The Battle For Bakhmut: Ukrainian Troops Hold On Amid Hail Of Russian Artillery

The guy that said that they should have stayed home ... now they are rotting here! - that should be played to the Russian public -

Bahkmut was strategically significant about 3 months ago when Russia was trying to capture the entire Donetsk region.. It was a city of about 50,000 people. There are 2 other larger cities of about 500,000 each that were originally the target of Russia and would have given Russia complete control of Donetsk. Russia was trying to encircle those 2 cities from the south through Bahkmut, and from the north through Lymon. There is now no chance Russia can take those 2 cities since the northern front has been completely retaken by Ukraine, and Russia does not have anywhere near enough troops to capture two large cities. So why are they still attacking Bahkmut when it has no strategic value?? Because it is the Wagner group. The Wagner group does not fight a war, they fight contract to contract. They currently have a contract with Russia to attack Bahkmut (from many months ago). The Wagner group has refused to accept any other contract/missions. So Putin has a choice, continue to pay them to attack Bahkmut, or stop paying them and have them go home. If you watch a map of the front lines, they have not moved at all around Bahkmut in 3 or more months. Wagner gets paid, and Ukraine has to keep troops there to defend, but that is all that is happening. My own suspicion is that the Wagner group doesn't even want to capture Bahkmut, since that will end their contract. When you are dealing with mercenaries, it is not a war, it is a business.

This is amazing footage, showing the brutality of the ruzzian onslaught on Bakhmut. Ruzzians have not only sent huge numbers of soldiers there, but these are members of the private Wagner group and they are trained to be brutal. I can only admire the Ukrainian soldiers holding the line against the orcs, and my hat off to the Ukrainian journalists and filming crew members, who risk their lives to bring us such footage. Defending Bakhmut has to be one of the least enviable jobs in the world right now, only Avdiivka, Marinka or Pisky could be even worse. After all, the Russians have now concentrated all of their offensive power across just 60 miles of frontline, where they also throw in all the people and weapons which they deem expendable. All the Ukrainian soldiers and everyone supporting them are making huge sacrifices in this war of survival for Ukraine and the free world, but these guys are another step above - I hope that the offensives elsewhere will eventually relieve them, that Russia eventually runs out of bodies to throw at them and that they make it out in one piece. No matter which happy or lucky things will ever come across their way, they have more than earned all of them.

The soldiers on the eastern and southern fronts are getting most of the attention because they are advancing but theses soldier are truly the forgotten heroes. They are holding the Russians and making the russians deplete their soldiers, artillery and shells for very little strategic gain. Truelly they are heroic as they gradually wear down the opposition and take Russian troops away from the east and southern battle fields.

Assaulting urban areas is notoriously costly and Ukraine is turning Bakhmut into a killing zone that draws Wagner away from fighting in strategically important places and turns them into fertilizer.

Then after six years of that I served six years as an Armored Fighting Vehicle Crewman (Tanker.) I sat out six and a half years before reenlisting and serving three and a half years as a Metal Crafter (Welder) in the Maintenance Platoon of an Engineer Heavy Dump Truck Company that never broke anything bad enough for me to weld it. I am going to be 60 this Christmas Eve by the Gregorian Calendar. I am of Anglo-German-Gaelic-Nordic heritage and I salute my Slavic brothers in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It's so heartbreaking to see the homes of the people in ruins. They are simple rural people, their houses are small and they don't have much money, but they are happy with their lives in the villages. Now Russia destroys their homes and tries to eradicate their families.

I have been watching Bakhmut hold out on a static frontline on the military map for a very long time. That's a bad place to be and there is probably a lot of extra destruction there because of it. The orcs will be punished severely for their crimes

I think they should bolster the soldiers near Bakhmut with the soldiers and russian artillery from Kharkiv. If only a dozen Ukrainian soldiers with Russian tanks left behind. That would be a huge help. Much like I was worried about Mariupol many months ago, I've been worried about Bakhmut for months. Russia cannot be allowed to take any more cities.
