Seahawks fan so no biase. Injuries affect burrows ranking, don’t affect lamaar, who has had 3 season ending injuries. Feels very short sighted

Derrik does awesome work, but some of the film guys have lost their minds on Burrow. 32 of 32 teams would take Burrow over Dak and he's actually under contract for the entire duration of this exercise.

Is it wild to say that Jared Goff is most of the same as what Dak Prescott is, minus some of the athleticism/play extension? (which is a big factor no doubt). Both are among the best at making pre-snap adjustments, and they have similar physical skillsets when it comes to throwing the ball. Goff has a slightly better arm, Prescott has a more aggressive mentality. Both also react similarly to pressure, although Dak has the legs to bail him out better like I said earlier. Goff is also a year younger with less of an injury history as well, so I think he could age better over 3 more years than Dak too. Drafting Prescott at 6 while Goff doesn't even crack the Top 15 doesn't really make sense to me.

Dak was WAY overrated in this exercise. I'd rather have Purdy making $1 & $1.1M the next 2 seasons than Dak (and Lawrence). Love should have been taken over Dak (and Lawrence).

When you factor in the contracts, the difference between the guys who've been paid and the rookies is basically the contract for a top DE or WR1. That's quite a bit of additional value.

As a fellow Chiefs fan, I think the fact that Burrow was basically out for the 2023 season made them forget what a stone cold assassin he is. I hope he doesn’t see this because he’s just as petty as Mahomes.

My own assessment of Burrow fluctuates because I haven't found any analysis videos breaking down the play-calling on the Bengals yet. So what we know is Raw Stats & eye-test. That's rather incomplete. The raw stats for Russell Wilson for instance don't tell you t he has led the league in passes behind the LOS for 5 years straight & he's been bottom-tier in explosive plays for three as well. Or why do some people Still Insist that Lamar is an over-valued RB? Because if you don't look st how the play-calling affects his play, then he _WAS_ a glorified pedestrian passer for 3 years. Burrow has had an élite WR _trio_ but no great receivers at any other positions. He has been sacked, hit & pressured more than Adrew Luck. While I've *heard analysts **_say_* Zac Taylor's play-calling is 'problematic' no one has ever elaborated on what they mean by that & obviously the fans tolerate it without much noise so it can't be _that_ bad. I'd put only Mahomes, Jackson, Allen, Rodgers only if he returns to form & *Fields* above him, so long as I'm talking about QBs being affected by play-calling. Not because of stats but because I don't know how anyone doesn't see Fields' high-end talent & hos it's totally undermined by Matt *Eberflus,* not Luke Getsy. Stroud needs to do what he did for more than one year before I'll put him there. Levis now has a WR trio. _He_ might surprise us.

Very interesting point about Burrow not consistently attacking the middle of the field. In his last playoff game, he threw picks against rookie DBs ... Spags probably knew his tendencies.

Dak and Herbert over burrow is ridiculous and frankly Dak over Love is also. Love had a better 2nd half of the season than ANY qb and outplayed Dak in the playoffs by a country mile. The difference in talent on display that day was huge. These guys need to get it together.

Just listen to what y’all are saying. Lamar difficulty might be 3x everyone else’s beside Cj and Lamar blasted them out the playoffs. How can we properly judge Lamar when every time it matters his offensive talent supremely lacks compared to his counterparts. Not for Allen and Pat but Pat has Kelce and that clearly mattered in the AFC chip. Lamar literally completed a pass to himself.

So much time was spent discussing if Brock Purdy deserves to be in the MVP conversation last season and likely the same conversation is going to happen this season. But they don’t even take him in their top FIFTEEN

This list is solely projection after Herbert. Two of the QBs mentioned haven't even played an NFL snap, and another was hurt after playing 3.5 games. Burrow should probably be higher, but he's had 2 season ending injuries so I can see the fall. There's a couple of names on this list that shouldn't be because there are already rumors about their retirement circling now. As for Purdy, Mays has said on a few pods that he was trying to stay away from talking about him, but Purdy played so well they couldn't ignore it. When Mays has talked about Purdy, it feels way more negative than positive, so the fact that he's left off here doesn't shouldn't surprise too many. Chase Daniels is the only one to really defend Purdy on the Pod.

Not having picking a player who was in the MVP conversation most of last season, with 1M cap hit for the next two years, is a choice. They obviously think Purdy has reached his potential. Way too many rookies getting paid more than Purdy over the next 3

I think that literally proves these dudes have no idea what they're doing, TBH. It makes the whole exercise a joke. They're supposed to be considering salary when making these selections. No competent GM would rather have Dak Prescott making $55M over Brock Purdy making $1M. A salary difference of literally $54M.... You can get a top level OT and a top level DE for $54M. Not only does Purdy's salary make him a much better than value than just about every other NFL QB, but as he's legitimately a top 15 (maybe top 10) QB based on skill/talent alone with no consideration for salary.

Also, the Josh Allen stuff at this point is just eye of the beholder. Some think he's great, I see an above average QB that will simply never get it done because he cannot execute at the highest levels consistently. I'd rather have Burrow and Stroud for sure.

I understand that these are projections but like Robert said. Purdy is making around $1m for the next two years. Even if they tag him in the 3rd year he would still make less than Maye, Williams and Richardson. He belongs in that 10-15 range

As a Cowboys fan, Dak is way too high. The guy will kneecap your salary cap with a crazy high number, leave you with no flexibility (short contract, no trade clause, no tag clause), bomb during the playoffs, bomb against good competitors in the regular season, bomb unless he’s got a lot of help, and then (because of the short contract), have you go through a zoo again in a ridiculously short period of time. Sure, a ‘poverty’ franchise that’s never able to draft a QB might (still doubt it though) pay him out of desperation, because they’d be happy with an okay regular season. Dallas has had Staubach and Aikman. Below that tier, we’ve had the likes of Danny White, Craig Morton, and Don Meredith - who’s ‘sins’ were getting to the Super Bowl … but never winning. Below that tier we have Romo - equally ineffective in the playoffs, but never made more than No 6 money when the contract was freshly signed, and never made a peep about the money. (Also arguably made a few subpar receivers better - Terrance Williams, Patrick Crayton, etc.) Looking at your list - I play a simple game - would I rather have QB X and X’s contract, or Dak and his wacky pay demands? The only QBs on the list I might prefer to have Dak: Caleb Williams (think he’s got strong bust potential) and Kyler Murray (headcase potential)… but even then I’d have to think about it. Even if Caleb busts… you can just go to the draft and not pay a crapbasket of money for no results.

@@dillonmurphy2394 of course, I’ve actually been lucky enough to see Herbert play live. He made the most impressive throw I’ve ever seen live in fact that day. I think if you want to slot him anywhere in the top 6 quarterbacks I understand it. I personally think he’s a slight notch below Burrow, Lamar, and Allen. To me he there are just games with him when it feels like he’s very passive and doesn’t do much to tilt the balance, I think some of that is poor coaching, but I also think his is by nature a more risk averse player. But there’s no denying he’s an unbelievable physical talent and a very polished quarterback overall.

@@davidwelch443 don’t disagree with that, his biggest flaw is his over tendency to be conservative/avoid negative plays but he makes enough insane downfield throws that it’s really just a nitpick for me. Him, Lamar and Burrow are all interchangeable for me after Mahomes and Allen.

Dak's processing might be the most overrated aspect of any NFL QB. Any good defense reads him like a book and comes away with turnovers. Dude will roast garbage NFC East defenses and then throw the dumbest picks against top 10 teams

This is atrocious lol. Burrow and Trevor getting hurt has been catastrophic for any kind of nuanced ranking. Dak at 6 is hilarious, especially using one of the worst mvp years in recent memory as a bizarre, since I recall the crew acknowledging in the past that the mvp doesn't just go to the best qb. The stroud one had me laughing. Tua and Purdy get rightfully dinged for playing in qb daycare, but Stroud is the greatest qb to ever grace the Earth. The day his OC leaves and people have to grappke with him falling off a cliff is going to have me rolling

People in these comments need to learn the difference between past performance and PROJECTION. The concept of this is for the future not the past. If you want a ranking based on past performance, theres plenty of those but that's not the exercise this is. This is buying lottery tickets. Its about whats going to happen in the future not ranking guys based on what they did before.

Brock Purdy has 2 more years at $1M & $1.1M... It's pretty ridiculous to not have him in the top 15. Actually, it makes zero sense whatsoever. I'd MUCH rather have Purdy @ $1M than Dak Prescott at whatever he's going to be making going forward ($50M+). Dak & Trevor Lawrence are WAY over valued on this exercise. I don't think you guys even know what you're doing, tbh. Nobody who understands football & the salary cap would draft Dak and/or Lawrence over Burrow, Purdy, Love, and even Goff. Goff (and Cousins) have a bad rap. Both guys are legitimately better QBs than Dak or Lawrence, but Dak plays for America's Team and Lawrence is still remembered as the can't miss prospect from Clemson despite not being that guy IRL.

I'm sorry but I'm just stuck on Purdy not getting drafted in this exercise. That fact literally de-legitimizes the whole exercise. Purdy is a top 15 NFL QB even if salary is not considered. When we consider he's making $1M for the next 2 years when most of these other guys are making $40M+ it's quite obvious he should have been drafted over guys like Dak Prescott who's current cap hit is $55M next season. No competent NFL GM would rather have Dak @ $55M over Purdy @ $1M. I'm new The Athletic. I thought this draft seemed interesting, so I clicked on it... I will not be clicking on any other The Athletic videos in the future. Why would I? This video literally proves that they have no fucking idea what they're doing or talking abou
