I think that, thematically, the stormtroopers looking incompetent is actually essential to making the OT work. Not to say they’re hot garbage, but rather that things like corrupted command structures, the Death Star destruction, AND incompetent stormtroopers proves to the Galaxy that the Empire is vulnerable, that you can fight back… and win.
@@matthewstigall5299 I think it’s a fine take, actually! It does a great job of showing Star Wars from the perspective of the little people, the ones with no magic powers or laser swords or 10m thick plot armor

always wondered too about stormtroopers bathroom and armor cleaning.... lol new hope and sand troopers made me think of both things when i stayed in Arizona for 3 months...
I think all stormtroopers (but especially sand troopers and snow troopers!) had built-in heating and cooling in their armour/bodygloves. The actors who played them, probably not...
Stormtroopers are actually my favorite Sci-fi military force. They're actually pretty decently equipped, and had so much more potential with competent training and when not being wasted in a policing role that a PDF or local police force can perform. All this just shows that when soldiers pledge their allegiance to an individual as opposed to the society as a whole. It becomes more dangerous for everyone involved.
As a kid I was brought up on 4,5 and 6 as that’s all there was at the time. Loved Stormtroopers ever since, them and Darth Vader, they looked to coolest to me as a kid 😊
@@Glorymoon97 A high-recoil, low-accuracy carbine as the standard-issue service rifle; unpressurized armor with a narrow field of view for a space-borne expeditionary force; a fragile, pissing-range air superiority fighter with no hyperdrive or shields in the role that should belong to a medium-range multi-role strike-fighter with both by default (Which the closest thing they had to was the TIE/sa loaded with proton torpedoes, and nope) have correctly been shown in countless SW media is doing nowhere near the job. Military-first economies produce (As Allen told y'all) honestly shite material, but just produce a lot of it.
In 55 years of interest in military history, I can say I have never found a military that is comparable to the Imperial Storm Trooper Corp that did not have a significant percentage of officers that were flexible in their interpretation of regulations and orders. I have never found a military that has successfully stopped comradeship. Never underestimate the low animal cunning of the common soldier and their determination to have comradeship. The most determined stormtroopers will defeat the system and develop their own version comradeship that would work for them even if it would not make sense to us. But the more I know the more I discover how little I know, so I could be very wrong.
I think this why American troops stay a little more balanced in combat. Sure some folks kinda loose it, but by and large we police ourselves, don't let things go to far, we solve problems at the lowest level possible. We don't need officers telling us what to do, in fact we could go days without seeing them. If you have a unit where officers are demanding the enlisted to do immoral things, it can get ugly fast. So we would hear units from western Europe on the radio calling for assistance because they lost their officer. The enlisted can't make decisions. They got really excited when they heard Americans Roger up; "Sit tight, we're on our way!" Anyone else either won't or they negotiate for something in return, yanks don't do that. If we're not on a critical mission, we're gonna help. I always thought that was such a bizarre thing to not have sr enlisted making decisions.
@@charlescowan6121 While what your saying is true for the most part, there's so many soldiers that are arrested for refusing orders. I agree its good to question orders and over time our military has improved on that front, it doesn't stop for corrupted military leaders having soldiers dishonorably discharged and put in jail for refusing a super questionable order. Our military right now is seeing bottom level recruitment with no major incentive to join. Our military for a short time in 2020-2022 focused on diversity training as leaked by many soldiers and higher ups. Also the treatment of veterans and their healthcare is treated like crap. There's a reason about one third of our homeless are veterans and don't know how to cope with PTSD in a healthy way. If people saw the veterans getting the best healthcare possible, and helped reintroduced to life, got paid more and get a huge tax reduction, we may see massive improvements to our military. I fully support anyone who wants to serve and protect America and our Allies. Its just super disorganized right now. A guy I worked with was a Desert STorm veteran. You can tell he was still on edge despite how friendly and kind he was.
Great vid. Would love to hear more of this kind of stuff. I love the stories from everyday people. Sure the important people at the top are cool but i can really relate to the everyday guy.
I keep hearing and reading about the helmet-mounted displays and other tech within the Imperial Stormtrooper armour. It's a shame we don't get to see the POVs from first-person shooters (like in the Halo games for the Spartans' and ODSTs' helmets and the Republic Commando game for the Clone Commandos' helmets) where players get to play as Imperial Stormtroopers and see examples of the mentioned tech from the first-person shooter perspective. From the descriptions, it sounds like plastoid armour functions analogously to real-world ballistic soft armour (like Kevlar) and hard-plate ceramic composite armour, i.e. they take the brunt of the damage. However, the wearer might still get nasty bruises and maybe some cracked ribs at worst, with both types of body armour materials needing to be replaced after the hits.
Thank you for mentioning "Twilight Company". In the way you were starting to describe it and then mentioned it.. I immediately paused thus stream and found that my library system had an 'unabridged' audio copy and downloaded it and just finished listening to it.. and now continuing the stream. It's a very well done book. Thank you again, and thank you for creating and sharing these videos. Benevolent wishes to you and yours in regards to the rest of the year, and current and future endeavors.
Letting you know, your discussion and content on Acolyte is why I subbed. Loved your interpretation of the show, your interpretation of current events in Star Wars and the wider realm of politics as well. I feel like you put a lot of my own thoughts into words on a platform when I was signing out of Star Wars fan groups all over due to toxicity in the fanbase . . . Anyway, I highly respect you and what you are doing. Just read an article on why Darth Vader is so calm and Anakin Skywalker was not. I don't even know if I agree with that statement. What do you think? Content idea if you needed one.
As someone with suit of Stormtrooper armor it is impossible to put in on in less than a minute. Lucky if you can get the boots on in less than a minute.
If you haven’t done a video on it yet, could you do one on the creation/manufacturing of the Death Star? I was just wondering if Palpatine started the war to hide the fact that he was building the Death Star?
I love watching the informative videos you upload on Star Wars. I have always liked the idea of why things are done and how they work. Watching your info-doc on Stormtroopers is another feather in your cap of great videos. May the Force be with You.
I imagine that being a stormtrooper from Sullust had more drawbacks than most people realize. For starters, there was a large population of Alderaanians living on the planet of Sullust when the planet of Alderaan itself was destroyed by the Empire, so there would then be a large population of anti-imperials on the planet, both Alderaanian and natural born Sullustans who were friends and even family of the Alderaanians. In addition to this threat to anyone wearing a stormtrooper uniform, the planet was inhabited by large subterranean creatures called "rockrenders" that could burrow quickly through the planet's hard rock surface and preferred to eat materials rich in minerals such as stormtrooper armor as opposed to plain human/humanoid flesh. (This information from the "Princess Leia" comic book series.) (edit: planet identity clarification fix)
Given all the brainwashing they apparently go through, that fearlessness is probably more of a lack of any self-preservation instincts that bravery. It's probably also better to die in battle than risk annoying Lord Vader or another higher-up.
It is an neat bit of story telling that, as things get uglier and the conflict intensifies, SP475's armor gets dirtier and more scuffed. That borrows from Sam Peckinpah's Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia (1974) and that is a great call back.
My favorite is the storm troopers in the Bad Batch. They’ve been at the job for only a few weeks and are suddenly getting taken out by clone commando’s with a vendetta 😂
It’s very coincidental how my recent RU-vid watch history went from “The Hero who Stood Up to the Mai Lai Massacre (1968)” by Simple History to “A Day in the Life of a Stormtrooper” by Generation Tech.
We really need a series that showcases the stormtrooper corps as the central focus of the show just regular people doing a job and fighting a war no one likes. Make it like the Pacific or generation kill

fun little fact, the isb had their own storm trooper squads. they did some HORRIBLE things. but because they looked like regular storm troopers, the civilians couldn't tell the difference. it gave the rebels some great propaganda.
I'm glad stormtroopers remained an important and developed part of star wars lore. Created to fulfill the 'evil faceless enemy' role, they are, unlike battledroids, still human on the inside.
I always saw the stormtroopers as more of an option of rankup for the average imperial soldier. they rank up to show they are dedicated to the empires regime. At least thats my headcanon lol.

A lot of people would do well to consider groupthink in the context of real-world politics. I can only speak to America of course, but here there's this notion that "I'm only voting for politician A because of issue(s) X, Y, and/or Z, so I'm not responsible for whatever else they do." People will vote a certain way but feel it's completely unfair to be judged by their party, or the judges their party appoints, or other things the party does. And I'm not talking about some one-off mistake where you voted for someone who turned out to be completely different than expected. I'm talking about voting for people who stand for very specific terrible things, consistently, over years, and yet somehow thinking you're not responsible for those terrible things when they happen.
Yes. Anakin thought he was helping to bring balance and peace. To stop all the warring. In his mind he was doing good though the dark side. Kinda like a fine line between genius and insane.
We're all monsters. No one is innocent. No one. Sidious understands this. Vader does. As does Yoda and Luke. They get it better. Jedi on a whole? Too busy trying to claim some deluded moral high ground that doesn't even exist. Anakin learned that the hard way. Think Obi Won let himself get killed because he couldn't live knowing he was a coward? He knows he failed Anakin/Vader after all.
@@knightmare5097 I mean yeah, every time we see them they are fighting the main characters and failing miserably. But when they aren’t fighting main characters with plot armour we hear of how everyone’s scared of them etc
I never understood the pathology behind why movies make the henchmen of the villain appear as mistreated and poorly and then cut to the main character brutally murdering them in droves as if they deserve it and they aren't human beings who've been placed into a rough situation
a cop show with storm troopers on the lower levels of the Coruscant dealing with rebels. this show should give both perspectives but the main character will be a storm trooper.
So those stormtroopers who were talking about that new BT-16 while guarding the tractor beam on the Death Star, were actually taking a huge risk and might get into alot of trouble for it..?
I watched this entire video. It gave me nightmares of my past, back when I was a conscript in the stormtrooper corps for the money. I quickly learned the Empire is evil. I believe in democracy and the Republic. I, am Generation Tech.
What is the point of standardized body armor, if said armor can not stop small-arms fire from low powered weapons ( example: handheld blasters ) ? Since it is cannon the Galactic Empire had severe financial problems, wouldn't it be cheaper just to issue standard cloth uniforms with a helmet?
Her armor protected her several times, once when she was hit by a sniper bolt and when she was protected from the explosion. So it's not useless; without the armor she would have died twice.
@@spoktv3343 It is called "plot armor" :) In the movies and television shows over the years, a storm trooper can easily be killed by a single blaster shot.
Depends on why people wear the mask. If you hide behind it to use it as an excuse to avoid accountability then the statement is false. This would be a concern for Jonah Jameson when it comes to Spiderman.
@taramaforhaikido7272 Anonymity significantly reduces your accountability as the only person you have to answer to is yourself. 4Chan is a great example of this. Many users are anonymous, and they act differently than if they were not anonymous.
