Gotta say, you gave this a better (honest) review compared to other RU-vid disc reviews. You said (and showed) what you liked and didn't. And, yeah, on a real course, more than once. If every reviewer actually threw this many "test shots" with this much variety, I think every player would better understand what they might want to buy or try. I've been throwing plastic longer than you've been alive, and yeah, my arm speed isn't yours (not for the last 20 years, anyway), so I'm not sure exactly how useful the review was for me, but if all reviews were like this, that would be great.
would much rather watch somone learn how to throw a new disc from the ground up rather than any other disc review. Keep these videos up I want to see more of this.
It has to be mentioned that throwing an understable disc softer is going to make it more stable. The turn number is literally representing high speed stability. The more speed, the more turn, and as a 6.5 speed disc, if you really crank on it it's never going coming out of its turn even for an average 300-350' thrower. I feel like you judged this thing as a 9 or 10 speed based on your surprise at how it behaved.
Slower arm speed here. The crave is super useful for me off the tee in the woods. Max speed I throw is 11. So a 6 speed fairway has a spot in my bag. And yes love videos like this too
I sort of like the "Your so stoopid for throwing this" videos... but they were getting to be the same ol same ol... THIS video I like... You actually did a review that was helpful... Not some 500ft'er on a bad day throwing in perfect weather with perfect technique (tho I'm sure it's a foot deep on their cutting room floor). I have a Axiom Crave... infact thanks to me Disc Bank (he buys far too many pretty discs then decides he doesn't want lots of them).. I have a Sarah Hokom one... Your "Style" of throwing works with the video... You don't like wind (who does) but proceeded to throw & film... And we HAVE to throw in wind (especially here in thw wind capital of the world Wellington NZ.. You then went on to point out something you found (with your 'style') that slowing down made the disc more of an S... I got the Crave to fill a slower straight line that my SPZ3 sits above (That thing (with MY 'style') goes dead straight about 250-300 ft only 5ft off the ground)... But throwing the Crave hard was fine, when slowing down, I found it annoyingly flippy... NOW I'm going to head back out and have a play and see if (since that's what they seem to do) I can use that. I had 10ish discs for 3 years and only just upped that to carrying 20 (ok so I had most of them but added a few gaps.. including over disking with a Catalyst that although above my arm's paygrade, allows a very stable 300ft straight that can hold a hyzer/Anhyzer the full distance (so fits the slot just above my SPZ3..) and on a good day gives my max.. although the WIDE rim of the catalyst does lead to early pull outs (at least that's what she said) unless I focus on grip locking and letting it rip out rather tan my sort of 'relax at the right point release). I agree that most reviewers seem to gloss over anything outside the designed flight pattern... If I was going to review a disc (Frankly Disc reviews Videos are low on my list as... it's not me throwing them so it won't b the same.. and 'What's in my bag' is way at the bottom because.. who gives a flying uhhh piece of plastic what disc someone somewhere else throws... I have method to my selection, and I bet they have something different)... mmm where wuzi... oh yeah... if I was going to do a disc review (hey u never know.. I did lots of MTB track reviews)... I would throw that sucker every way I could.. and see what actual use a disc is in a bag for people like me that have a few discs, and throw them in multiple ways to fill gaps.. eg, My swamp find Tesla, Its dead flat, Rolls like Sonic the hedgehog, flies straight only to remember "holly U-Turn I almost forgot to fade" and rips off a near right angle finish, and on slower anhyzers it slots through staggered trees.. oh and it skips like a school kid. Unlike my 'broken' RPM Kotere that will fade out when thrown as hard as I can on 45deg Anhyzer in a galeforce wind. (It never fails to impress.. no one has managed to turn it over. man I talk too much...
I bag 3 of them. It’s a 6.5/5/-1/1 stop trying to throw it like it’s over stable or under stable. If you over throw it expect turn, under throw it expect fade. Once you dial it in it becomes a weapon in your bag!
Pretty much agree with everything u said. I picked one up for those tunnel shots in the 300ft range, and I gotta remind myself to throw at like 75% power otherwise it turns forever. But it is also good for long turnovers. Probably should have gotten Cosmic Neutron instead of Fission. I originally got a River for that slot, but I couldn't throw it for shit. Rim felt weird to me and kept getting horrible releases out of my hand.
Yea Idk bout this disc either. +1 halo grooooove tho! I'm one of the weirdos that random bought a groove back when it came out, and just learned how to throw with it. Then, I lost it last month after a solid 15+ yrs... To my surprise, the halo groove happens to appear. Alriiiiight.
Crave is probably my favorite disc of all time. I throw about 320' max. First one I got was cosmic neutron, board flat, neutral with a touch of stability and i fell in love. Still use it every round. I picked up an Eclipse and a neutron crave and both fly nothing like the Cosmic. Both are too domey and have no stability. If you are getting a Crave, go with the Cosmic.
So I got scammed when moving to Texas and joined the lone star team. Not much has stayed in the bag but I will say they do make SOME decent plastic. Give the mad cat and the mockingbird a chance. Mad cat is like a Sexton Firebird and mockingbird is like a leapord 3
MVP's Neutron feels really great and has a great grip for me. You need to try the Crave in Fission, Proton, and Plasma. I currently bag a Fission Crave that is money.
100% most people that review discs are have shit form. Even worse, i play in denver and most of them are a bit not too helpful due to stability differences.
