especially in Jones who is arguably the goat and not just some rando that did good in a couple tough matchups). Fat on belly doesn't necessarily mean a its a bad thing. And it also arguably proves that you and Hardy are two Interweb lover faggots that like to edge each other via "fight breakdown critiques"

if you don't understand that fighters that are on the top can become demotivated defending their belt after so long, then idk what to say. it is a pretty well discussed thing among champions. not just in fighting, but in all sports. thats why its so hard to stay on top, bc you get too comfortable

I think any version if Jones looses to Gane. Striking wise idk how anyone thinks Jones wins. Jones is only good against slow fighters who fights in the front foot who r not as tall as Jones. This is because Jones has to use his kicks to break them down & range to not let their game-plan off. Machida is Jones quickest & most athletic opponent & striker Jones has faces (before Gane) & Machida gave Jones soo much trouble. Guftason & Ryes r all tall & quick strikers which take a lot of Jones attack & defence away hence y they did very well. Santos is the primary example of y Jones can’t fight as a pressure fighter, because Jones uses his kicks & range to break them down & beat them but that works when they move into the strikes but when someone’s quick to by pass that or fights well off the back foot, Jones has a ton of trouble & Santos who isn’t the best on the front foot took a lot of Jones attack away from him. Also Guftason did well because he has quick hands & movement & Jones doesn’t have great boxing. Gane is super quick, jones quickest opponent (besides machida), the best mover Jones has fought, most athletic (besides machida), is the most evasive Jones has fought (Gane has literally never been hit clean in the head in his life), has amazing kicking, boxing & striking all around, & also the greatest outfighter (fights on the back foot) jones has fought by a mile. Wrestling wise, Jones is super overrated. He has only gotten TD from people from the clinch or from the cage. Gane I know is good enough to not get taken down from the clinch because he’s extremely good on the clinch, also Gane is too athletic to get taken down from the centre of the change nor has it ever worked for Jones, Gane we know won’t get trapped on the fence, & if Jones catches a leg I think Gane great balance & athleticism will get him out of there. If Jones was to get him down, I think Gane can scramble out of there. That’s is what I believe if Prime Jones faced Gane. What makes this even worse for Jones is he fat now, he’s 36, inactive for 3 years, should have lose his last 2 fights & hasn’t gotten a TD since Smith in 2019 of 4 years ago. Gane I think smokes Jones & wins by unanimous decision 50-45 or 50-44. I think Jones will rush in & maybe catch a check hook or a knee or/& Jones might throw a flying knee & get dropped by a check hook. I see Jones getting pieced up the entire fight.

For me is this, jones weighs 265 now, if he comes in with mindset to give proper beat down to gane without being afraid of testing power , if he is confident in his chin and goes there to fight like he is equal to heavyweights he definitely got good chance, if hes still trying to understand how he is at heavyweight its not good for him
