Just to elaborate: Paul McCartney was the Beatles' regular bassist and played bass on most of their songs (including this one), but there are a few that have George or John on bass. Stu Sutcliffe was the original bassist but left the group in '61 and died (much too young) in '62, so you won't hear him on any of their records.

John Lennon wrote this song. The lyrics don't mean anything except John was doing word play, which he likes to do sometimes. The song comes from the end of The Beatles. This album, Abbey Road, was their last recorded music before they broke up to pursue solo careers. Early Beatles-I suggest the song Yesterday (written by Paul). Middle Beatles-I suggest Penny Lane (written by Paul). Late Beatles-I suggest While My Guitar Gently Weeps (written by George).

In 1969, LSD advocate Timothy Leary asked John to write him a campaign song when he was running for governor of California. It’s not exactly “Happy Days Are Here Again,” and Leary never became governor, but we have this. Ringo’s drums are sublime.

Paul actually wrote the keyboard part. He wanted a swampy feel to it. There's a bit of mystery to who actually played the Fender Rhodes. It was either Paul or John. The story I always heard was Paul played the part first, with John looking over his shoulder to see how he was playing it, then going back and re-recording the part himself. Billy Preston was definitely around during that era but does not play on this particular track. Peace

Stu Sutcliffe left the Beatles in 1961 to focus on art. Sadly, he died in 1962 at age 21 from a ruptured aneurysm. He was John’s best friend in art school. There is a good movie about the early days that focuses on Stu and John’s friendship. It’s called Backbeat.

Yes @MDREEEZY, that is the BEST way to learn and APPRECIATE how the Beatles music evolved and progressed from 1962 through early 1970 , listening to their catalogue just as we "first generation fans'" heard it back in the '60s. I was a 16/17 year old when the Beatles came to the U.S. for the first time the first week in February 1964, but they had been known in the UK and Europe from 1962, but known in their home city Liverpool, England, when they were the local area band since 1957 Keep in mind the songs on their first UK Album "PLEASE PLEASE ME" and second UK Album "WITH THE BEATLES" were what MADE THEM EXTREMELY popular from the start, we went WILD over them, especially us girls. Their music was DIFFERENT in those first albums, from anything we had heard before, at that time. KEEP that in MIND, without those early singles and albums, they would NEVER have progressed to songs like "Come Together" which is from 1969. A year before the broke up in mid 1970.

Paul is the usual bass player in the Beatles. However, John, George and Paul could play multiple instruments. John was the usuall rhythm guitarist but also played piano, bass, lead, acoustic guitars, and organ. George was the usual LEAD guitarist but could ALSO play bass if needed. He also played acoustic guitar, sitar, and ukulele and some piano. Besides his usual bass, Paul played lead guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, organ, ukulele and was also a very good drummer. Ringo played drums, percussion and could play a little bit piano. Stu Sutcliffe was their first bass player in the original band of John, Paul, George, Pete Best (on drums) which was before they were famous. Look up "STUART SUTCLIFFE" on line to learn more about his short life (he died of a brain hemorrhage at the age of 21)

Paul McCartney played the bass. He played piano and some guitar too. Stuart Sutcliffe was in the group very early on, but he was gone even before they recorded their first album, I'm pretty sure. I think Paul became the bass player because he needed a new guitar. So they told him to just buy a bass instead. McCartney and Lennon wrote most of the songs, but George Harrison was an excellent songwriter too and actually wrote some of my favorite Beatles songs. He usually only got to put one or two of his songs on every album. So he really made them count. When the Beatles broke up, he put out a triple solo album because he had written so many songs that the Beatles never recorded. That solo album was called All Things Must Pass and had some big hits on it. They all had successful solo careers. McCartney actually put together another group called Paul McCartney and the Wings and had a lot of hits. Lennon just did his own thing and had some solo hits through the years. Even Ringo had some hits. He had a song called Photograph and a song called It Don't Come Easy that are really good songs. I think George Harrison helped Ringo out a lot with his solo albums. I left you a list of great Beatles songs after your last Beatles reaction. Since you're asking for suggestions again, I'll just leave you one from that list, Here Comes the Sun. It's a George Harrison song. His voice sounds a lot like Lennon's. It takes a little while before you can tell them apart. McCartney's voice is easier to recognize.

While Ringo stuck to Drums and other percussion The other 3 were very accomplished musicians and could play many instruments McCartney played drums on a couple of tracks Harrison played Bass on others. Lennon, Mccarthy played piano /organ. Harrison used keyboard to write a couple of his songs. Also he introduced an Indian Zitar to some tracks I think it is what makes them the greatest group ever. They were constant experimenting.

John Lennon on rhythm guitar, George Harrison lead guitar and rhythm (overdub), Paul McCartney on bass and electric piano, Ringo on drums. There are songs on which Lennon plays lead lines with or without Harrison, and times when McCartney plays another guitar as well as drums, and percussion by Ringo. So it varied on certain songs and as they overdubbed different instrumental enhancements. And Billy Preston became a somewhat regular member of the band around this time as well, playing keyboards and generally providing some inspiration on various songs in the studio recording.

Taxman, an early song written and sung by George Harrison. It's got a rebellious rock'n vibe to it, because it's in reference to the 95% taxation on the wealthy at the time in the UK.
