August 1521: Spain’s victory over the Aztec begins colonization of Mexico, but Aztec culture will survive for centuries through preservation and practice. Aztec codices-16th-century “Rosetta Stones” that preserved Aztec language and deeds-laid a foundation that scholars are building on today as Aztec culture is woven into A.I.

Mexicas were defeated not only with artillery, spanish canons were only a few. It was a european war model to surround a city, cut water and make weaker the enemy. Cortés was smart enough to add to his army thousands of enemies of the mexicas, Tlaxcala, Cholula, etc. Cortés also built many ships (bergantines) to fight small mexica canoes. It was a whole war strategy, not only Fire canons.

@@zuam7645 they had fresh water from outside to drink. They were Mexicas, not Asteks, that name is a nineteen century invention.

could you expand, to give a fuller picture, on those alliances with "various indigenous groups." Groups which would have had an interest in taking over after the war. A reason maybe to accompany those which attempt to explain the decline of the Aztecs postCortez.. from a socioeconomic and political perspective.

I love seeing Europeans saying the Aztecs were evil without knowing any of their history or beliefs…

I mean the Europeans at the time were evil as well but sacrificing hundreds of people in such a brutal fashion is kind of evil no matter which way you look at it

@@sr.iluminado8606 never said gladiatorial combat wasn't evil. The Aztecs had sacrificial gladiatorial combat as well, I'm not even saying the Aztecs were worse than the Europeans, I'm just saying human sacrifice is objectively evil
@sr.iluminado8606
@sr.iluminado8606 2 года назад
@@italiansoldierfromww2460 Don't worry, in ancient times everyone killed each other, you knew that in the city of Tenochtitlan there were fighting something similar to gladiatorial combats, the Tizoc stone served as a platform for the 2 fighters, one was the slave and the other was a low-ranking soldier If the slave eliminated the soldier, they would assign him to another soldier of a more experienced rank. The gladiator platform was called "Temalácatl".
