The battle of the London-Athens route: Aegean Airlines (A320neo) VS. British Airways (A321neo) 

Aegean is a Star Alliance company that I still have to fly. I've heard good things about them.

Very nice video comparing the two airlines in the same destinations. Seems that they are quite similar now during the Covid era. Hope to see a similar video after the pandemic. Btw Aegean usually has very good wine selection that is also for free even in economy class. Cheers

I fly quite regularly between Cyprus and the UK. There are limited direct business class flights (currently only BA), so I frequently have to change planes. I have flown with both BA and Aegean via Athens and, whilst they are fairly similar in quality, I have always found Aegean to be significantly more expensive. My preference is flying with the Lufthansa group, ideally with Swiss. Service and timekeeping are excellent and they are invariably cheaper than the others (last flight €420 with Lufthansa against €1,360 with Aegean and €840 with BA - all business class). Lufthansa are also still providing the full hot meal service in flight. One thing in favour of BA though is that in addition to 2 x 32Kg suitcases, you can also have 2 bags up to 23 kilos each in the cabin, making a total of 110 kilos and they will let you check the cabin bags in for free, which effectively gives you 3 suitcases - or even 4!

Really awesome! I guess the best choice is more of a personal feeling. For me: * As I am in the BA Executive Club collecting Avios since early this year, I think their route to ATH is good for a mileage run. Food looks good though, and if you're connecting to/from a BA long haul flight this is a good choice. The cabin is nothing special though. * I've yet to try Aegean's NEO but it looks like a really good product. The seats look better than BA and the PW engines sound better than the LEAP. * Counting Gatwick Airport as well, your recent review of the easyJet NEO to Greece really shows a pretty decent product for an LCC, and they seem to have pretty good wine. Also I love the new Airbus XL bins on the newest easyJet NEO's.

Great report! It is quite a hard decision to decide who was better but I think that BAs business class was better, however Aegean's Economy is better definitely. I was about to fly Aegean from Athens to LHR but the price sky-rocketed so I took easyJet's A321neo which was 6 months old back to LGW.

I flew London to Athens in Sept 2018 on BA in economy. It was one of their last 767's, no snacks, no drinks, not even a cup of water. It wasn't one of my favorite flights.

Two good products overall but difficult to make a real comparison with the current situation

I think the BA Neo has seats which differ from the older aircraft. So those fold away tables don't fit. I think they were left out for reasons of economy, simplicity and flexibility.

Great video!! I have a question because in a week from now I am about to do kind of the same thing (in economy and with BA only though).Did you have to go through the security control once you arrived in Athens or just the passport control?

I don't know, never flown in business but if was paying for business I would be expecting more than a slightly fancy economy seat. It looks like I expected premium economy to look. Maybe I'm expecting too much. Yes it does look like the Malaysian logo. Great shots of Athens 🇬🇷

BA Product still inferior and Budget airline like. Charging for seat booking in business class, no middle seat table, no free Wi-Fi. They may think they're a premium legacy airline but they certainly don't behave like one. How disappointing.

Never flown Aegean but will give them a try sometime . Whenever possible I avoid BA which are now a third rate airline. Even Ryanair are better than BA!

Once upon a time I was an avid BA flyer, so much so I would pay over the odds to fly with our flag carrier. I know COVID has changed things but even prior to this BA had gone down hill. From service, seating & pricing. It looks to me that in this case Agean has the upper hand. This product looks as though it has the edge on this route I used to (and hope to again soon) fly in business class to Singapore, KL, HK & BKK & it was on these routes that BA lost my custom. However I will be going to Athens soon & I will try out Agean airlines.

Great comparison, I agree with Nathanael below, would be good to see more comparisons, they are popular also and would get more views and grow the channel. It would even be good to exactly the same in 12 months time with full service, assuming things are back to normal then, full working lounges, hot meals. I'd be tempted to go Aegean on this route, I think the BA meal was actually better, Do&Co seemed to have dragged up the previous poor offerings for BA, even with snack based meal, it was better than the Aegean one, which surprised me. I'd rather have the FA just topping up the wine and coffee all the time though in this case ! What swings it for me is the £25 extra you are asked for to prebook in business with BA, how do they justify that? That would wind me up. Also the missing tables are strange.

Great vlog. Very poor personal space on these aircraft. The 767 in CE used to be great. The neo seats in y on BA are appalling, Might have been better had you used Aegean from Athens and BA from LHR? Full lounge experience? Would be great if agean had 2-2 seating in business ? Say max 8 rows 32 proper seats ?

Flew this route on BA in 2018!

I'd choose Aegon. Nice extra table, free WiFi and Magazine. I've not have had a BA European flight with functioning WiFi. Flying C within Europe is most of the time a big disappointment, but I'm probably a spoiled american girl :-) For Europe I like Easyjet. Pay extra and I get Pre security and always my preferred seat on row 1

There were no dramatic differences between the two flights, and though pleasant enough, neither fit my expectations for Business Class. On some airlines you can pay an added $20 for an Economy "extra legroom" seat, which is what you had. The only IFE was with your own device - when WiFi was working. I realize that Covid has reduced meal service on most, but not all, airlines, and I think BA did a better job of filling that gap. You did get drinks on both trips. If all international flights offered such modest pampering in Business Class, I'd question the ticket price.

What is the British Airways service at the moment for the economy class on the same route? I am pretty sure they won't offer free alcohol drinks. I think it does worth to mention how much better is the economy class service in Aegean airlines (while you mention that they try to copy each other in some aspects). Especially prior Corona era Aegean's service in the economy was exceptional with hot foodservice and at least twice beverages service (including wine and beer) while British' airways economy class service was rediculous for this route. :)

Would of been more prestige if Aegean put proper business class seats and tv screens. The whole point of paying all that money in business class is to sit on wide comfortable seats and watch a movie. It just looks like a budget airline aircraft with 3 seats across and the new logos should of been given more thought .. it could of had a design maybe to do with ancient history , magnificent temples, the Olympics or the national animal the dolphin .. it just looks like another airlines logo. Saying this I've flown Aegean in economy and they're very good.

Overall, the truth is (not because i’m greek) but because AEGEAN is the best airline in europe by far for me, as it’s services are more. and into comparison with british airways, i prefer traveling with aegean with matters of safety and service. AEGEAN is top for me 🔝

To really review you need interaction with crew and how they are performing, attention received , video out the window doesn’t really make it , think you missed on commenting about the little extras ie chocolates and wifi , did ba charge ? What was the inflight entertainment like ? Meals did differ , and drinks , I saw juice and iced coffee on Aegean . Let’s review not just state they seem to copy , yes it’s an aeroplane, yes they fly , yes they serve food .

Truly love the A320. I compare it to the Boeing 737.

I just find this "lounges and airlines adapting to the new safety regulations" by serving no food or sometimes even drinks sometimes! You have bars and restaurants open across the continent and in the airport but not the lounge.. no no no.. that's safety! BS excuse when it's actually about getting back more money! I get it why you're doing but don't lie that much and don't be a hypocrite! (the airlines.. not you, You're doing a really nice job! thanks for the review!)

Aegean is much better cleaner planes. I once traveled with BA to London and the plane was very dirty and toilet too
