I can say that Jotaro is understandable though. His first impression is terrible, his first fights almost always end the same way (ORA ORA ORA) and the build up usually feels pretty lackluster. The fight with Dio in general, and the fact that he's stupidly good at everything, and never fails or has any emotional moments (unlike Jonathon with Bruford, or Joseph with Wamuu). He does improve going into Diamond is unbreakable but that first impression really hurts him.
31Tancos Tracey I felt the same way at first, though I felt it got better and better as the series went on with him. I do kinda have a problem with Giorno though, he’s literally an even more lackluster Jotaro, got like zero character development throughout the story, not to say that he is a bad character (I do still like him), but I felt the rest of the gang was FAR more interesting than Giorno. I liked Bruno infinitely times more than I liked Giorno. I’m only on Part 6 so I don’t really know a lot about Johnny, so idk.
Yes, I do understand that Jotaro improves over Stardust Crusaders but my point still stands. His stardust crusaders fights feel lazy. Beating justice by breathing it in? Jotaro only won because Star Platinum is overpowered, and then he punches someone again for the 10th time. With Joseph, he beat Santana by forcing him into sunlight, he beat Esidisi using string, he beat Wammu by shooting his crossbow "strategically" and using oil while Wamuu used his final attack, and he beat Kars with sheer dumb luck. Not one of those fights concluded the same way, but every fight with Jotaro, while not identical, does feel repetitive when he punches someone, and says yare yare daze like its supposed to be funny. That emotional moment you mentioned where he got angry? That was the ONLY time, and it just doesn't feel as good as Jonathon bonding with Bruford, or Joseph mourning Ceaser. While Jonathon got angry too, Jotaro got pissed: I'm not sure how to explain my opinion on this, but when Jotaro does it it doesn't feel the same way.
@@giorno9526 also "you may have outsmarted me,but i outsmarted your outsmarting","NIGERUNDAYOOO SMOKEEEY" and "NIGERUNDAYOOOO" (running away from kars)
I love how Joseph was first seen with his wallet getting stolen by Smokey in part 2 and then he was last seen with his wallet getting stolen by josuke in part 4 LMAO
A theory I heard for Joseph's "your next line" trick is that Joseph, both being a native English speaker and avid reader of American comics like Superman, reads from left to right. Jojo, being a Japanese manga, is read from right to left. So Joseph knows his opponent's next line because he's reading his own manga backwards.
Andrea Coristine Charles dolling dropping rhymes I’ve been arrested 7 times I know that sounds like a lot, three of those times were for vandalism. Feel real bad I got caught, might do it again, probably not, I’m not here to make pretenses I’m here because of my sex offenses.
Andrea Coristine its seriously the most braindead point ever, you could say the same thing about literally every other jojo so, such a moronic argument has zero ground.
Cuz mostly Joseph stans will insult somebody who hate him cuz they have real arguments again him? Joseph for real very bad written character and only his personality saves situation. "I hate Japenese, but I'll cheat on my wife with some other Japanese" there's no logic.
Joseph never disliked japanese people per se. He said he hated them because a japanese man took his daughter away in a sense, as you said, but he also was probably overcompensating over the sheer guilt o having that affair with a japanese woman. You can tell he always regretted making that mistake and tries to atone for it in Diamond is Unbreakable.
@@Distoration He's the strongest in my opinion so far though l haven't really finished the series but he seems like the strongest so far. He defeated Kars who is a literal god and the arguably the strongest character in the series.
Esdeath Joestar - JoJokes and more he’s honestly the Deadpool of the JoJos... young Joseph at least but the reason Joseph was nerfed after battle tendency is to give the newer JoJos time to shine
Because Joseph is an asshole and he knows it and he doesn't try to better himself then cheats on his wife. And we're supposed to root for him as a protagonist? Joseph sucks end of story.
joseph joestar was the real chad that got to go to space first I remember correcting my history teacher over this the bitch wanted proof I show her proof and no belevies me what bs
Joseph the kind of guy for open relationships, it looks worse considering Joseph cheated around 1982, today, he would be a dude who wanted to be free lol, he's a new american so it makes sense
Joseph was the slickest and best laughable character in jojo in my opinion so far. I do not see how josuke is an upgraded version of Joseph at all. Each jojo has their own unique personality
weirdly enough i loved the shit out of Joseph the moment i started Battle Tendency (partly because he was such a breath of fresh air from Jonathan) but after getting through p4 Josuke became my favorite jojo
I always liked the first 2 jojos the most, not just because I do mainly prefer hamon over stands, given how easy stands become just OP and broken with a little upgrade or extra thought, but I found they had the most unique personalities, after part 4 everyone just feels like the last jojo, just rinsed off and an extra trim color added to call it new or different, it just stopped feeling like after 3 (or 4 depending on how you look at the characters) that the newer and newer jojos just stopped being different people and just were an off brand of the last one
Joseph is my favourite Joestar the way he fights in his part is rather different than with hermit purple The only thing he was doing that I’ve seen someone else say and makes perfect sense “he reads the manga backwards because he’s English”
Grandsome A. He only cheated on his wife because of an Araki retcon. B. The result of that infidelity was Josuke Higashikata, widely considered to be among the best JoJos.
Your argument about Joseph's stand is faulty. Stands are the manifestations of one's spirit. Therefore, we can say that Joseph possesses a telepathic stand ability because he had an exceptional understanding of his enemies, and not the other way around.
Joseph was used to hand to hand combat with hamon, it actually make sense that he would get something more like a weapon instead of a personified stand. That said, I never ranked the jojos by strenght. Joseph is just great to watch, he managed to be the most entertaining character in part 4 even from the sidelines. I live for his OHHHHHH SHITTTTTTT
Thank you I’m not the only one to think his arguments were stale af. Calling his abilities cheating is like saying Lebron is good at basketball because he cheats. He developed a skill and perfected it.. but that’s cheating?? Stop it
Damn, Joseph is in my top 3 favourite Jojos. His personality is so fun. I personally have more issues with Jotaro. It seemed like he was the strongest cool guy who even got to defeat Dio without having to work hard to harness his power.
What i’ve seen for people hating on Joseph is that he isn’t very powerful and he cheated on his wife. Joseph could’ve been more powerful if he had kept up with his hamon training but i’m guessing he just wanted to settle down. I see people love Jotaro even though he never did very much to make his stand stronger and he just wasn’t a very great character in my opinion (I only watched the anime so take my opinion lightly) Jotaro was only so powerful because that just how his stand was imagine if his character was motivated and improved his stand he would be amazing. I love Joseph for his personality. Yes, the other JoJo’s have their moments where their personality’s are similar but Joseph is simple and that why I love him he is my favorite JoJo.
@@nwojunkie you don't understand the morality of Joseph. For him it ok to do tricks only if it is made for a more important, bigger goal or survival. Kars was doing the trickery for his own goals and he also disrrspected his comrade's dead body and last wish
The argument of joseph being able to read his opponents mind doesn´t really make sense, since Araki most likely just wanted to somehow implement Hamon into the story when it was already done for. It is very unlikely that he wrote Joseph and all of Phantom Blood with the ideas of Stands already floating around in his mind. Therefore in the interview he simply tried to make a connection between stands and hamon. So yes in-universe u could say that he could have already had his stand in his youth, but the character Joseph and what he does was written in a way to show that he acutally is smart.
Yeah, Hamon could do the mindreading stuff... if anything, it kinda makes me think Joseph's Hamon training influenced his Stand's existence. After all, it's a good conductor of Hamon and does a lot of what he could do with Hamon anyway.
@Samurai Nuke Thats because stands are based on the characteristics and traits and abilities of the user. Of course you would see the stand. But he didn't. And no one else did. It was developing and shit. Thats how i think of it. Also, esidisi predicted josephs next line. How was he able to do that? I seriously doubt esidisi was also using some kind of mind reading stand by accident.
Hating Joseph is pretty difficult lol. The only reason I can find for "hating" him is his affair but that also resulted in josuke who is another extremely likeable character.
@@godz3717 but then you could argue the reason there are stand users in Morioh is because they're somehow attracted to Josuke being a stand user. Josuke was the only one who became a stand user because of his bloodline. It always follows that stand users attract each other. I know the stand arrow in Part 4 was from Enya and Dio but then again it's fate; the arrow somehow ended up where a Joestar was born.
That's another reason to like him as a character imho. Not because I agree with him cheating but because it adds another layer to his character. He's kindhearted and good natured but also a bit of a hypocrite and prone to being kind of a dick moreso than the other jojos. He's arguably one of the most complex main characters in the series, and the most flawed. A good character isn't just their positive traits, but how their positive and negative traits interact and layer. That's why we all love Dio as a villain even though nobody actually likes him as a person. Joseph is, frankly, kind of annoying at times. But in an incredibly entertaining way so you still want to root for him.
joseph's training part was really well executed and he uses knowledge and training to win fights jotaro in part 3: i hate you mom, im gonna say like 12 words in the entire season, and win because i was born with a cool purple dude
Jonathan: Just pummels his opponents. Jotaro: Just pummels his opponents. Josuke: Just pummels his opponents. Giorno: Just pummels his opponents. Joseph: Outsmarts his opponents and beats them with pure guile and trickery. Lemme tell you, no other Jojo could beat a literal immortal god.
People hate Joseph?! This must be the work of an enemy stand. Jokes aside, he's my favorite JoJo, unlike Jotaro or Josuke he had no outright OP power or handicap, he had to plan and read emotions to beat his opponent, enemies were always stronger than him and he had to outsmart them or die, he would always care about his friends even when he had to show the opposite (for example when he runs from whammu to protect caesar and speedwagon) Dude he managed to beat the 4 pillar men by himself, they were way stronger than part 1 Dio and mastered hamon in less than a month. Yes, hes a trickster and cheated on his wife...and peeked on his own mother but hey, your next line is "He's the best JoJo anyway"
Josuke and Jotaro had to outhink their opponents too though. Josuke was losing against Kira until he used Crazy Diamond in the most unorthodox ways like using the cement to fly back and get distance. Jotaro used Star Platinum to kick off the ground for height and for bluffing against D'arby. Hamon was a powerful tool of Joseph's that were gifted to him JUST like the other Jojo's power after him. That's wack double standards to say otherwise.
I was really upset about that cheating thing not because it was Joseph, but because it was OLD Joseph. Tomoko is a spicy tomboy, but nevertheless it feels very out of character for OLD Joseph to have done that to his wife.
A lot of what you said applies to Jotaro and Josuke as well, especially when it comes to caring about their comrades. Jotaro and Josuke are willing to die for the people they know. Also, not every antagonist was stronger than Joseph, as he fought some thugs over the course of BT, that he easily defeated. Also, some of your statements are outright false. Joseph killed two Pillar Men, barely defeated one, and while he beat the last in a fair fight, he only survived him the last time. He also didn't come close to mastering Hamon, he just got it to the level needed to reliably damage a Pillar Man.
@@demoriginal Giorno has 2 dads and he's exactly like both of them, Jonathan is a noble Gentleman who forgave DIO and died with him for the better of mankind (his father would have done the same), and Okuyasu is dumb and ugly (sorry if you took this comment seriously).
He's also the most brash and asinine of all the JoJos, by a small margin. I still like him as a character despite that. Also, yeah. That whole cheating on his wife thing is a definite point of disfavor.
I don't care about that they relationship started when he was 19, like wtf so staying that long together married is amazing for both make him cheat just makes it seem more realistic, but was a clever way to create a new story
That's because D'arby can see hermit purple and if he saw that Joseph's soul would have been taken away anyway and no hamon wouldn't work since it's glowing and even normal people can see it as stated by smokey that Joseph started glowing when they first encountered
