Fourth of July and I was home with a swollen lip from a car crash, but I sang every song along with the Boys on TV, mumbling at times and trying not to drool ! LOL ! No way I could have just sat there watching . Fantastic free concert from Washington DC. Must have been a million people there . Will never forget .

Number 1. Mike Love did NOT create the Surf Sound. Dick Dale did. At least the twangy guitar parts. It was Brian's early production of the surf music that gave the group their surf music identity. 2. Your comment that Mike's lyrics with Brian's music is a propagated falsehood circulated by Mike himself to try and have the music world hold him in the same regard as Brian. Mike wrote SOME lyrics to SOME songs. For instance, Gary Usher wrote 90 to 95 per cent of the lyrics to 409. Mike wrote giddyup, giddyup, 409. That's it. Mike insinuated himself into the lyrical portion of WIBN, ad hoc singing "Goodnight my baby. Sleep tight my baby. " Tony Asher was livid when Mike insisted upon a co writing credit. Brian wrote all of IGA except for the "Round, Round, Get around, I get around" beginning part. The lyrics Round, Round get around, I get around were ALREADY in the song, written by Brian, Mike just borrowed and moved them to the opening. Mike claims to have written all the lyrics to Surfing USA. Al Jardine says that is not true. Fact is, Brian asked Dennis to write down some surfing spots and write down surf lingo. Dennis and his friend, Jimmy Bowles, sister of Surfer Girl, Judy Bowles, Brian's then GF, gave Brian the list and Brian arranged them lyrically. Let's give Mike credit for co-writing Surfin', Surfin' Safari, The Warmth of the Sun, Fun, Fun, Fun, Kiss Me Baby, Please Let me Wonder, GV etc.. but he did NOT write ALL the lyrics. He either added a line here and there or in most cases, like Tony Asher did, basically put Brian's thoughts down on paper.
Everybody likes to hate on Mike, but nobody else in 1963(!), while the Beatles were still living in bunks in Germany, sang this and created the surf sound along with Brian, other than Mike freaking Love. He was really, really good, and the only reason he’s still touring is because Brian is cool with it. Even after the lawsuits, drugs, and deaths in the family, they love each other and The Beach Boys. SpongeBob did sing it very well, but Tom Kenny would tell you, Mike Love taught him how to sing it. Blink 182 made an entire legendary career doing a Mike Love impression. It’s the sound of Southern California. Deal with it.
