@@RosemaryBo1991a slime tutorial in this context is usually a way of saying a free version/bootleg (??) of a musical or show usually uploaded on youtube- named a slime tutorial so the reuploads dont get taken down as easily
They did amazing! I like how they made use of a limited stage by really exaggerating Jane's unnatural movements. The ropes were cool too, really adds another level to how Emily Rohm imagines that Penny comes from an abusive home life. Even in the afterlife she can't escape the neglect, and so her body was never claimed. The singer did a great job and they have an incredible voice!
@@RosemaryBo1991 Thank you! I just like to think about how changes to accommodate a different performance than the original can be thought about in terms of character depth.
Emily isn't exactly wrong in that interpretation. Penny used to live in a hippy cult that was a drug ring and then then the place got busted up, they lived in Saint Cassian where she was abused by both students and teachers. (I read the entire Legoland script)
legoland is a play written by the creators of ride the cyclone and meant to be the predecessor to rtc. it focuses on penny and her little brother, ezra. the script is a good read!
I love all the different versions of Jane doe. I’ve seen one where she flies, one where she spins on one of those knife throwing wheels, and multiple where she is pulled on strings like a puppet. So cool and creative
Holy shit, that choreography. The way Jane was struggling against the ropes, and the moment where they tried to crawl away was downright spooky. I’m so used to seeing Emily Romm (Rohm?) floating through the void. Ride the Cyclone’s playing in Rapid City, can’t wait to see how they choreographed this song.
fun fact about this show, the set dressing is signage from joyland, a now closed amusement park that was in wichita. it has its own little history of not taking kindly to people's necks :)
That’s so cool! I love when rtc productions include local theme park stuff. In a Colorado production the set is the entrance to the Cyclone roller coaster in Denver that is fameous for people frequently getting injured and dying on
this is SUCH a fucking killer performance, the vocalist is SO DAMN TALENTED and singing like that while throwing urself around like a ragdoll?? absolute talent. this version's choreo and interpretation is so awesome too!! the strings controlling them like a puppet was genius, looked so so cool, especially when they all started turning and going side to side. goosebumps!!
Oh my gosh I just live different theaters takes on Jane!! The way the performance is so uniquely inhuman is really prevalent here. The marionette motif really speaks to how hollow Jane is while having no soul, or rather, having no memories of the soul that once inhabited her. The symbolism almost doubles as being a shell of a person. Just a wonderful portrayal of the character! You love to see it 🩷🩷🩷
her anguish really shines through here, and I love the decision to make her doll-like movements more reminiscent of a wind up toy or puppet than of a plastic doll
i love the ending- when everyone leaves and they are alone on the ropes it's as if everyone has given up hope of finding out who jane doe really is. They did such a good job, the raw emotion is incredible!!
I remember seeings Dex’s grwm video on tiktok and how they interpreted Jane as a marionette (hence the strings/ropes) and it all came to life so beautifully
Thier movements are so eerily unnatural, like a claymation character! And even while moving like that they still sounded so beautiful when they sang, even when hunched over! They kept a good air flow, and thier voice never got lost or strained!
Are they secretly Emily Rohm? Because they're just perfect lol. They have an amazing voice. They might not be flying through the air, but acting like they're a doll on strings is just amazing. A few little fumbles here and there, but otherwise beyond amazing.
oughgh this is so cool, to me it really emphasizes the dichotomy of jane's character: she isn't really human, with no identity or memory or anyone to remember her. but she's also desperate to be the human she once must have been. the performer here really brings out jane's desperation and anguish, which i love in contrast with the alien and jarring movements. really really good
their voice is absolutely insane??? i LOVEEE this jane definitely more than any other jane i’ve ever seen. also i feel like the ropes are so much more powerful visually and story wise and almost brought me to tears. and how the hell does their voice stay crystal clear while theyre being whipped around like that?? this performance is bonkers in the best way
dex is super nice! i used to go to a high school in the wichita area and our director was a friend of roxy’s downtown theater, and dex came to a rehearsal of our fall musical to help our costumes crew out with wigs and makeup! they’re legit incredible with everything they do!!
They honestly did such a good job, I've been coming back to this video for a week straight each day now. The chilling vocals, the raw emotion, the perfect co-ordination of the rope scene, the hopeless collapse to the ground, the general uncanny feel to their movement yet still perfectly smooth.
I’m blown away by the singers talent! They really made Jane into their own character! Emily Rhoms Jane sang in an (in my interpretation) defeated way, likes she’s long been resigned to her fate and is wearied by it. Dex O’Neals version is sad but also, in a way, desperate. O’Neals voice made her seem horrified of it, while Rhoms made her seem confident in it. I love when actors add their own spin on a character, whether by accident or not!
okay, someone explain to me how this is possibly the most amazing rendition of this song i've ever heard???? are they secretly emily rohm??? how are they so great??? props to these guys for putting on such an amazing show!!!
I love hearing everyone’s takes on the ballad of Jane doe. I like this one because she didn’t stick to the original melody, many of her notes were different and I absolutely love it because in a way the different pitches made it even more haunting and eerie. They absolutely killed this performance ✨💯💯
I love the decisions that y’all made this for the scene, and Dex did a fantastic job! 💚💚💚 They’re vocals matched Emily Rohm’s so well I thought maybe a recording of Emily Rohm’s voice was being used at first lol XD TLDR: Y’all did an amazing job of capturing Jane’s (accurate) feelings of lack of control over her situation and other feelings that she has that is key to this song. Conveying things to the extent you did can be very difficult for productions to pull off, so even more Kudos to y’all! I love the use of the strings, because I feel like it shows that Jane feels bound to her fate of being a Jane Doe even as she’s trying to resist it. And there’s something about the way some of the rope-handlers, who may have been representing fate (or god) itself, were acting during that section, there was almost a cruelty to it, matching Jane’s perspective on her fate. I feel like there’s more that could be said, but all I can’t quite put it into words.
The way my jaw fell to the floor so many times during this- Absolutely fantastic job!!! This rendition is definitely one of my favorites of all time, they killed it!!
CHILLS ABSOLUTE CHILLS!!! THE WAY THEY MAKE JANE’S MOVEMENTS EXAGGERATED!!! HOW THEY STRUGGLE AGAINST THE ROPES!!! OH MY GOD THIS IS SO AMAZING!!! THE LIGHTING AND HOW IT HELPS TELL THE STORY!!! PROPS TO THE ACTORS AND CHOREOGRAPHERS AND CREW!!!
i love how you can hear the pain in her voice, dex did an amazing job playing jane! they did phenomenal, bravo. it takes alot of talent to get that emotion out in song 👏👏
i dont think there will ever be a performance of the ballad of jane doe that will make me NOT cry like a damn baby. their performance was just amazing.
this is so amazing, i’m always astonished on how high an actor playing jane can go and how strong their voice is and this one isn’t any different! their singing is beautiful

The person preforming is also the one singing? What a lovely voice, I didn't really even know what vid i clicked on but was captivated the entire time damn
Woah, woah - in love with the choreography and use of ropes! And what a voice they have, seriously, bravo. The acting, movements, singing and use of lightning and props was just so good. It's really cool to see the doll/marionette-aspects and hollowness of Jane who lacks her identity is being emphazised in this edition. One of the first performances I've seen that I feel is on par with the original (not that there aren't other excellent performances, Emily Rohm just made a performance there was almost impossibly hard to follow)
Jaw dropped...!! This is incredible, the person who acted Jane is so so incredibly talented?? Being able to sing like that while being tied and pulled around like a puppet - and also when they tied the neck as well, how they jerked this person and the fact that they sang perfectly as that was happening!!! Incredible
i saw this live for my birthday last year, met the actor for Jane Doe (and got a picture) and it was absolutely BREATHTAKING and spectacular my videos i took (sorry laws) are my prized possessions
This was a heartbreaking performance. Seeing her struggle against the ropes truly shows how badly she wants to live. This is 100% my favourite Jane next to Emily Rohm.
