From 1987 to 2020, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is perhaps one of the most notable long-running 80's manga besides Berserk - so let's take a look at how far it's come from an artistic perspective! Patreon - / alexenterprises
dont worry then next chapter of jojolion will have way more lore and potentially stay haveing more lore and we hopefully wil get the news that all parts will eventually be animated and hopefully again if they get animated hopefully its wayy more tripper than before
you're next words... i very much know them this is what you'll say Nani Joseph Joestar is here, JoJo will one day have its own fashion Brand i think but you must be right!
Thank you a lot for your work, it helped me a lot with my school project. And can I translate it into russian and write an article for Russian jojo fans with mentioning you as the author and giving a link for this video?
Part7 marks the point where Jojo went from the weekly Shonenjump to the monthly Ultrajump, suddenly Araki had more time to work on the series chapter to chapter and it shows. The art style, pacing, and story all became more refined. Imo this is what led to Jojo part7 being the considered a masterpiece.
I feel Araki really opened my mind to male sexuality. His outfits, to me showcases strength and confidence and for the first time I really considered the Male body beautiful. Emotionally I feel here in America, that the woman are the pretty ones and we men just have to get work done, like a part of our identity is shut off from the start. So much respect to Araki to be so unique and confident and to bring his stories and world view to life.
Nah I thought it was kinda cool but it was super unrealistic and felt pretty forced to make them look strong even when they had no need for it. They have stands for a reason they don’t need to physically fight people lol. Plus some of the characters in the newer parts are actually pretty jacked it’s just that it’s not very noticeable compared to parts 1-3
@@bolson42 and again, we can take a conclusion that you cant compare jojo's world with Real world. It's completely different. You will not see everyone speaking Japanese in Egypt, America or even Italy. Im ok with every art style. It's a development right? For me Part 1-3 are the most "normal" one, although i knew every adult men shouldn't have a big giant muscles. But yeah part 1 - 3 has the most normal looks and clothings. Part 4 - 5 have the most "proportioned" character with weird clothes although there are some of the most stupid character design in part 5, you can see a corn guy with a fishing rod or an over big chonky piece of shit like polpo which no one even know is he even a human and no one in the series are asking or wondering about it. Part 6 - 8 are kinda messed up, eeeee you know the reason, you have read it right or you haven't dont you
@Black_Rhino 241 well at least Giorno is only 15 so he's got a few more centimeters at least. Considering both his fathers were both over 6 feet and all
@@johnnyjoestar9569 IIRC it's never stated in the manga but I believe I read Araik saying somewhere that he was something like 162 or 164cm. So about 5'3 to 5'4
I like to think Araki is more of an artist rather than a writer. Obviously his writing is still incredible but his art is perhaps some of the best to come out of the 80s. Araki's sense for fashion and colors is truly one of a kind.
Exactly, I think jojo will always be remembered for its eccentric, distinct art and then its crazy, humorous and quirky storyline. People either love or hate the jojo art, but regardless there's no denying the absolute originality and intellectualism displayed
@@hollyg022 That's what made me start getting into JoJo. It's just so unique. There is quite literally nothing else like it. I've even gotten people who thought it was just gay and boring to watch it and they loved it. People give it a bad wrap.
@@brandonfleming7118 one of the reasons why I watched jojo is because it looked gay as frick. I thought it'd be a good laugh and I wasn't wrong and I don't regret watching it. I love jojo and i cant wait to see the ways the art will change in the next manga/anime part even if it does make the show look like gay strippers
Same, especially the evolution in part 7. Part 6 was like the perfection of the style Araki was trying out in late part 4 and part 5, while part 7 was a rebirth
Tbh i like part 4's artstyle the most cause it has balance between being buff and being skinny, i just cant handle seeing parts 1 - 3's characters being so skinny it just disturbs me
6:23 NO. YOU CAN'T JUST PASS THAT BY ME AND EXPECT ME TO DO NOTHING. I *DEMAND* YOU SHOW US WHERE TO SEE THE FULL CLIP. MASTER ARAKI DANCING IS ALL I NEED IN MY LIFE. _PLEASE_
The entire JoJo manga is undoubtably my favorite work of fiction of all time, for the art, weirdness, characters, humor, themes, and just everything else. It even inspired me to start drawing more and make my own comics. The anime is only up to part 5 rn, so I can't say the same, but I like it about as much as Hunter x Hunter 2011 and that's some rather high praise.
One thing I hate about most people perception about JoJo is that they think JJBA is just a memey franchise with no story value at all when in reality it has a rich story often underrated by those people
Araki is easily one of the most artistic, amazing mangakas. He truly puts both his spirit and heart into everything he does, and the fact that he’s evolved throughout the age has really shown that he is just an amazing person. I will always love Arakis way of doing things, from his art to his story writing.
You just explained why I love JoJolion perfectly. I’ve tried to explain to people why it’s one of my favorite parts but your description of it completely captures what makes JoJolion great. You’ve just earned a subscriber my friend
Araki inspired me a lot as a young artist who was doubting my art skills, i suddenly gained so much confidence and I'm now able to step out of my comfort zone and try new styles without being scared to fail. I really look up to him as an artist AND as a person!
My man is in the best physical condition I've ever seen for someone who's in his early 60's. He clearly looks after his health so I don't think there's anything to worry about.
Absolutely loved this video, it helped my girlfriend understand why I love the series so much, and makes her want to read/watch it all now too. Thanks for making it!
I loved stardust crusaders art style because it fit so well with the vibe and story. I was a bit taken back when I watched part 4 and beyond, but I’ve grown to really love it. It fits the story and characters much better. I couldn’t imagine Giorno looking like Jotaro lol
I love the modern art style of Jojo series, especially part 7 and 8. It's just so artistic and beautiful. And that's probably why Jojo got a collaboration with a lots of fashion related brands.
part 4 is kind of my favorite for the reasons u used in this: it REALLY feels like he's coming into himself in this one and just having a great time. you can tell how much he loves this part (and more specifically the characters- or A character in it ahaha) because of how many times he's gone back to it in spinoffs and art stuff
A big part of that I feel is because he is an eccentric man who started his career in the 80s, he's old (even if he doesn't look like it) and probably doesn't get why new audiences like that style so he's just out here doing his own thing.
araki also has an insane knowledge in real life fashion lines back in the 1980’s, cant tell me thats not what lead him to literally collabing with *Gucci*
I love Arakis style so much. It's so beautiful but also has a sort of surreal?? feel to it with the combination of empty backgrounds and unnatural colour choices in some of his pieces
The video is done really well and I love the fact how you emphasized on Araki's style in part 5. The only thing which is a bit annyoing is the fact that you didn't mention how Araki named characters after designer brands in part 6 - Hermes, Emporio, Anasui Narcisso -(reference to 2 designers), Pucci, Miu Miu (Miuccia Miuller), D and G, Donatello Versus(he's obviously named after Donatella Versace), Guccio, Gwess(Guess), Viviano Westwood (Vivienne Westwood) and etc.
Despite same face syndrome occurring in part 8 it is by far the most beautiful and detailed of all the other parts. IMO it out does 7. Every large panel is just beautiful and so pleasing to look it. Not to mention how clean everything is. Part 7 and 8 is the best Araki’s artwork has ever been. Although I will forever have a soft spot for the big muscular style of earlier parts.
JoJo really brings the visual in story telling. The story is good but I will remember it for its flamboyant unbridled beautiful elegant masculinity i couldnt see in any other anime or comic. I will forever love jojo for its amazing fashion, poses, and colors.
It's also important to mention that Araki references a lot of classical art - especially for poses. Once I learned that, a lot of the posing actually made more sense. While it's not realistic, it's not meant to be. It's literally a stylistic choice and we sometimes forget that this is art first.
It's also important to acknowledge the mistakes he made in this video but you didn't notice cause like all the other mindless zombies watching him you're too stupid
What i also love about jojos bizzare Adventure is that everytime you run out of good music Araki comes around and shows me new ones in form of his very creative Stands and his taste in music never fails. Also its very motivating, while before i often had Problems getting Inspiration for my own Drawings im now trying to draw unique Stands after music myself, at the Moment im creating a custom Stand based on Queens "One Vision"
You pointing out that Jojolion has all the same lifeless expressions to make them look gorgeous is probably why it feels to me like the most beautiful and deep part of the series and makes his writing more impactful.
This is such a relaxing, beautifully narrated video. I love all of JoJo's, and especially the changes in Araki's style, but what really sticks out to me with this one is your calm voice and how passionate you explain the matter! Cheers mate, you did such an amazing job!
Great video! There's really nothing like Jojo's art - in any period. The sheer scope of the designs (barring the brief "same-face" period) is one of the many reasons the series is so special and lasts in the zeitgeist.
What’s going to be interesting is when the English hardcover release of the manga catches up to part 9 in the coming years. That just means English physical readers will be relatively current. Can’t wait for it!
I’m loving these art analysis you’ve been making. It’s cool to see your understanding of how styles reflect ideas in the story. I don’t know too much about Jojo outside of the anime so this is interesting stuff
It's crazy that, if you read Cool Shock BT, Poker Under Arms and Gorgerous Irene, he evolved from "that" to the current Jojo we have now. Especially Cool Shock BT.
This is going to be a video I come back to time and time again. As of commenting, this might be my 5th time watching. It's just so well made. Succinct, even for a 7 minute video. You pull the most important weeds out from the history books, and expand ever so slightly such that every part gets their time to shine. I may even still watch this after part 9 is long done publishing. You've done a great job summarizing the evolution of jojo from part 1 to part 8, and I look forward to see how Araki's art evolves even moreso during part 9's publication.
Ok that was a very nice video keep it up my man!😊so the jojo’s art was for me very refreshing to see from part 1 cause before I heard of jojo’s I was getting bored of the usual mainstream anime/manga art style so I got into jojo’s very quickly & was in love with it. It also got me into more manga with buff manly men like FOTNS, Toriko, Kinnikuman & others, it also got me to dive dipper into older manga from the 60’s-80’s & more different art styles. So I love the art of parts 1-6 of jojo the most imo part 7’s art is still good & got very detailed which I loved however part 8’s art my lest favourite cause the expressions on the faces stated lacking for me & they started looking the same. it’s not bad though it’s jest not my favourite out his art, which is why I will always say his art changes not improvs IMO but I still love Araki & his art/work❤️🤘
Wanted to say I very much like what you’re doing here! I love good breakdowns or studies of stuff especially art! So excellent work you put in thank you! (But I might have to check back some point when it gets to spoilers I’ve only seen up to part 5 anime unfortunately... 😅😢)
i love jojo's art style all through part 1-8 and i love how it changes in every part. me personally, i love looking at fanarts made by other people of any fandom because everyone has a unique style of drawing and this is what made me love jojo, compared to other animes/mangas, even more because the art style constantly changes and, for me, it's really satisfying to see it change
I like how the anime kinda follows along with the manga. part 1 has more smooth cheeks like how it was in the manga. While in part 3, the crusaders are so angular and look so detailed. And part 4... well part 4 has its own art style (Part 4 is one of my favorite parts don’t worry)
I think Jojolion has the best quality artwork, like you can see how he’s really gotten better as an artist, but the characters lack expressions! That’s why I like parts four and five best. It’s a good mix of technical skill and expressiveness.
there are definitely still a lot of different expressions in jojolion, its just that araki doesnt exactly show that often in his exhibition pieces for the part or volume covers
0. I don't mean to criticize your work, it's great what your doing, I am really attracted to artwork analysis and evolution of artists. I just think you missed a few points. 1. The ova back in 90s (and the ps1 based on it) was a perfect portrait of the the manga in terms of aesthetics or in your words fashion and style 2. I wouldn't call it a sense of fashion and style, I would prefer to say that's an almost ridiculous intentional exagerating of posing, clothing and we can't close our eyes for the fact all those style are definitely what regular people would see as gay and drag (and I am pretty positive the author is aware of that, which is one of the series trade marks, that makes it standout from everything there is, and what makes it fun). The series transitions (intentionally) from cool to hilarious all the time and it's noticeable not only in the aesthetics but also in the writing. The plots are as bizarre as the visual, the story is crazy and the twists come out of nowhere and are completely (intentionally) nonsense PS: I'd like to correct you when you kind of say the ova stayed on obscurity for being bad. This is completely wrong, it's the same as saying the "invincible" comic book was way less successful than the cartoon because it's worse. No. It's all about timing. Edit: I forgot to say another thing that bothered me in your text is that you talk about his so called sense of style as if it was something rare in manga. I would say style is on of the things that standout mangaka from regular comicbook artists. Yuyu Hakusho artworks inbetween the chapters of the manga were just beautiful and the attention he would put into the clothing (fashion), hair, posing and the composition as a whole were outstanding
I can't wait to watch all of Stone Ocean, but I'm weary of how part 7 and 8 will actually look in animated form, since it's harder to differentiate between similar characters when animated. Crossing my fingers and hoping for the best!
While watching the anime, part 4 is where I really started to notice the clothing/color schemes. I loved the subtle change in emblems Josuke/Jotaro wear, and especially Rohan's fashion really stood out to me. Rohan was probably the turning point where I started actively looking at those subtle changes and appreciating the amount of work that went into these details.
Didnt like the style change at part 5 at first but dear lord did it grow on me FAST. All the later parts aswell its all so fabulous! The designs are one of my favorite in all of anime and manga
