This scene automatically would have took the spotlight from The Riddler. In my humble opinion, the scene was simply captivating and unsettling. I can’t wait to see what Matt does next with these characters.
Joker quite often steals the show. And he often steals the show in a way like this, where its best to cut him, cause too often he's gonna captivate people away from the story's intended villain. The Clown Prince of Crime is best to be the focus, or not present i think
*I'm tired of seeing the Joker all the time. Ledger in 2008, Leto in 2016, Phoenix in 2019, Cameron Monaghan in Gotham and now this guy? It's like DC forgot Batman has a rogues gallery of other villains they can use.*
As great as this deleted scene is, I kinda hope we get Hush or another villain first. Just seems so interesting. Save the Joker for last. It kinda of would’ve took the spotlight from Riddler, but it would’ve been a great surprise. All the the trailers showed the Riddler in Arkham, could you imagine being in the theatre, at the Batman in Arkham scene about to interrogate the Riddler, but surprise, it’s an established Joker instead?! That would’ve been NUTS. And NO ONE would’ve seen is coming! It would’ve been like Captain America grabbing Mjloner in “Endgame”!
@@starhunter9085 yea but we all know most ppl love the joker the most but I agree with you there are a lot of other great villains so they should save the joker for the last movie.
@@Nornfang wait so how does Batman know him, or why did batman go to him for the riddlers info. Or they deleted this scene for that reason? And just had him next to Paul danos cell.
@@youngeeneden1594 batman locked him up as a serial killer, he hasn’t broken out and declared himself the joker yet. his face deformation is probably in part due to batman capturing him
“Maybe he’s a fan, or maybe he’s got a grudge against you” I love that both of those are true, since he’s a fan of Batman, but a grudge against Bruce Wayne
He convinced me in this scene that he's the joker. Definitely would've stolen the spotlight from the riddler, IMO. I can somewhat see how people has compared this to the silence of the lamb.
@@darkknight9086 Oh it definitely would've, look at the reaction to it today and imagine if the scene was in the actual movie, it would've completely overshadowed any discussion about the Riddler
This version of the Joker really does look like he fell into the acid, which I think it a really cool touch! The scarring, the hair falling out, the boils and blisters, and even his iconic smile looks like a chemical burn! I was also amazed by how quiet he was. I think I'm trained now too expect the joker to be flamboyant and loud in his mannerisms, barking out laughter at the top of his lungs, but honestly these more quiet, quick laughs make him seem so much more unhinged! Really excellent stuff
I love the line “Think you don’t care about his motives Whether he loves or hates you, I think you’re just terrified because you’re not sure he’s wrong, you think they deserved it” In a way he’s right, Riddler isn’t 100% bad until he floods Gotham and tries to massacre the city and Batman knows why he’s doing stuff and in his mind somewhere he agrees with him, But his morality is telling him, NO BRUCE, HES A PATHETIC PSYCHOPATH
Well, that isn't something he knows. This kinda plays with the idea that Bruce really does think that these people deserve to suffer for ruining his city. So in a sense, he does agree with Riddler that these people should suffer
Loved it more than I thought. I'm giving Keoghan a chance, You always should, it's like people didn't learn from Ledger. Always give the Actor's a fair shot.
Usually when it’s an out of ballpark casting like Pattinson, Affleck, Ledger… it’s more than likely because they NAILED the audition. So when I see random castings i don’t get angry

I think they should have joker show up in the sequel but in a similar kind of way, but keep him as a main threat for a 3rd or maybe a 4th the Batman flick. Him teaming up with the riddler and other inmates at Arkham where they take it over in an attempt to lure in and kill Batman being a movie in of itself would be dope (and possibly killing robin in the process).
This unexpected drop of The Batman's deleted scene was just a shock in a good way. Barry Keoghan plays it as a deranged psychopath with a Hannibal Lecter twisted personality and definitely gets under Batman's skin with ease in this deleted scene. When you think about it serves as the perfect catalyst to setup the story in The Batman. The whole blurring out the Joker but at the same time kind of giving that nice setup is so perfectly shot in this scene. The look of the Joker is based on I believe Death of a Family/New 52.
*I'm tired of seeing the Joker all the time. Ledger in 2008, Leto in 2016, Phoenix in 2019, Cameron Monaghan in Gotham and now this guy? It's like DC forgot Batman has a rogues gallery of other villains they can use.*
@@starhunter9085 while i do agree and i think robin should be a character thats built up instead it would just feel weird to have a batman without a joker
Imagine being Batman and having to deal with this crazy motherjoker and the Riddler for a living. Both interrogation scenes are incredibly well done, creepy, demented but so damn entertaining to watch. I feel Batman has just as big of a fixation on the Joker. I also find it funny that neither one of them are intimidated by the other but seemingly more interested in figuring the other one out.
I think The Batman one isn't even an interrogation, it's the realization that the glass between these two traumatized orphans is actually a mirror, causing them both to throw a temper tantrum.
I felt like he was channeling the spirit of Heath Ledger but also did his own thing. The whole time I felt like I was being squeezed through tight space and couldn't tell when the travel would be over. It left a feeling of paranoia and repulsion. So great job dude! 👏
Much better then the last two Jokers we got. Which of course it's easy to beat Leto. But I enjoyed this one scene much more then I did anything in the Joker film. Which I always get hate for not liking that Joker. Never mean it as a knock against Phoenix as I'm sure he could be a great Joker. It's just the character of Arthur never once felt like The Joker to me. And I know people argue no shit it's a prequel film but to me even in 5 or 10 yrs I could never imagine Arthur transforming enough to resemble the Joker. As he's already in like his late 40's in that film he's not magically gonna become smarter at that age. As the most Arthur could come up with in terms of smarts was to just shot people. Not to mention how he killed the late night host made zero sense as what the hell production would invite someone with mental health issues and not even bother to search them for a weapon at the door or before bringing them on stage.
I like the Hannibal/Will Graham vibe from the scene. Returing to a previously captured criminal for his perspective on a new case feels ripped right out of Red Dragon and it works. While I may not be the biggest fan of this Joker’s look, the dude really does look like he fell into a vat of toxic skin-melting chemicals. Almost like the images of victims of acid attacks in the Middle East. (Yes, I know that he’s supposed to have a birth defect that makes him smile, but the rest of his body looks like Goldblum’s The Fly, mid transformation as his skin degrades.) Honestly, I would’ve cast Alexander Scheer as Joker (who essentially was the Joker in “Blood Red Sky”), but Keoghan does a good enough job.
I see that HIS right SIDE of his face sticks out further more on his face like a huge tumour, which may lead to the scaring on his face as we all seen that has a smile on it
'The Batman' is the same movie where we got to see The Riddler, Penguin, Joker, Catwoman and Falcone and it never felt forced or too occupied at any moment in the movie which is one of the reasons why I think this is the best Batman movie of all time. The director, the cast and crew, the music(theme composer), the costume designers(specially Batsuit), the batpod and the batmobile, the writers, the stuntmen/women, the set designers were all in sync with each other which is the reason this movie is art and perfection imo.
This is after the commissioner died and it’s awesome how smart they actually made the Joker in this scene. He’s absolutely terrifying in not just what he sounds like but what he knows and does.
I was on the fence because we have already seen so many versions of this character. However, this was unsettling and I love that; that's how Joker should be in this version of the Batman. Now I'm hyped for the future film (maybe?).
If keoghan really is joker, I’m excited to see him play joker. I feel like he’s one of those actors that you think would be bad for the role but are just incredible, like Robert Pattinson. He shook all of the people who doubted him! 💯🔥
He is really the joker but he isn't fully the joker yet. He's currently transforming into the joker while in arkham. He was caught by Batman cuz he's a serial killer.
@@cngotham4111 no. The director stated this is joker before he came out to the public as the joker. The public doesnt know him as the joker yet. He was just some sadistic serial killer that Batman caught in his first year.
This is like the real conversations had with Ted Buddy about The Green River killer, and other killers they were trying to figure out. Truly sadistic. Barry is playing this part to perfection. Can't wait to see the next movie!
I wasnt even aware Keoghan was getting hate. I enjoyed his scene with Dano at the end of the Batman. As a marvel guy, who doesn't know much about DC, I know Heath did an awesome performance, but time passes, reboots happen, maybe cause I'm not as invested to DC? But Druig from Eternals did awesome here EDIT: idk much about DC, but Joker's chemical spill/burn happens in the comics right? Glad Reeves' did it this way
I swear to God that I had straight nipple chills watching this scene. People complaining about Joker being repetitive or are "fatigued" by him can go and kick rocks somewhere else. Are people "fatigued" by Batman or Spider-Man or Marvel? I don't think so. I am already in love with Barry Keoghan's version of the Joker. So freaking satanic and insane. I love the aesthetic to him. The hair, the eyes, the voice, the smile caused by his birth defect, the look of someone who has survived being burned in a vat of chemicals (even though Matt Reeves stated that it isn't the case with this Joker). Everything about this was picture-perfect. I can't wait to see more of him down the line (but NOT in The Batman 2).
Yeah I think Matt will make joker the villain of batman 2. Which kinda makes me wonder whether he actually wanted to do riddler as a villain or had to make it because of previous batman films showcasing joker too much
I hope Matt Reeves can treat Joker like Thanos in that he needs to be gently threaded through and teased a bit often before the big showdown. I understand the Joker fatigue, and I think this would be the best way to give the rest of Batman's rogue gallery some breathing room. Just chronicle Batman's efforts to take down various supervillains while constantly winking and hinting there's something big to come with the Joker. This'll also give Reeves enough time to really figure out where he wants to take this character and truly refine his spin on him. And then, by the time the Joker gets his Infinity War/Endgame moment, he'll potentially be even more glorious than Heath Ledger's portrayal.
He truly is a great actor. As a fellow Irish man I'm proud that the legacy of this character is being passed on to Barry Keoghan! Also, I know its confusing but it's an Irish name so it's pronounced 'Key-own'. Just for future reference👍
I loved the scene but I'm glad they cut it, one of the best scenes in the whole film is Riddler and Batman's conversation when Riddler reveals the truth about being an orphan etc and it would have seriously undercut all that to have Joker near the start of the film basically announce all the main points of Riddler's motivations. It's kind of perfect though bc this scene being deleted means it isn't canon, so Matt can listen to honest feedback and if he wants to change certain things about the character without it impacting anything. For example this Joker looks more like he fell in a vat of acid than any Joker we've ever seen, yet Matt Reeves said this one didn't and just grew up with a muscle disease so he looks like that. I trust Matt Reeves but that's the one thing I hope they change, we don't even need to see it but just have it confirmed that he fell in a vat of acid to look that way etc EDIT: Maybe a backstory point of this Joker could be that him having this muscle disease and maybe being a psycho as a kid caused somebody to cover him in acid and that caused all the injuries or something(?)
Barry Keoghan from his perspective makes a creepily brutal Joker!!! Because of the change of voice, the gestures...but the laughter. Is the best of all. This points for the Arkham sequel or series. ❤❤👏👏🃏🃏
He copied Health Ledger abit...and he nailed the acting...but the makeup is great still too much gross...like idk I hope Joaquin phoenix was in this universe...would have made a good joker ..he got all...the face the nose... acting makeup is good but natural looks is something and Phoenix got all..for Joker.
I didn't care for his cameo in the film, thought it should be removed honestly, but this scene is incredible on its own. I need Batman 2 expeditiously.
A director with less refined instincts would have left this in, because this is clearly Grade A Joker material. But not only was Matt Reeves good enough to make this scene and realize what was needed to make a good Joker, but he had the tact and respect for his story to not let it overshadow his main antagonist even though this scene probably would have been the most hype moment in the movie and gotten the most social media buzz. Absolute respect.
Remember when everyone lost their marbles when Barry Keoghan was rumoured to be the Joker. Now we got a Joker who was clearly scarred and deformed by Ace Chemical. Not only it messed up his physical appearance but also his psychological mindset. Matt Reeves done a heck of a job.
When someone is straight forward at what he or she does people will always speak for them, My First investment with Mr Greg Gonzalez gave me $196,000 and that has made me invest without the fear of losing
I would love to see this added in a extended cut but even if they don’t I’m super excited for the possibilities here. In my opinion Barry portrayed the most accurate joker since Heath ledger in this one small scene alone.
I think if they added this scene it would take away from the Riddlers interrogation at the end as this reveals a lot of the same stuff and it would make the Riddler scene feel like old news. I like it but I also see why they took it out.
Brilliant scene. I see why it was deleted. He clearly tells you the whole motive of the Riddler. So as someone that seen the Theatrical Version twice, I would appreciate the Directors Cut to have this included to have a more complete understanding of the "Intro" of the Joker in Arkham with the Riddler. I think Reeves should have the Joker be a subtle (but major) villain throughout the entire series... A manipulator of other "Main villains" for the next additions. It would serve almost identical to the nature of how much of a master mind the JOKER really was.
Really like the scene, but definitely think it would have overshadowed Riddler, as well as I think it’d just end up repeating beats that naturally come later.
I was so unsure about the actor who was cast as joker, I had only seen him in the eternals and I was a bit meeehhhh when I heard it was him. This scene shut my mouth and made me instantly keen for more.
This scene should definitely have been kept in the movie, Barry Keoghan as Joker was a bold casting choice but it worked out awesomely, hope we see him in the sequel
No it shouldn't like Joker said he knew that stuff already it would've just been a pointless conversation with the Joker. I don't like Joker so don't waste my time just to show me Joker and slow down this long movie.
@@userious258 the scene definitely isn’t pointless. When he looks at the file he sees that riddler “likes little puzzles,” which is likely why later he uses the riddle to make him his “friend.”
@@q.waiters6666 The riddler was on the news and broadcasted himself and said riddles. So there are other ways to he the info that he likes riddles. Either way you don't need a whole scene to have Joker look at a file and say he likes riddles.
I'm glad they did a unique take of the joker of instead of full joker and chemical reactions of skin, hair and smile they went for a birth defect of like never stop smiling and they did it in a beautifully horrific and terrifying way and I love this uniqueness
I’m glad they didn’t include this scene in the final cut bc IMO it doesn’t fit that well and we also have a similar scene setup with the riddler( them both sitting in Arkham across from Bruce). It’s still an amazing scene tho and I’m really glad they released it and can’t wait so see more of this joker 💜💜
I'm excited to see more of this Joker. Imo his voice reminds me of the Joker from "The Joker blogs" Which is basically heath ledger's joker with more of a new Yorker twang.. I like it! It fits since Gotham is basically New York.
This seen was so chilling and well thought out, I think it would fit best after Alfred has been put in the hospital, as Bruce is very desperate to catch the riddler even more so after Alfred almost died
I think it definitely makes sense to release this after the initial film. I agree with many who think Joker's presence would have stolen Riddler's ability to remain in the spotlight. But the fact that this scene was released so soon after the movie's initial release goes to show that they probably loved this scene and want us to have a greater understanding of this world and this Joker going forward. Cannot wait to see this come to fruition down the line.
A great scene, but I’m glad it was cut, I think it would’ve effected the pace quite a bit. I like to think it still happened we just didn’t see it obviously
Decided to check this out. I actually think Joker isn’t talking about The Riddler at all. He’s talking about Batman himself. Which would make this even crazier when you think about it.
I think this scene is absolutely amazing and that he does such a great job as The Joker, but I think it was a very good decision to remove it because it would take away from The Riddler who was also such a fantastic villain
God this horror movie Batman universe is INSANE, people always talk about how dark and grim Gotham and the rogues are but Matt reeves actually was bold enough to make it a reality
The Joker design is a better version of the 2nd Joker on the GOTHAM show. I'm really digging the Hannibal Lecture and Will Graham vibes for Batman and The Joker too.
This was a Batman detective film. I'm glad Batman didn't go to Joker in the final film and was able to mostly piece the puzzle together himself. Batman going to Joker for help is just weird and this scene also makes Riddler's interrogation scene redundant
This is a very very good scene. Having watched it, I can see why it was cut. The movie didn't "need" this scene, and as a director and editor, if it's not "needed" it shouldn't be in it. The movie is already nearly 3 hours long, so 5 more minutes wouldn't have made a difference in that regard, but Batman didn't need this interaction to find and stop The Riddler. I actually like the end tease better as it lets us know what could be as opposed to this which could make us think, what did we miss in Year One? Bookending the movie with the "Joker Gang" at the start and The Joker at the end is perfect.
What I love about this scene is that it shows an already established relationship between Joker and Batman. It further fleshes out this version of Gotham.
I personally hope the Joker isn’t the villain in the second one. I’d much rather have a truly terrifying Scarecrow or maybe Gotham during winter with Mr. Freeze as the villain
*I'm tired of seeing the Joker all the time. Ledger in 2008, Leto in 2016, Phoenix in 2019, Cameron Monaghan in Gotham and now this guy? It's like DC forgot Batman has a rogues gallery of other villains they can use.*

I see why this was cut from the movie but man this scene is so cool. I really love Barry as this joker. Can’t wait to see more and what they do with it
This is the first joker you can imagine seeing in real life... The others have elements of what makes a person a "joker". But not someone you'd see in reality. Even joaquin phoenix's version whilst amazing. Still seemed comic book This seemed real, and the moment batman gets unnerved by him sells it even more.
I love it! Keep doing your thing Mr Reeves. Would be fantastic to see This Joker built up throughout the Arkham series and then let him loose to cause chaos in the third installment
Its a good Joker. His voice is very similar to Heath Ledgers Joker, would be interesting to see what he has been up to pre Arkham. But of course, I dont need to see that. We all know Joker. We all have seen the character enough and there is no need for him to be anything more than Batmans Hannibal Lecter. A role he fills out fantastically.
Another Joker? We’ve had 4 different versions in 14 years. The new Riddler was a refreshing take on a Batman villain. Can we get a serious Mr. Freeze? Or a Poison Ivy? Deathstroke? Clayface? Hell… Even a good adaptation of Killer Croc would be cool to see too.
@@benkei7530 Not saying it’s bad, but it’s starting to get played out. But I get it though. The Joker is, arguably, the greatest villain in comic book history, and he’s just way too iconic to not have with the Batman. And from a business perspective, the Joker will bring in millions of dollars on his own. But Batman has so many other villains to choose from and it’s always gonna be the Joker for every single Batman iteration. Something different wouldn’t be bad either.
Deathstroke isn’t a Batman villain. Poison Ivy is still kinda an anti-hero similar to catwomen. The most likely villain is Hush. Also “the new Riddler was a refreshing take on a Batman villain” can be said for this new joker.
Overall in the tier of live action jokers in cinema (not including television cause that would complicate things too much), this would be my tier list after watching the deleted scene: 1.) Heath Ledger 2.) Joaquin Phoenix 3.) Barry Kheogen 4.) Jack Nicholson 5 .) Jared Leto No disrespect to Jack but I find that he's an actor that's a prime example of typecasting: in every movie he's in he mainly plays an exaggerated version of himself, and his acting as the Joker is no exception. So whenever I watch Batman 1989 and see Joker, I don't really see Joker, I just see Jack Nicholson.
His look is like a mix of Gotham / Lee Bermejo / New 52 Death of the Family Joker. Great performances and the chemistry is fantastic. I hope this is added to the blu ray cut. It also gives more context to the gang at the beginning, in my mind it confirms they are joker goons
He sounds a lot like Jerome Valeska. I honestly wish that they would have casted Cameron Monaghan for this, because this is basically his character. He would have been perfect for this type of Joker. But yk, this was still a stellar performance.
I mean I don't think anyone has mentioned it yet but do you think that the reason his skin looks all wounded, infected and covered in boils is that this joker could follow the "fallen into a cat of toxic waste/acid" origin story? or could it have just been like self harm or an explosion
If you look at the back of his head at 2:10 you will see that he has a very nasty looking deep scar on the back of his skull. Doesnt look like acid damage but looks more like severe blunt impact that may have caused a TBI. This could have been Batmans doing as we see how brutal and physically vicious he can get in the film. Almost as if the Batman made his condition worse and he feels responsible. only a theory tho Edit* Something i also realized from reading about lobe locations on the brain. The area that the scar is located is directly above the parietal lobe. The parietal lobes functions description is "The parietal lobes are responsible for processing somatosensory information from the body; this includes touch, pain, temperature, and the sense of limb position" Its a stretch but this injury could possibly make the Joker immune to pain
@@viewaskew7741 That is actually so cool. This batman likes using brute force so a villain who cannot feel his punches is the perfect counter as he has to learn to play mind games with the joker instead
@@-Tidae it would be very cool I this was the case and incredibly detailed on the filmmakers part. I still think the majority of the damage looks like acid, but that one on the back of his head look very much like a scar from blunt impact
I'm from India and I just woke up to watching this scene . Not a good idea though..... uhhhuhhh BTW I really really like this scene but I'm glad Matt Reeves focussed on riddler in the movie.
I haven’t gotten to watching Eternals yet or any other things that Barry Keoghan has been in, but this deleted scene has now gotten me HOOKED & SPOOKED 😦🤯 They should 100% build up this eerie relationship between or in the movies, but save him as being the main or one of the bad guys in the final 3rd movie.
