So is the idea of the colour grid to try and match the printer to a pre-defined (agreed upon) colour? So if I had two different printers and they were calibrated using the same grid FILE (not print-out) and then each printer had it's own ICC profile, in theory they would print an ICC-modified grid that is very similar to each other?

Sorry if this is a silly question but I'm new to all of this. Am I right to say that, If I print exclusively in black and white I don't have to worry about any of this? Thanks Caula

So the icc profile for colours and not for brightness? as from my understanding when I send my prints to a shop I tend to brightness the image a bit as prints come darker than screen. now I got myself a printer and trying to learn about things before printing my first image

Some good questions on here but notably hardly any answers?

Thank you for this. I just was wondering : The custom profile will be different for every paper you decide to print on? For example I've been challenged recently using the Fine Art Photo Rag Metallic 340 gsm from Hahnemuhle. Of course it's not a paper I will use for every print. So do you offer Custom profiles on every type of paper. Or do we have to go to the paper company to ask for their ICC on the paper we're using? But thanks again for your excellent presentation.

Hello Tim, I've just found your channel, and I'm happy of that, I find finally all the explanations I needed. So I subscribed. Just a question, however. My screen is calibrated with a Spyder X Pro, which is a very good device. I use a Canon G550 printer I've just bought, and Lightroom to adjust my photos (black and white only). If I have correctly understood your explanations, when I calibrate the screen, it permits me to see the pictures on it, following the standard chart. The printer has inside the standard chart too. So why does Lightroom proposes me the two profiles, screen and printer, in the color management of printing? Which should I choose? Shouldn't they be the same, the standard one? I hope for your answer and send you my best greetings from France. Thierry.

Should designers be working in RGB or CMYK and does the custom profile actually flatten the file?
@HauntedTheTruth
@HauntedTheTruth Год назад
trying to make logos for screen printing to tops. I have read to setup photoshop to CMYK but then noticed there is also a profile manager. Defult is set to off and then theres a large list of all sorts such as US web control (swop) I don't know is to pick one of the profiles or leave it as do not manage and just leave colour mode as CMYK
@HauntedTheTruth

or set your profile in the profile section? And leave it set as CMYK color mode

Hi Tim, great explanation! I have a dumb question, when I down load an ICC profile should I save it to a special folder on the computer? How do I get it when I use my photo program? I have Afinnity Photo.

The custom ICC profile you made from one Canon Pro 1000 printer - would you use the same ICC profile in the other Canon Pro 1000 printer?
@FotospeedUK
@FotospeedUK Год назад
You could do but it would be a more generic profile, we recommend getting the custom profiles for your exact printer for the best results.

Thanks for your reply. So, are you saying that there is a big enough variance - even though it is the same printer + paper + ink combination? Is it possible for you to demonstrate this in a future video?
@mikafoxx2717
@mikafoxx2717 10 месяцев назад
@@fredwestinghouse2945there's a reason why pros use monitor calibration with a device rather than assume the display is correct, because in the real world everything varies. Post did a video on drinking dots and he had an ink cartridge that was meant to be magenta turn purple - you sure wouldn't have your ICC profile work out well.

(New to large format printing) Canon Pro 4100 : OK I downloaded the Hahnemühle ICC profiles I need and set one for printing. The part I don't understand is, I can not see the Hahnemühle paper type in the paper list? How does this work, do I need to also download paper types from somewhere or?

If you down the AM1x file and install using the media configuration tool this will add the custom paper as well as the ICC. Tim

Hi there - I love your paper , but i am getting black smudges on the corners - If that because I need to install the right icc profile for the platinum etching 285 paper? I have a canon pixma pro s.
@FotospeedUK

I think this would be head strike, maybe try a different media type and see if that makes a difference.

Would you be able to use the icc profile made for a canon pro 2000 on a canon pro 1000 printer? As they both use the same inks and have the same print head, I would assume they are compatible as a generic profile. I ask specifically for printing on hahnemuhle canvase metallic. Hahnemuhle has a profile for the pro 2000 but not for the pro 1000.

Hi Doug, Yes in theory you can. But i have found in practice it is best to have separate profiles for the both the prints. Tim
