I have removed the Aisling Duval invite links due to the server being hostile. You are more than welcome to find it yourself.
This is another tutorial that goes along with this video that heavier on text and meant more to be read: docs.google.com/presentation/...
Special thanks to the variety of sources (Veteran AD CMDRs, various Elite-related reddits, Frontier forums) that I used to create this guide.
Extra note: I'm aware of videos that will tell you to prepare random systems to gain Powerplay merits. This, as noted, is not beneficial to Aisling Duval. If you are module shopping, it is recommended that you FORTIFY one of the Control Systems near HQ. Even if you overfortify you won't damage our systems, so it's OK.
This is the first video I've made from my laptop. I don't have Sony Vegas on this laptop because it was never meant to be a video editing laptop. However, I did decide to make this guide for my friends in the Aisling Duval Comms. Video quality may vary

Probably one of the best videos I've seen explaining the overall concept ( and not just how to get an equipment or weapon module ) I've been playing the game for years, but never really got involved with power play, or understood it. I guess the other noob question I would add to the pile is: Beyond the module, and cash is there any real benefit to players in helping a power succeed? I can't help but be reminded of 1984 and the perpetual war that exists between the 3 super powers.
@richardfrederick6009
@richardfrederick6009 3 года назад
Glad you found it useful! Beyond the cash is already an ehhhhhhhh proposition. Maybe in the past the credits would've been worth more but scaled to today the credits you get from undermining / paycheck are really really small. The common hypothesis is that FDev wanted Powerplay to be a credit sink as a means of showing personal investment or something to that effect. Benefits to helping a power succeed.... good question. As far as the game goes, there are effects to powers exploiting systems. I skip this page in the advanced guide but if you look at Aisling Duval's page when she exploits a system it leads to an increase in security and the product of high value goods iirc. Realistically though, powerplay is more of a community thing so the only benefits you really get out of it are what you get out of being part of a community and helping a community succeed. If you're a solo player you probably don't notice the difference. But if you're the one putting in the time and effort to achieve change, you'll get that warm fuzzy feeling.

The slides really helped explain things, good job CMDR. Unfortunately a significant portion of PP players are there for the module and the easiest way of getting those Merits is by a fortification run to the nearest control.

@@truta3715 It’s an open game, at the end of the day technically EVERYHING you do is senseless, you are one of those that think “the goal” is to find the exploit of the day to have more money, for what? To buy bigger ships? For what you want more and bigger ships? To have earn more money.. technically a logic “loop” without sense at the end….answering your question it gives you a goal to do, a common goal with others, and you don’t even need to play open or have a squadron, you can do stuff at your time, even play solo; join to the power you like find a group and check their goals, what they want is required to do for your power, even when ATM is a bit shallow and simple, they say they are going to improve it next year, I hope they just not add more gimmicks as a reward, to attract more random players.

QUESTION: So the ranking in the menu is not important, I get the point getting more systems in a silly way is not important either, but then, so how can you determine “measure” how well is doing your power? what’s the “goal” of all if the ranking nor the number of systems is important? What the “leader” of the powers of these Discord groups want to achieve to “improve” their faction?
@richardfrederick6009
@richardfrederick6009 3 года назад
We measure success via economy. AD operates a positive economy. Therefore it's very difficult to force AD to shed control systems. We always have tons of CC for defense for several cycles. Your goal as a coordinator would be to turn your economy into a net positive one and expand wisely. Though there are some reasons to make not so wise expansions which would be in the advanced guide I haven't made yet. What's the point of it all? To the overall game, there is no point. To powerplay players, well it's different for all of us I guess. For me, it's about the series of small actions made by each CMDR that adds up to the major successes. To me, that makes ED more than just a timesink.

@@richardfrederick6009 Thank you for the reply, BTW Good video explaining the mechanics, i am there for RP and “cooperate” for the faction like i said in other comment, I wanted to know the mechanics you explained well, there are a lot of video tutorials about Powerplay, but 90% of them are just to unlock modules fast not caring too much about powerplay itself.

Thanks for the guide. I am getting around to Powerplay but stuff needs doing first - almost a seeming never ending list. Having listened to you, am I right in thinking it would be wise to have a large hauler? At least for Ms. Duval anyway.
@richardfrederick6009
@richardfrederick6009 4 года назад
I'm glad it helps you! So the deal with Princess Aisling Duval is that ALL of her methods of CS management are hauling activities. Fortification: Hauling Preparation: Hauling Expansion: Hauling So if you have a good hauler (typically a cutter or a python) you can do a lot of groundwork with the actual systems themselves. That said, there are other ways you can help Princess Aisling Duval. Do you like shooting stuff? Help lower fortification costs or oppose weaponized expansions (dw what those mean if you don't know, next PP vid) by shooting the right things. Like exploration? By selling your exploration data at choice stations, you can again, help lower fortification costs (again, next PP vid will cover this)

Glad you liked it! After a while it becomes easier, promise ; ) If nothing else, take these lessons if you're pledged to AD 1. Vote consolidation 2. Follow the Trello 3. Expansions aren't always good 4. Turmoil isn't always bad. If you're pledged to other powers, 3 and 4 will do. It's up to your power's coordination as to when/where to expand and whatnot.

@richardfrederick6009
@richardfrederick6009 3 года назад
It doesn't matter in general. I recommend joining powers ASAP so you can burn time towards the powerplay modules. 4 cycles and rank 3 for whatever module they have. At Aisling, we have prismatic shields

@@richardfrederick6009 thats good to know. Thanks for answering so quickly. Definitely got a like and sub from me. Most vids ive seen on power play are just about the modules and you explained everything well enough for my peanut brain to understand. Lol.
@richardfrederick6009
@richardfrederick6009 3 года назад
@@dizzyallen1481 Yeah no problem. I can understand why they do that. Thing is, outside the modules, powerplay, while having in-game consequences, can generally be ignored. Broadly speaking it's more of a roleplay element. But it's a community effort that I appreciate and these are the rules we're playing by in this giant game of risk.

I am still confused about where to bring the info once I load it. What screens do you go to ?
@richardfrederick6009
@richardfrederick6009 3 года назад
Whether you're fortifying, preparing, expanding, undermining, or opposing and you are dropping off materials, you will always go to: 1. Station Services 2. Contacts 3. Power Contact After that, it depends on what you're doing but if you're fortifying / preparing / expanding there will be a little thing to deliver a set number of materials. When fortifying you should always do the "One-ton test". Drop only 1 ton of materials so your UI updates and you'll see progress on that confirmation page. Preparation and expansion (which we very rarely do in AD) you just dump everything and get more materials. If you're undermining / opposing you just turn in all merits at once at this screen. I haven't done umop in a while but I believe on the screen, it's listed as a system (that won't be the system you're currently in). You can track whether or not you have umop merits from your transactions tab and it'll say something like "Merits for OOOO" with the OOOO being the power you're undermining or opposing. These types of merits can only be turned in at your power's Control Systems though, so make sure you're in the correct system. One thing to keep in mind is that umop merits do not take up cargo space, so you can deliver as many of those as you feel like farming up. Undermining past 100% does nothing though.

@richardfrederick6009

I'm not sure what you mean by control packages. Aisling Programme materials go to control systems to fortify them. Aisling media materials go to a completely new system for preparation.

@@richardfrederick6009 Felicia winters does everything with packages, preparing packages, control packages, and fortify packages. What do I do with control? I deliver to where? :D
@richardfrederick6009
@richardfrederick6009 3 года назад
@@Youshisu Yes, Felicia Winters is a hauling power. I'm just not sure of what type of materials you're working with since I'm not familiar with the material names for non-AD powers. I'm also not familiar with the direction of goods for non-AD powers. The best guess I can give you right now (I have to go to work soon) is that if these Control packages are used for preparation (I'm really confident that Liberal Aid is used for expansion since I do opposition so I know they're not expansion mats) then you would take them either to a Control System or to a desired preparation system. I'll ask my guys but you may also want to ask your powerplay community if you have one.

HONEST QUESTION: why should I (or anyone) ingage in that?
@richardfrederick6009
@richardfrederick6009 3 года назад
It's hard to say. I can tell you MY reasons. For me, PowerPlay is a community driven activity in which we work together towards a common goal and we enjoy the success and we bemoan the failures. I enjoy the comraderie I can find in this activity. Some people just do powerplay for modules and never really look at it again. That's OK too. In general, powerplay is what you make it. Some people look for the community stuff, some people look for the modules, for everyone else, I don't know what they're looking for. It's up to you.
