I fixed up the "slug" reputation of the Boss 290 in my Mk.2 BF GT-P by fitting a supercharger. At the moment with 12psi it doesn't feel sluggy anymore... Oil pump gears, cams, boost and 500kw later, it has the power to match the handling and braking and feels like the car FPV should have built. They were 3/4 of the way there with the GT-P handling, braking and luxury options. They should have added boost because this thing is phenomenal to drive now.

There hasn’t been an Australian commie since the 5ltr. Will always baffle me why people put commies in the same conversation as falcons when talking about being Australian made. They don’t even come close to the falcons.

@Mac Morison I mean I’m a Ford man but The only true Aussie Falcon’s in recent history have been the 6 cylinders. Basically all of Fords V8’s have been American as well, just redone to be more Australian. But were very much American to start with.

You are 100% Correct Excellent review I bought my 2005 Menace GT-P from new and drove it for 4 years then put it in the back shed. I’ve have had several cars since including a 2009 HSV GTS, 2015 Jeep Hemi, 2017 Mustang GT and the GT-P is still my first love. It’s just a damn fine car to drive and always makes me smile when I take her out. Having said that the Mustang GT is a close second

You nailed it, a great cruising car. My BA GT-P is a really nice car to just do a heap of miles in, 226000ks on her now. It's standard, Blueprunt blue, the big brake package, premium sound etc. I was thinking about selling it but I can't bring myself to do it. I have a genuine BF Super Pursuit engine (115000k ) in it at the moment, until i can afford to rebuild the original. Didn't blow her up, just wanted a fresh engine to go with the fresh paint, NOS wheels, NOS roof liner, NOS fog and headlights. Love walking out to the shed just to wipe her over and keep it clean. Great review again Ross.

Awesome review Mr Ross, and way overdue for a B series V8 GT.. Not everyone loves Turbo 6s! Got myself a BA MK2 GT-P as a daily, Velocity blue with the factory white stripes and bonnet BOSS290 stickers.. Luv this car, everything about it is awesome for a 16 year old beast, especially the factory Brembos, soo good these brakes! cheers mate, luv your work !

A decent gear set changes the whole character of the car, 4.11's, headers and exhaust and it's a whole different beast. Like night and day.

Must agree with the bonnet bulge. Im a big fan of factory and sleeper look BUT when my bonnet paint peeled my mate talked me into a boss bonnet for my Xr6t. Was a great decision,looks great from inside and out.

Wow such a clean BF GT-P. Definitely needs an exhaust of some sort so that V8 can really sing, but not a too shabby car overall.

My friend is a prototype tester for Ford. Back in the day he was given an FG II GT-P with the Supercharged Miami engine in it and we had it for the weekend. I had a drive and was hooked... Even with the auto it felt way more powerful than the 335kw claimed power figure.

Another great honest review Jono, and again hats off to the owner! I have a particular soft spot for the BA GT-P, purely for the fact that I think they look good just dumped on the factory rims, which I prefer over the later models offerings! I'd love one in silver with the factory orange stripes, almost reminiscent of a silver fox XWGT! Cheers for sharing...

The FG has a chubby butt I have never abided and those in board headlights are stupid. The owners are complete tools most of the time, I give them a wide berth on the road as I just know they'll likely do something stupid and I'm rarely disappointed. I like the BF II and III standard Falcon fronts myself and am partial to the standard first BF front as well. The revised bumper improved their looks.

Prefer the FG. I have owned both but didn't like the huge distance between the rear wheel arch and arse end of the BA/F. The rear lights look average too compared the the FG.

Couldn’t of said it better myself. Love the Bf Shape especially the Gt-P and Force6/8 but 100% correct about the engine, nothing particular bad about the Boss motors but nothing super special. Sound pretty average stock and not particularly “fast”. But they’re unique and that’s what I love about them compared to the Vz HSV’s

@@BulkP3nguin Oh yeah I’ve been following him and his Gt is an absolute weapon. When I say they aren’t fast I more talking about it being stock and compared to its rivals and the fact the Typhoon is faster but in reality they’re definitely not the definition or being close to being slow

I own a BA XR8 Boss260 with the 4spd BTR ION transmission, I've never driven a ZF backed Boss motor but I imagine it would be an improvement over the BTR, especially if you were to whack in some 3:23/3:46 diff gears instead of the standard ZF backed super tall 2:7's. I also own an supercharged 5L Miami powered FPV GS and to be totally honest I prefer the sound of the Boss motor through a set of xforce pipes than the Miami through same, the deep roar of the Boss motor and it's quad cams are pretty unique sounding. I to have the "baby" 2004 260KW XR8 & while it's not in the big league GT club the engine is as strong as the day it was built, turn key reliable, comfortable & sounds like all hell breaking loose when l nail it, it still feels like a new car though it's starting to show its age now but l love it, done the usual replacement rear bushes, replaced the Auto at 189,000kms, but it's a GREAT cruiser & one of the GREAT Australian cars of all time👊🇦🇺👍

Too many wankers buying XR6 turbos. I got harassed by an absolute smartarse in an FG yesterday who rode my arse around two corners before I tried pulling over to get rid of him. He stayed behind before tearing off full ball to the next driveway. I tell you, they are Commodore drivers on steroids. I have infinitely more respect for the V8 versions.

@@RossReviewsau funnily enough my mechanic bought a GTP when new and said it was the worst car he ever bought which surprised him. I asked him why and he said it must of just been built on a Friday I guess. Basically everything broke

These cars look better with the black gt stripe down the sides. Iv got a Ba GT with every factory extra which came to about 12000 extra back in the day. Minus the brembos. With a whipple supercharger that sits under the plenum to give a stock look. And boy does' she get up and go considering the s/c with intercooler weighs around 60 kg. She goes from 80 to 180 in 7 seconds every time. I am pretty happy with that considering it's just the underrated BTR 4 speed. And she's just coming out of second with two gears still left.

I have 07 bf gt with 54,000 on it it's not the gtp version but the handling on it stock is very good I admit that alot it has that xforce exhaust it sounds fn awesome when I put my foot down I love the thing 👍

It so does mate it makes all the difference mine is cat back it's not overly loud if I did get headers and high flow cats be much louder I'll think bout it later on in the year I'm getting my zf service and pwr cooler upgrade

Still a great car does need to sound a bit more meaty but also too even thoe a lot of people say the 290 is basically an upgraded mustang motor from the 289 if I had on I'd go a 302 ci just for that good all rounder

Thats easy, speaking from experience .. I wanted my BA MK2 GT-P to sound like it looks. Genie Extractors, Full Manta twin 3" Cat back exhaust all the way to the rear with Quad 3.75" Tips. Fkn awesome sound. Manta is ONLY brand that does a full 3" twin exhaust all the way

I just sold my BF GTP for 7k :) Great car, same problem. I had an auto and stopped caring about it. Was clapped the fuck out when I sold it with 320k and everything fucked.

The whole steering Assembly is 22kg's lighter. the fg uprights are all cast aluminum.

I didn’t give it revs was just a flat foot test and also there where 3 blokes in the car 😅 but again it’s not the fastest FPV that’s for sure

These things were slow and heavy. An XR6 turbo used to blow these out of the water. Points to the owner for keeping it nice and clean.

get em in their rev range on the highway itll keep up with a stock turbo aswell! just hitting cam takes awhile, hence the sluggish 0 - 100

Ross You know the Only difference with the last 2008 GT Vs GT-P was the GT-P had brembo back brakes. I have the GT and me friend has the GT-P. We both bought them new in 2008. They have the rare Boss 302 Motor, Same bucket seats, the same interior finish same suspension components. Only difference rear brakes. we all know that 75 to 80% of performance braking is done from the front brake setup. I think this was a FPV thing to place all the good things in the GT as they where making room for the FG Series. So when you think about it the 2008 BF GT owners got more stuff for the same price Vs The GT-P owners.

Its still using retuned 90's strut and upright designs, you can take an fg with its superior merc style front end alot further. Has the owner done the bushes?

@@1meangt992 yeah I'll believe the 15 odd year old factory rubber bushes with that many k's actually feel good at all when the moon blows up 😂 Good new bushes can transform the handling tho, so don't be ashamed to admit to undergoing that essential service, we've all mostly been there.

You are missing the point the GTP is a Fairmont compared to a GT which would be a Falcon. Same car - different trim specifications.

The GT falcons have always had better interior than a base model falcon. The earlier XR-XY series GT falcons had fairmont interior as standard. The FPV series falcon GT'/ GT-P had distinctive (and unique to FPV only) cloth based interior as standard, or leather as an upgrade. Force 8/& later FG GT-E/ models came standard with Fairmont Ghia/ FG G6-E interior appointments, including red leather as a no cost option to the standard black leather for a limited range of exterior colours. In a word they are all "GreaT"

Geez a non turbo FG on 98 octane goes a bit quicker than that 0-100, l reckon those quad cammers don’t rev like an LS engine being an under square engine ie stroke larger than the bore, someone probably shoved a few spuds up the exhaust before you tested it! too quiet & too much back pressure lol but still they are damn good cars.

I'm actually surprised that it did 0 to 100 in 7 seconds. I thought it would have done it in 5.8 or 6 seconds. That said it's a beautiful car and I would love to own one.

@@sourwords1808 Thats easy, speaking from experience .. I wanted my BA MK2 GT-P to sound like it looks. Genie Extractors, Full Manta twin 3" Cat back exhaust all the way to the rear with Quad 3.75" Tips. Fkn awesome sound. Manta is ONLY brand that does a full 3" twin exhaust all the way

check out gap sauce he sure gets the boat anchor moving, 11.8 in a full body cammed, and some airflow ba gt, and chops heaps of barra turbos, cammed ls' etc

If you want an argument in order to negotiate for lower, know that the reason bf mk2’s are quite a jump in price over the mk1’s are mostly because of the turbo 6 engine having stronger internals not the v8 so the price should be closer to prior gen xr8’s around the 10-11 grand mark also k’s are relatively high but depends where it was driven

manual is appealing.. 200k is pretty normal id say now unless your gonna spend a lot! as long as it looks taken care of with good servicing.. 14 seems reasonable in todays covid times.. only think with them boss engines is timing chains i think

wheels do it no justice what so ever. looks like an f6 with those on it. I put a set of 20 inch wheels with a 75mm dish on the back. looks mint and does it justice. besides that she's nice.sorry to the owner but I just had to say something. as for the review- great stuff and it seems ford and Holden both made sure these things were quiet out of the box. such a dissapoinment and so boring. anyhow nothing an exhaust system can't fix

I suppose it depends on what you're after. If you want a drag racer, buy a Golf R or a WRX, ie something with AWD that just grips and goes. If you want a comfortable GT car that will cross vast Australian distances without so much as breaking a sweat, get a Falcon V8.
