We spend so much time going through tunnels and forts and bunkers, did you ever wonder what they would look like if completely uncovered?
Well that is where we are going on this trip, one of the great forts around Liege a fighting fort of the first world war, and the HQ for King Leopold II during the second.
Sadly it was preserved as a prison during WW2 but at least it was preserved and it in a most interesting way.
I hope you enjoy my documentaries, shows and in-depth profiles, should you feel like supporting my work you can follow me on Patreon www.patreon.co... and the company website lostbattlefields.com

I come past Breendonk at least twice a week in the middle of the night in my truck. So nice to see it all in daylight. And it is Belgian resistance of course.

I was there while in Europe when I was about 14, about 50 years ago. My friend and I were driven by his uncle to Breendonk from Brussels in the late afternoon. I'll never forget the deep mist that covered the ground or the profound sadness knowing the blood of the tortured and murdered soaked the ground I walked on in the courtyard.

This is super interesting. I have been very interested in the forts of the 1880s through WW2, especially the system style forts.

Loved this episode, full of pre and post WW2 Fort history all in one! I do miss watching yr episodes a lot but the hour or 2 hour long one's I just struggle to find that spare time too 😢 If you could possibly consider breaking them down to say 30 minutes you'd get more from the algorithms I believe? Sorry for the long winded comment but I do love watching yr channel as its one of the best WW2 history ones I've found too date👌 And keep up the amazing work Tino 👌

In the powder room converted into the interrogation room, there was a large hook left hanging from the ceiling I suppose from before when it was a powder room. I'm guessing they kept that in there as a "tool" of interrogation. Yikes! Doesn't look like a place anyone would want to hang around in! LOL! Seriously though I bet it was a horrible place to be imprisoned. Great video. Stay well on your travels. -Wil 👍

In the Uk forts Rowner and Grange, both still in government hands. were built in the 1850's+ are great examples of this, both built very similar but, one stripped of the earth embracements and the other to get overgrown.

In Belgium there is a better underground fort ( fort Eben- Emael). It's one of the largest underground fort. This fort served in ww1 & ww2. In ww2 there were some heavy fights against the german fallschirmjägers in and outside the fort.

I'm sorry, my english is not very good. Thank you so much for all. Respect ✌️✨☀️🇧🇪

Nobody escaped from the prison however everybody was evacuated in lieu of the allies arrival at the site they went to various camps in the east in 1944 many of them did not survive that for certainly there were survivors after the war
