On this weeks Video
We review the 2012 FPV FG MK2 GT a very complicated name to a very simple aussie muscle car :) The GT features the Legendary Coyote engine and from factory will push over 450HP to the rear end🔥 this 4 door aussie salon , based off of fords family falcon sedan this car may look similar but it's a whole other beast under the skin..
FPV is like the AMG equivalent for ford australia.. so when you see the FPV badge you know this is the best of the best.. much the same to HSV here in Australia.

Nice, I wish we had more selection here in NZ. Hard to find a decent 5.0 unlike the 5.4 so many but people want ridiculous money for them, the equivalent of buying a 5.0.

They are 500hp cars from the factory... only time you get 450hp is when it's 40 degrees outside and ECU pulls timing.

G'day Jon...Loved this....That's a beaut example...personally I love the factory wheels Ford chose on the different models and especially loved the shape of the FG , probably why I bought my beaut FG XR6 because I fell in love with the look from first day of release in 2008 .Took me 8 years to get one but I got it eventually ...Love your expression on the acceleration . Hey, I'm with you, I fell in love with the shape and style from the very first model. It took me up to about 3 years ago to finally get my 2013 mk2 xr6, and I still love the way it looks, the designers at the time nailed it. Hope you have many years of enjoyment

Thanks very much Ross, for reviewing something different as oppose to a F6 or GEN F GTS! It's not like that the Barra turbo or the LSA are over-rated! It's just that the Miami V8 is more under-rated! Bloody top notch review and what a great car. I'm a Holden man 100% but if I were to buy a Ford this would be it, I don't care about a barra doing 8s for 2 grand they will never have a sound like a supercharged V8.

@NGK450 Yeah yeah nar been there done that. I had a 04 XR6T, was boring as hell with the stock 240KW. I know their top engines but nowadays I like to have nice sound with my power.

Drive a fpv f6 on full boost and you might change your mind. I'd rather that sound and power over any v8.

My bf2 xr6t handled horrible when I got it.ive since put whiteline 30mm front and 22mm rear swaybars and bc gold coilovers and the handling was a huge improvement.good responsive turn in with very little body roll and no understeer.

If anyone here is interested in buying one of these Aussie engineering masterpieces, mine is for sale at Nuford in Wangara. It is the best looked after GT you'll ever see. Mods include: Centre resonator, hi-flow cats, BMC filter, lowered on King Springs and LED interior lighting... only $36k !!

😍 I have one of these beasts and everything said in this video is spot on. Except fuel consumption isn’t that bad, it’s really good if you drive it like an old lady though drive it like it’s meant to be driven, open up the wallet. But on cruise control on highways or like a granny in the suburbs, it’s way economical for a V8

Doug - core cheaper to run than my liberty station wagon with a turbo’d four cylinder boxer engine. And not much more to run than my old Toyota Vienta with the alloy V6 from the Lexus and that was cheap to run. The FPV is a lot more fun to drive than any car I’ve ever had regardless.

Ross, thank you for a great review on the Falcon. I seriously appreciate the translation to the American specifications. Why Ford in USA did not import and place them on the American market was a huge mistake. I admit, the Falcon lineup would have seriously have hurt the Fusion sales. However, to plush up the Falcon could have helped save Mercury or made a hot Lincoln to compete with the German imports. USA importing Falcons would have helped the Australian Ford division also. Just my opinion, thanks for listening.

The best sounding Aussie car out of the factory hands down.. absolutely love these FG GT’s my pick would be the 2014 with the piano black inserts leather and sunroof. Siting on 20’s,black in colour.. not up to match with the hsv interior as ford never had the budget holden/hsv did.. but it works and the drive line makes up for it all.. btw motors are good for 400kw with a tune from 2010 onwards only sum thing the 430 gts could do in 2014 , so ford where really the leaders in boost for manny years but as always budget got the best of them

I had the opportunity to buy either the FPV or the HSV . For me, it's the FPV all day. I brought the FG GT 315. It's the 5th anniversary edition , so it came with lots of extras and a build run of only 200.

Am I the only one who loves the interior.. subtle sleek and not over the top unlike every other manufacturer. Seems like you gotta lot to learn about that ZF auto Ross. I wouldn't swap my auto (unless FGX Sprint that manual box is on point) over manual any day, that said from a manual preference guy.

i know that the ZF is a amazing gear box.. i praised it basically the whole review.. but im of the mind set that the manual option is always the best even if its slower it's more of a connective drive.. that's just me tho.. oh n ps yes i've reviewed the FGX XR8 Sprint the manual is SO GOOD

@@RossReviewsau Totally understand that's how I felt about manual until a buddy years ago with a BF FPV F6 Typoon R-Spec let me boost it. I drive mine like a manual everywhere, feeling always in control. If it wasn't for the sports shift and the feeling of being one with a vehicle such as the R-Spec racing round these twisted windy roads here in New Zealand I wouldn't have budged. Also depending how you drive the ECU will respond accordingly. So if you drive like a Nana then boost then mummy drive then boost etc etc you're ECU will never perform to its full potential. That's why I thrash mine mandatory 120000ks of abuse and of course on point servicing and she's mint, some mates wonder what I've done to my coon but it's only cause she's been brought up that way lol. And yeah the Sprint review was on point buddy!

@@mosesslapsit4407 i never really knew how much a zf could really adapt to a driver since i came from au's and ba's with a pretty primitive learning system in them. But now my zf has even started down shifting under brakes for me in performance drive mode so its grabbed the gear i want before I've even come out of a corner and mashed the pedal. My mate is jealous his fgx xr8 isnt doing it yet.

@@godnnat Exactly! I'm so happy they continued the same look, my favorite part was seeing it get better and better from BA-FGX. Agreed the VF really tried to upmarket itself getting all fake Merc/Beema like. The interior is so fragile and easy to scratch and mark, and so much plastic. I'd much prefer a VEII interior, I got no dislikes there maybe 1 or 2 but I guess I'm to fussy lol.

These things have a hidden launch control bud. A lot of people don't know that. You leave it in normal drive and with traction on. Floor the brake and then gas... it will stay active for 3 sec I've gone mine to do 100kmhr in low 4s but mines tuned

19s are the on the edge of the "performance" for rim/wheel size and bigger and they become show pony wheels/rims also ford Australia always focused on their engine and drive line over the interior which is what I prefer over have the latest and greatest infotainment system, if you get any more of the FPV in autos use sport mode on the gearbox as it will rev harder and respond faster for any of your Canadian/U.S. viewers the coyote engine block is a revised Miami block for better cooling / airflow into the block as Ross said a smaller pulley full exhaust system and tune is a 600+hp that's with out putting a better cooling system in place

Fact. I was involved in testing with DJR back in the late 90s when they were testing (then speedline) rim sizes for optimum performance... from 15 to 22 inch... the most efficient for weight, strength etc was 17inch! Pressure forced them to go 18s in the end but 17 was optimum for performance in all categories (sans visual)

Have you considered doing a Rotary video? RX7? RX8? Bit different from the heavy high HP cars, good way to change things up a bit. I own a G6ET while my wife owns an RX8. They are like chalk and cheese, and do everything differently. Both are fun to drive though. One for straight line, one for corners. 😁

FPV don't have coyote engines. They have the Miami engines. They use a stripped down reengineered coyote block. The rest is pro drive assembled from fomoco catalogue gt350 quad cam heads with pro drive internals making it a new engine called the Miami. The older ones used the boss 5.4l with the same reengineering by pro drive. Great vid.

FGs look great. There's a BA owner who works in a garage not far from me (he's kiwi) and he told me that Aussie Falcons banned here because they failed the seatbelt safety test (his was exempt because he put his has racing harnesses)

I've got the 2010 5.4L boss 315 no super charger but to make it the same kW as this all I need is a big mouth air intake. It'll be the exact same 335kw. Go the n/a 5.4L. Build no# 895

As a previous owner I bought a 300 SRT8 instead of another falcon or mustang, there is no denying its a great driveline but they seriously lack in comfort and features, the less said about the S550s build quality and panel gaps the better.

thank you man appreciate the support! ive done a XR8 Sprint which was epic! as for how these go against a LSA.. id say the power is pretty equal.. tho the GTS just feels like a more complete car.. much nicer interior and feel.

The gts has 577 bhp and 546 ibft. And looks better, sounds better ,and will do 60 in 4 seconds and 205 mph.👍

I think Ford nailed it when they designed the BA But i would swap out all the performance parts Coyote v8, 6 speed manual, 4 pot brake and a good suspension set-up.

i do like a clean BA possibly even better looking than the FG if done right.. but ya 100% needs to be a manual if a BA

@@RossReviewsau yeah i agree , In my opinion the BA looks more aggressive than the FG I do have an SR BA with a factory V8 (220), Im.hoping to replace my 4 speed auto with a 6 speed manual . At the moment it's mostly stock

XR6 = Massive top end speed (Quicker at the Drags) GT = Instant speed (Quicker in everyday driving) just my thoughts.. both amazing cars

That supercharger sounded killer from the outside. The interior looks so wrong on this type of car. As an owner though, that will quickly cease to be a problem with the breathtaking driving experience, especially in the dark lol. Sure sounds nicer than a turbo six.

New Mustang looks like a tank but has a 2 Star Ancap rating. It increased to 3 only because of new feature but the crash test results r the same. These FPV ones on the other hand has 5 star ratings.

297 kmph watch you tube target 300 with John bowe driving a factory road car on a closed stretch of public road in the Northern Territory , coarse bitumen , hot day & windy , it was the first 300kmph capable road car ( totally stock & unmodified apart from limiter removal ) made in this country , by comparison a phase 3 gtho only capable of around 230 kmph .

it's the GEN1 Coyote block with locally developed internals and Harrop 1.9L blower running about 8psi 500hp stock and 600hp with exhaust, air filter and tune.

@@RossReviewsau there were 2 HSV GTS,s on the track that day and yep they only pulled a car length on the Ford on the back straight , The Falcon and the Mustang felt very very quick for street cars , braked and turned well for stock daily drivers as well and definitely not shamed by the big HSV GTS

I own a Chevy SS/VF SS. And a Chevy Caprice/WM. I love Holden to death. I love Australian car companies. We atleast got a American version of some of the Holden but Ford never ever built anything like this for us over here. Just some lame ass FWD Fusion and a awd Taurus ecoboost V6 turbo crap. Man I would love a FPV over here.

As a part of prodrive's design, they uprated the zf with stronger parts over the turbo models. Hence why you never hear about 330+kw Miami falcons snapping shafts but always hear about turbos breaking them when they get upgrades or just tunes.

My problem with falcons are that they just aren’t special enough, seriously fast yes but you buy a falcon for the engine only, the rest of the package is a let down. The looks, the interior. My dream car the vxr8 is in a different league, not as fast no, but as a complete package the Vauxhall/ hsv is a clear winner.

You would absolutely cream your jeans if you got your hands on the new holy grail package by premcar. The former fpv workers really know what they're doing with these cars and the package they have built is what they always wanted the big old girl to be without fords budget restrictions. Nothing comes close amd they still say they're only running them at 60% of their true potential. They must have gotten some mean power out of the cfd and prototype builds back in the prodrive days. Alot of the work prodrive did actually went into the cobra jet drag racing development too.

@@RossReviewsau Great video by the way, love these cars. First one i picked up on was the name of the engine, so the one in the FPV GT 335's (much easier to say it this way haha) is called a Miami. So Prodrive Aus took the idea of the coyote 5.0L from the mustangs (and too a degree were developed at the same time), but besides a similar bottom end of the block and visually looking similar, the insides differ a fair amount due to being built for Australian conditions and having the 1.9L Eaton supercharger attached (which you did go into a little bit in the video). 2nd one was breaks, so these GT's came factory with 6pot front breaks and 4 pot rears (i know, this one is picking at straws a bit) After that i was just enjoying the video too much, I have the manual version and they are great fun to drive.
