Thanks Chris, some great tips! Several years ago my wife bought me a ride in a Pitts in SoCal and over the ocean The pilot showed me how to do loops, rolls, and a couple of hammerhead stalls using smoke. Wish it had been virtual smoke though; when that stuff comes into the canopy it’s not pleasant. 😂

Finally, I have found an aviation RU-vidr who really knows what he is talking about. Thanks for the effort! I hope much more people join your channel and maybe at some point this leads to an improvement in the msfs flight model regarding rudder authority and stall / spin / flick maneuvers.
@cgaviator

Thanks! As an addendum to this, apparently developers should use the CFD model but that shouldn’t mean they cant adjust rudder authority when using the default flight models.

The PC21 is a frequent visitor to my RL airport. Another friend ( a glider pilot of my club) and that's an aeronautical engineer worked for several years by Pilatus at the realization of the real PC21 flight simulator. I was surpraised to descover that the cost of a single PC21 simulator is not much lower than that of the real aircraft!
@cgaviator

Yeah, not surprising, especially if it comes with building etc. Those sims have to perfectly replicate every response of the real aircraft. No easy feat

@cgaviator
@cgaviator Год назад

@speedbird300
@speedbird300 Год назад
Nicely flown, especially like the barrel roll. For the loop, I think it's a bit pinched, maybe less pull between about 11 o'clock and 2 o'clock to get more rounded. Stall turn: notwithstanding the model problems, should be able to go true vertical +/- lift displacement, as you're slowing you should need some aileron to counteract increased torque impact, at whatever is the slowest speed that works (30-60kts? Not zero) power idle (to minimise torque/gyro problems), full rudder, some aileron maybe elevator to counter torque/gyro, stop rotation with rudder as hit vertical down, power back up and Bob's your uncle.
@cgaviator
@cgaviator Год назад
Yeah, I got a good stall turn in my previous PC21 video. Like I mentioned, there’s no real rudder effect and at zero speed the other controls have no effect either. But yes, I should be able to get a good vertical! 😅

What are your thoughts on the flight model? I've never flown a fast jet before so I have no real idea of what to expecft. But I do find, coming from DCS, the flight models in MSFS seem twitchy, maybe TOO responsive. I enjoy flying the M-346 and I'm about to run over to IRIS and buy this PC-21, but I'm expecting the FM to be sub-par compared to DCS. I'm actually tempted to buy the 339 for both sims to compare, but I'm not a rich man 😆 Thank you for these videos!
@cgaviator
@cgaviator Год назад
I was going to do a comparison between the two MB339 out of interest. MSFS definitely too twitchy and inaccurate close to the stall. But ‘fun’ overall. DCS can be the other way, particularly with the 339.

Make sure in INST page (right MFD) you have ESG fitted, not the fuel tanks. May require you emptying fuel in the fuel page. Then make sure smoke switch is on. Then keybind smoke on and off (can’t remember which it is now but manual should say. Hope that helps. Also, you may want to remove any random freeware aircraft you have installed as there’s a small chance they could conflict.

The visuals of MSFS 2020 are really good, however Xplane12 is more fun to fly because of the view system it has. It's not so rigid as the MSFS views system. I have not tried aerobatics in MSFS yet, I think I need to compare the two sims in this regard fully. My guess is that xplane12 might offer a more rewarding experience because of the flight model differences and the view system. As usual this was a very entertaining, interesting and educational video. Thank you.

First of all, you shouldn't be roasting Asobo for something they didn't do. It's a third party plane, after all. It's the flow from the propeller that makes the thing go 180° during the zero-G phase, and yet you close the throttle...
