I got the fortes and love them. Upgraded from fanatec v3’s and I’m able to brake later and more consistently with trail braking not being a problem. Took a while to get used to them for sure. I use socks and have no problem with comfort.

The connection problem happens because of the cable. Mine kept randomly disconnecting but since bought a new cable I've never had the same problem. Therefore, the solution is to buy a brand new USB-A to USB-C. I hope this helps.

Generally confused on why Dan had so much issues with the pedals as well as your self while boosted media raved about them and put them toe to toe with the sprints. Maybe calibration differences? Or driving style differences? Very odd to see such polar opinions on sim gear

During the connection problems, were you guys using the usb-c to usb-a cable? I was using that cable and had connection problems too sometimes (also 50%brake and 50% throttle input). When I switched to the usb-c to usb-c cable I have never had connection issues. Edit: Also one thing to note. The brake pedal being similar to a potentiometer is imo still not something to be said as a downside. At the start of every LC pedal set it's life, 100kg of force will be the same travel distance every time, it too will just measure similar to a potentiometer setup this way. Over time though, the elastomers of other pedalsets will deform and lose their strength. Because Asetek has encapsulated their elastomers, and thereby restrict the amount they can deform, they will not lose their strength (anywhere nearly as quickly). So where with a heusinkveld sprint or venym atrax pedal the elastomer can lose it's power and your pedal travel will change slightly, whereas with this it will stay the same and therefore it doesn't matter much that it tracks pedal travel, since the force you are exerting will virtually always be the same. I bought them before I saw Dan Suzuki's review and when I bought them I was under the impression that they really were like every other load cell pedal. Would I have preferred it to be that way? Yes, of course. After having used them for around 4 months now though, do I care or do I notice that they don't function like every other load cell pedal? No I don't. They are still a very nice pedal set, I can be accurate with it, I have good control, they are very smooth in operation and I am a happy customer.
@LatinMasterxx
@LatinMasterxx Год назад
Guess the problem here is, that they are marketed like every other load-cell pedal. Wouldn't be as much as a problem, if Asetek made it clear right from the start, that the loadcell in this pedal-set isn't for meassuring breakpressure, but only for increased product lifetime and consistancy over the lifetime.
@rayheat34

That's why the VRS pedals are so great because of spring and no deformation as the spring is very strong/hard

I don't particularly like Asetek, because it's holding hostage all AIO watercooling with the "head/pump" patent. I saw glowing reviews of these pedals from everyone and almost bought them. But thankfully I came across Dan's video, and went with Sprints instead*. Something was telling me "it's too good to be true", especially from this company. *I'm a software dev., and my server colleagues have a saying "nobody was ever fired by buying Intel". In simracing, You can't go wrong with Heusinkveld.

@@trevz1048 Sure, once you get into upper range, most loadcell pedals will be similar and you'll be happy with most of them. I firstly wanted to save a little and buy DC simracing pedals, but once I saw the free baseplate, it was no brainer.

@kevinblythe2192 Год назад
Yes. It seems most marketing and a number of reviews continue to imply they use a 180kg load cell but from all accounts it uses a tiny load cell closer to 5kg. The rest of the load is basically taken up by elastomer resistance so trail braking sensitivity can be compromised.

Is that a $0.50 bathroom scale load cell that only measures travel on a $499 pedal set? Why not just use a proper 100kg+ load cell to measure the pedal force? Mechanically that would be simpler and might be cheaper to manufacture...
@Leynad778

100 kg loadcell is about 35 €, twice the price for 200 kg and availability might be a problem as well. The Asetek-method is quite simple once you got the idea how to do it.

Why is compressing 1, 2 or 3 elastomers on a loadcell more accurate than a spring? Both provide resistance and feel between your foot and the loadcell. Both make the actual pedal move so by that logic elastomers and spring makes the pedal behave like a potentiometer. The only way to get away from that is a 100% hard pedal, and no one wants that. I completely fail to follow Suzuki's reasoning here as elastomers do the EXACT same thing.
@danielwillems3795
@danielwillems3795 Год назад
What they are on about is that with normal pedals the elastomers direct the force of the pedals directly to the load cell. With the Forte pedals you are compressing an elastomer, but the elastomer does not direct the force to the load cell. The pedal pushes the tiny spring against the load cell only based on the pedal travel. Springs are not inherently less accurate than elastomers, think of the T-LCM pedalset or the VRS pedals. It is just the way that it is applied in this case is what everyone is freaking out about. However, as I mentioned in my comment, I really don't care as a customer. I really like driving with the pedals and they are just a very good set of pedals. Even Dan Suzuki said that they are not a bad set of pedals at all, they just operate differently from the competition.
@vsm1456
@vsm1456 Год назад
Jesper, it's not about accuracy, the problem I see here is that the force you apply on the pedal is now disconnected from pedal readings. At the first stage of pressing the pedal, while you haven't reached elastomer yet, your force and the pedal readings match - i.e. 10% more pressure results in 10% more reading. But once you hit elastomer, they don't match anymore: you apply 10% more pressure, but since elastomer is hard to compress the pedal travel is only, I don't know, 3% for example - and this will also be what pedals report, +3% signal. Why it can be a problem? Loadcell pedals became popular because they don't report pedal travel like potentiometers or hall sensors, instead they report pressure (even if there's little or no travel at all) and it's more fitting for human body: it usually easy to remember how to apply X amount of force than how to move one thing X centimeters. Bonus, this is also how regular brakes work: your foot pushes against brake piston to create X amount of pressure between brake pads and brake discs. So a loadcell pedal is more natural to use and is also closer to reality. You get none of that with Asetek Forte, even though it's a $500 set of pedals marketed as loadcell. This doesn't automatically make it a bad product (some might like the way it works anyway) but it does make it at least questionable, in my eyes.

I tried modding my CSL-ELITE V1 pedals to have no travel and be 100% hard. That was the best performance I got out of that brake pedal. If I were able to have the pedal sitting in line with the other pedals, I would have kept the mod in place. Now I'm using 95 shore elastomers, and now the pedal is way too soft. LOL. Having pedals that stiff was surprisingly comfortable. I actually required lighter forces for braking than when I had to deal with pedal travel. Setting the pedal to 50 was perfect. I was able to brake with the lightest touch, but adding some deadzone made it possible to touch the pedal without seeing input. The biggest improvement was no pedal fall off under braking, rolling off the brake was possible and easier to manage and the force required for braking finally made sense. If I was able to keep the brake pedal in line with the other pedals, I wouldn't have reverted to the elastomers. But for now, I'm trying to find a way to get the pedals to sit where heel and toe braking works. Once I figure this out, the elastomers are getting removed again.
