2024 baby my mom got me hooked on this album when I was about 5 or 6 I'm in my older 40s now & still love this album as much as I did when I 1st heard it 💕💕
+robert smith I'm a man and I do the same thing (keyboard, Kate vocals) for this song with my band. It's actually not that hard since the synth and vocals are in sync with each other.
Well this song in particular isn't that difficult, but the synchro is still pretty demanding. Some B-52's songs have really impressing keys thanks to Kate.
This clip really shows Fred's mastery of the difficult and demanding subtleties of the walkie-talkie. He spent several years at the elite Acadame' de Instruments Electronique in Paris perfecting his button technique.
Simply brilliant tune. Excellent retro guitar work, stripped down sound, great drumming, funky synth riffs, and tapping into that whole 60s go-go scene meets the B-movie flying saucer genre was just so inspired. But behind it all, the music's super-tight execution, cool beats, and down-right fun dancability made them one of the best live acts I ever saw, back around 1980. And the album's crisp mix made it so cool to hear on a great stereo. As good as they were live, seeing a whole bar filled with people dancing their hearts out to this tune was so much fun!
Rock lobster; I guess it was part of my generations desire to emulate the 1960's somehow. I hope later generations can appreciate the sheer joy of some of these songs.
Watching Fred get down, makes me want to do the Mesopotamia Dance! Saw these guys THREE times in their prime, with Ricky Wilson (R.I.P.). I will never stop listening to the 52's.!!!! I'm 54 years old--but this puts me in The Way Back Machine!
Simply the best song ever and the best performing rock band ever. saw them in concert twice in Atlanta in the 90's. Absolutely smashing! no-one has ever reached that level of rhythm and craziness.
I agree and disagree, these guys are absolutely godlike but fleetwood mac and blondie have also got the same magic to them. not the same but something unique and it gets pretty crazy
The woman playing the keyboard is Kate Pierson and, yes, she's married. To a woman. Named Monica Coleman. That qualifies her as "gay" in most textbooks. LOL
On the beach in South Boston and the cape we lived this band.. .it was an amazing summer and so young it was the best time looking back..all B52 songs are great but my go too is Planet Claire.
This group is such a great time to see in person live in front of hundreds of people at Saenger theater in New Orleans Louisiana. My wife and I flew down there Sunday morning after buying tickets months ahead and boy we were not disappointed. Berlin followed by OMD and then the cap off tonight watching listening and dancing to the B-52's. Their Encore performance was this song Planet Claire and then the final song was Rock Lobster with a dancing inflatable Red Lobster with LED lights flashing im it's antenna!!!! It was Earth every penny Hotel Airline flight Uber ride to and from the airport to enjoy this band of renown.
This was one of the most under rated bands of the late 70's early 80's. I think because they didn't take themselves or the music too seriously people were put off. I remember when "Rock Lobster" came out in '79 or early '80 it was the dance song at every party senior year. Fun band, unique.
Saw these guys in 79 (if memory is correct). They played Brown Alumni Center in Providence RI. Opened with Planet Claire....they were hot....pistol hot. Saw a lot of great bands in small venues back around then...The Motels, Elvis Costello right after My Aim Is True, Gang of Four, The Dead Boys, The Ramones etc etc etc. It was a great time to be alive kids.
Aha thats amazing because i thought that too, just got this song on record and decided to watch a live performance, only difference between is it didn't take me that long old timer lol, internets all bad! at least the groove is all the better on the song
Wonderfully surreal -the B52s landed somewhere grey and seasidy in the UK. The guy in orange trousers gives some great moves. Yes and what a shame to cut them short.
+Michael S. Thomas True, in this case, I do believe that it was due to the interruption. Girl from Ipanema..Goes to Greenland, song and not the video has no thumbs down. if you want to check that out.
"Planet Claire has pink air. All the trees are red. No one ever dies there. No one has head." I wrote those lyrics on a note to a psych professor in college just to mess with his head.
That voice combined with keyboard is really quite incredible. To bad this stupid useless show had to cut it off with a bunch of crap nonsense no one wanted to see or hear!
When I was a kid my parents used to play B-52's all the time-I reealllyy liked them so they bought me the John Goodman Flintstones soundtrack cause the B-52s played a song on there. They changed their name to BC-52's for that album. So awesome.
I have watched this before, but never paid attention to where it was filmed. It's in Plymouth, England where I live lol. Cant remember the name of the tv show though. Found out it was 11th July 1987 on a kids tv show called Get Fresh.
as i grew up as an 80's kid i remember this it was a programme on itv on saturday morning's called get fresh great at the time for kid's of our generation packed with music cartoons interview's.
Yeah man beehives and everything where did you find this clip..Ive seen heaps of the b 52s clips of this song but i have never seen this one..Oh fuck ..just saw the mullet head thats bad man but enjoyed it up till then Cheers
its ok man....because he's going to have to live it....being the asshole who cut in on the b52's to sell friggin Golden Syrup...i hope it keeps him up at night even now.
