When I was a kid in the late 70's and becoming a football fan I used to watch these short films ti learn about the history of the game. Just like James Eral Jones is the perfect voice of Darth Vader, John Facenda will always be the voice of the NFL. I'm not even a Raider fan and that poem gives me the chills, in a good way.

I am not a Raider fan, but this is truly an NFL Film classic. Although this is titled the "original" the film includes Matt Millen who wasn't a Raider until 1980 and this was originally done in 1974. The film was for the Raiders then and so it should include the team of the late 60's early 70's.

Every time I hear this I well up. Some things you just LOVE and for me it's this poem, narration and team. Been a fan since 1963 and will be till I'm no longer on this planet. The premier iconic sports franchise alongside my second favorite franchise the New York Yankees.

I met Raider Lester Hays in Henderson, Nevada at his card show in 2006 or 7. I saw the Raiders play in the LA Colossium in 1985. The Raiders are unique and have a theme that can never be equaled.

One of the most memorable narrations given by the late John Facenda was his reading of the Rudyard Kipling poem “IF,” set against film clips of NFL players enduring heavy hits and the rigors of NFL combat on the gridiron. The film included harsh weather onslaughts and unbelievably bad field conditions. I saw this many years ago and have never forgotten it.

nfl films themes are the best. The Oakland Raiders theme bar none is the best of it (coming from a 49ers fan). They better make some epic themes and soundtracks like this for the modern day themes, and get a badass narrator, like this. The NFL needs this badassery lol

The Raiders are my favorite team, not just because of their villain theme, their battle-hunger, their spirit, their struggle, the subdued colors of the silver and black, but because of their theme song 'The Autumn Wind'. Autumn is my favorite season, when the skies turn from warm cerulean to that cool cobalt. The peridot green trees turn to gold and float atop the ponds, streams, or rain puddles. The heat, the brightness, and the chaos of summer is over.... I think I could've made a good Raider if I ever got into playing football... I went outside in the middle of the night ten days ago when a silver full moon broke through black driving clouds and a strong playful breeze carried the scent of autumn in the air. I couldn't ignore it. I didn't want to. There was no sound but the chorus of leaves rustling from the tops of my birch and alder tree forest. Like a German wolf warrior of old, I grabbed my spear (yes, a spear), went out and danced on the dew-laded lawn and sat in the light of the full moon for half an hour till my skin was ice cold. I challenged evil spirits and creatures of the dark to come and fight, though non did! I thanked Our Father in Heaven for a beautiful night. For thirty minutes, The Wide World was gone. There was just me, the earth, the sky, and the autumn wind... There was nothing to fear, hate, or shame. No social norms to follow. No political control freaks. No conflicts. No rules... As I headed for the front porch, I saw a large white wolf at the mouth of the driveway and it vanished when I approached, blinked out of existence. I looked it up and found the white wolf symbolizes peace, freedom, strengthening of the spirit... Which is exactly how I had felt. The Autumn Wind is a raider. He pillages just for fun. He'll knock you around and upside down and laugh when he's conquered and won.
