The saddest thing is that R2, unlike C-3PO, never lost his memory, so he never forgot the horrors he experienced since Episode I. The worst thing is that in the "Legacy" comics R2 is still active, as a member of the Skywalker Family, which means he saw all the characters from the Original Trilogy die, including his beloved C-3PO 😢
@@jibril2473 "In the second trilogy, C-3PO dies once in Cloud City, when the Imperial troops dismember him." Vader saw his droid getting ready to be scrapped there'sa comic on it.
...You should also see the Tales comic "Storyteller", set way, way into the distant future post-Legacy. Good stuff, even if it feels a bit like the surprisingly depressing Turn A Gundam.
Yup! It's why Anakin was so attached to R2, to the point of refusing to ever wipe his memory (which maybe also symbolizes his refusal to ever let go too) and going out of his way to save save him.
R2 was techincally property of the Naboo royalty since he was manufactured for serving on the queen's ship. When Anakin and Padme married, R2 was her gift to Anakin, since he'll help him out more in the upcoming battles against the separatists; and C-3PO was Anakin's gift to Padme, a droid he created to help take care of his mother, and with her gone now, the women he loved most. C-3PO having his memory deleted hits so different after knowing this.
*Fun fact:* In early drafts of A New Hope, R2-D2 spoke Basic, so we perfectly understood his cruel and merciless comments. He was basically a robot version of Joe Pesci.
@@womenareobjects67Speaking the standard language of the Galaxy. So when all the characters are speaking in the films and stuff, that’s basic. The droids speak a different language
R2 truly loved Anakin and wanted to be with him no matter what. In fact, of all Anakin's grandchildren, R2 had the strongest bond with Anakin Solo, who also had a passion for technology and droids, sharing the kid with the astromech many adventures together. I can't even imagine what R2 felt when he lost both Anakin. "I am so sorry, master. I failed you. You trusted me. And I failed you" 😢
Curiously, R2 recorded Anakin's attack on Padmé in Mustafar. Such recording would be kept hidden until Luke snd Leia found it 55 years later, during the Killik invasions. Such discovery made them finally discover who their mother was
So I had this idea for a force sensitive character that gets a hold of an old Jedi Starfighter. With most of the systems broken, he has to operate it with almost entirely the force. He doesn't realize this initially. He just really really wanted it to work. So it does. Also, the Jedi Starfighter is haunted by a force ghost with a quest to find his old Droid. Shenanigans ensue.
The idea of a old starfighter being haunted by a Sith/fallen Jedi spirit and a normal Force sensitive unknowingly being influenced by it while flying it does sound like a cool concept!
I like the idea, but a force ghost haunting a starfighter seems odd lore-wise. Said force ghost would have to have quite an attachment enough to be linked to the starfighter, which you don't see many Jedi having attachments anyway. Maybe the ghost of a rogue Jedi or an Order 66 survivor turned victim would fit better.
I would implore everyone to read the Dark Lord Trilogy as it does a great job summarizing Anakins turn to the dark side (instead of the rather rushed scene in the movie) and then how much he struggled in the first few months in his new Vader suit while coming to grips with embracing the dark side
There maybe other droids, out there as efficient and competent as r2, but that exceptional little droid is irreplacable to the members of the skywalker family. That it is no surprise that after losing him, Vader only put up with another droid for so long before designing a fighter that didn't need one.
I wonder what Vader's reaction would be if he had to work with the KOTOR 2 droid companions. Their chemistry is simply unbeatable. HK-47: "Statement. I cannot wait to use my excellent metal skills to destroy all the possible meatbags before permanently stop functioning in this glorious final battle." S3-M4: "Di-Diii!" G0-T0: "If there is anything that can console me in this horrible life or death situation, it is the thought these two morons are going to die with me..."
It's sad how much Anakin's transformation in Darth Vader affected both him and R2. R2 lost his best friend, who he still holds memories of, and Darth Vader no longer cares for what he uses. R4-K5 didn't deserve to be paired with Vader, I just hope he was sent elsewhere and placed under the command of those that cared for him.
Most likely destroyed. You don't even risk a memory wipe for it. R4 would have involved in some classified top secret stuff that could not be allowed to get out.
In Legends, Vader stored several of his old craft in a museum/hangar at Bast Castle and was implied to be where a few of his vehicles ended up. With Disney, he might have done the same and R4-K5 might be either there (if it exists in the current timeline) or in the castle on Mustafar, powered down or left to maintain things there
I would like to say a massive thankyou I have been watching your videos for a very long time now and I've watched this channel grow. Thankyou for you contributed efforts to the star wars community. May the force be with you 🎉
Would love to see a longform sequel story that showcases KayFive's spotlight arc. Who knows if they ended up becoming a bit intelligent and caring enough to want to become a worthy successor to this Artoo of days long past... only to fail and be coldly destroyed during a dogfight that brutally showcases why Vader's opinions against the increasingly obsolete Eta Actis bore fruit and led to the monster flying superior craft like the TIE Advanced and Defender as the years went on.
I imagine R4K5 still maintained his useful after Vader started using ties. Probably either being given to another high ranking commander. Or maybe just being in charge of maintenance droids or something. It is very in logical that they would just scrap a droid that has as much potential as R2. Sure the Empire is cold and calculating but not stupid. At most he might have gotten memory wiped tho.
R2 is the most valuable being out there. He has never been wiped. In his memory's banks is all jedi training and lessons his sensors pick up every mission when he hacked into a network and downloaded ship designs and weapons that was a problem for the galaxy he still got and nobody knows
I've been binging your content today, comicstorian of Star Wars. I've always had this weird hatred/disdain of non-GL written Star Wars material, feeling like it was glorified fanfiction whether it was licensed or not, but now as i'm older? It's pretty cool stuff. Better than what Disney has done, for sure. Anyways, thanks for the content. I see you have over 1mil so this will probably fly under the radar but I'm very happy to have found your channel and it opened my eyes to the greater Star Wars universe
Sad thing is R2 didn't lose his memory of ROTS and the rest of the Prequel Era so he still recalled when Anakin turned evil and attacked Padme albeit he tried to "forget" if a droid can do that. Luke had to coax him into showing him what happened and it affected R2 badly when he saw it again.

I mean canon-wise, he was onboard of Padme royal ship and was probably built on Naboo? Like do they want to expand any more on that??? Wow thought this channel went dark ORDER 66 Fans: "What happened to R4?" R2-D2: "I "calmly told" him that only one droid was there could, have served, to Anakin+=toSkywalker. " 😉
I always thought that Star Wars’ main character is R2. He’s the only constant. You could say that about the Falcon too I suppose, but after Solo, the Falcon does have a droid consciousness in B4
In the marvel comic of Darth Vader he hadaquried two droids one was a black version of the kind of droid c-3po is, and a black version of a astromek droid who looked like a black version of that orange and white droid from the new hope movie:(who’s name I can’t remember right now🙄🤦🏻♂).
There are so many cool and interesting stories that you cover it's a shame Disney ignores them. I just watched your video on the rebel and storm trooper left behind and that is could have been the basis of a great movie. Or in a compilation show where we explore a different story every episode, this story would fit perfectly in that format. They ignore all this out of the arrogance(imo) that they can do better. Again in my opinion, they can't do better and over the years have done much worse. When Disney bought Star Wars I was a life long fan and was so excited to see what they would do with the IP. Now I don't even care and I've not watched an official Star Wars movie or show in close to a decade now unless I'm rewatching one of the classics(first 6). Sorry I know this isn't the place to complain about Disney, it's just infurating that they have so much amazing material to work with but basically just pitch it in the trash.
Does anybody know moth gideons tight Interceptor or TIE fighter is it based off Darth Vader's one with the curvature of the Wings i'm just asking just curious🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔

In the revenge of the sith novelization, it’s explained that all R series Astro mechs were from Naboo, built by the Royal Engineers of Naboo. So he (like all R2, R4s, etc) was built on Naboo and then specifically sent to the royal palace to be a R unit for their palace space defense fleet. He just happened to be one of the droids Padme’s gaurd were able to quickly acquire before they escaped in her ship after the Trade Federation blockaded the planet
@@Renkencen I mean they kind of did in the Phantom Menace when we first see the Queen leave and all the R unit astromechs were loaded onto her ship, then repairing it and R2 was the only one to raise the shields while they escaped the Trade Federation. R2-D2 was just one of however many hundreds of R2 units produced so idk how much more of bigger reveal they could do outside of showing him rolling off the factory line and being delivered to the palace until the blockade happened. I mean I guess Disney could always do something different in their canon if they wanted.
In the comics, he found 3PO on bespin and picked up the head, staring into it. When asked about it, he tossed it aside and said its nothing more than junk. this is also disney canon if im not mistaken, which makes it canon to the current movies and everything.
