Thank You Frenite.....For the joy you brought to us old timers .....Thank You Mike Love and Bruce Johnston for continuing to carry the torch before the Beatles and Rolling Stones...Just Saying....❤
They have been my favourite band since the sixties - so lovely to see. The last time I saw them live was nearly ten years ago at the Albert Hall but the tickets are so expensive now.
Coming to them soon. I thought I wasn't a fan til now. I love singing and the different variations. Because Boys will now be my most favorite thing ever! I can't to see them and sing along.
Thanks for posting. I attended my first BB’s concert in 1975 and have seen Brian Wilson and his awesome band, and every version of The Beach Boys through 2021. I just can’t do it any more. I love The Beach Boys and their music, but it makes me sad to see them now. With Scott Totten and John Cowsill gone and of course with the illness and death of Jeffrey Foskett and his amazing voice earlier, the magic is gone. I like Mike.. have talked to him many times, and to the contrary of others, I found him to be a really good guy. He tries but the strain is noticeable. Al Jardine’s band and voice is the last one standing.
It's not great. I don't find it dreadful but you might have higher standards in music than I. They sound like a slightly above average high school band to me and that's not a compliment. Love and Johnston are actually the weakest links here. It would likely sound better with singers from a good Beach Boys cover band or the guys from The Wondermints.
@@m.j.c.6969 Agreed. I saw them a few years ago in Ames, IA. Love’s voice has really deteriorated since then. You gotta give them credit tho for still carryin’ on!
I Still think Mike sounds great on everything BUT it saddens me to see that he's struggling with 'Don't Back Down'. Thats one of my favorite songs was out of the set list for so long! I hope he can strengthen his voice on that one so that it's not removed forever.
I love the "old" Beach Boys, meaning the band of twenty, thirty, or even fifty years ago. I still will enjoy their original recordings. It looks like they're just going through the motions and collecting a paycheck, which I don't at all begrudge them.
Mike Love destroys one of their signature songs, "California Girls". The voice is gone. When the band no longer sounds like The Beach Boys, it's time to hang it up.
For some reasons Mike has never been flavour of the month in all his time with the BBs. I gotta admit I despised his chewing gum during his shows. It showed he had no class and the rest persevered with his odd weird behaviour but it allianated him and it was his own fault. You either have class or you haven't and Mike had none.
High school garage band singing Brian Wilson songs/arrangements with their great grandfather (Mike Love) feeding his ego by singing “lead” - OMG They need a lot more reheasing!!
@@Frenite I think it was the 2012 tour. Full of musicians onstage, Brian not in top shape but the band and the overall result was good, definitely better than this
@@andrewhudson8966 Bruce isn't a founding member indeed, but was in the group since 1965, so you can call him a longtime member after almost 60 years :-)
@@tijnonline6807 actually he was sacked from the group in 1972 returning in 1978 to help produce the L.A. album,he was the one behind the disco version of Here Comes The Night, and has remained a member to this day. So yes he is a long term member but still not one of the original six.
Listen to this performance done a state fairs, etc. which is good for folks at a certain age that see Mike Love but think they are hearing performances like this one by Brian in 2023 (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jV5Y5v4t4mo.html). Personally, if the choice is listening to a state fair pickup band or an excellent performance of a great genius who truly cares about his music - there is no choice at all!
I am glad we can watch these videos before buying concert tickets to these bands. While I admire the fact they are still touring, this is hard on the ears. Kinda of feels like amateur karaoke night at the old folks home. That coked up drummer is playing so loud it's hard to hear the other instruments.
Who is the guy upfront with the guitar, he’s got a great voice. He’s carrying the rest of the whole band, that’s how they should all sound, like Brian, Carl now did back in the day, he’s a great addition to the show, but I still respect Brian would love to see him just up on stage along with Al, this was their band.
There are three categories that (IMO) bands fall into: 1 in their prime and kicking butt, 2, past their prime and need to hang it up, or 3, never were worth it and should have hung it up before they even started. This version of the Boys killed it on their prime, but now need to just hang it up. It’s a bad show when you have distractions with the video screen, lighting, (in this case) the drummer. DONT GET ME WRONG…he is very good. He can hold that groove down. His stage antics are just distracting. That’s all. Now, there seems to be an element of ego here. I believe Mike is just constantly adding new band members just to keep the Meal Ticket Boys (as he probably sees them) going. During the Boys’ early years, they supported animal rights. After Mike got the legal go-ahead to tour under The Beach Boys name, he went against what they were for, and performed at a Safari Club International convention. Brian and Al encouraged a boycott of BBs music on grounds of Animal Rights. Mike tried to dodge all of that by claiming freedom of speech (he was trying f to be “diplomatic”). He went one further and headlined a Trump event (NOT STARTING A POLITICAL FIGHT SO KEEP YOUR COOL!) so Al and Brian cut all support and took no responsibility for what Love was doing.
Dear oh dear. Mike is lost without autotune, isn't he? The Beach Boys died along with Carl Wilson back in 1998. Hard to believe people pay to watch this.
I saw them when they came to rockford with my husband many years ago at the firesman ball when I sold tickets across the way at a small place across from my favorite asian resturant Great Wall! you all take care and have fun too and yes sir and all the madames too! and I cant remember if I saw them in the snow inside but it was fun!!!!!
Bruce Johnson has been in the band since 1965. Brian was fine with bringing in new members whenever he felt like it; especially in the studio. That said, I admin this is crap.
Beach 'Boy', not Boys I think. I know some 60s bands have not one original member & the oldest replacement gets the star treatment. They're just a tribute band in reality.
Mike is consistently singing sharp throughout the show, which is so weird as you would typically expect the opposite from an older performer. There's some enjoyable moments, but that factor alone is too much of a distraction for me.
Thanks for sharing the full concert. Are these The Beach Boys? Well, we have two originals, Mike and Bruce. Yes, Bruce deserves that condition. The other original members alive? Brian is retired and fighting bravely against mental issues, Al is in top form but he doesn't want to join Mike and Bruce because he is doing his shows with Matt and past Beach Boys band members. So I think Mike and Bruce band deserves to be considered The Beach Boys. This show was a great one. I can't understand the critics of people in these comments but we all know there are a lot of casual fans that don't like The Beach Boys but Brian or 4-5 albums. They aren't Beach Boys fans but those 4 or 5 albums ones. Mike, Bruce and the rest of the band are doing really great shows!!!!
Tim is apparently using two Ultimate Support Apex stands next to each other. I've never seen a set up like that but it would definitely be more supportive, especially with those larger keyboards.
Even during The Beach Boys' heyday, any average bass/baritone male could have sung better than Mike Love. The real Beach Boys no longer exists. How could it without Brian, Carl and Dennis? Look at the solo careers of Brian and Mike; it's no contest. Mike's lyrics could never match those of Tony Asher and Van Dyke Parks. They knew how to write outside of the box. This performance is Douchey! Yo . . . Neil Shoen Holz
His wife wants this 83 years old geezer husband out of the house!! Compare Mike Love’s (ahem) performance/singing compared to Mick of the Stones or Tyler of Aerosmith - or even Brian!!
I think this sounds pretty bad, shallow if you will. I was never a fan of Christian Love's voice, he sounds like he's half asleep. Does no justice to Rhonda. And turn the drums down, they're way too loud. Sa to see and hear Bruce try to sing on Cal Girls and Surfer Girls. He's really just there for the sake of trying to be authentic. Just a sad state of a once great band.
what does Bruce Johnston add to the show at this point? He pretends to play keyboard (sometimes) and sings backup on some songs. Mike Love must pay him next to nothing for him to be allowed to stay in the band.
I saw them in June. They were much better. The three stayed together on the stage: Mike Love, his son, and Bruce Johnston. All participated. Bruce sang a few songs and was part of the whole show. They were good! Here Mike does it all and is terrible. Time to fade a way. I also saw a Tribute to Ricky Nelson. Excellent! One of the twins played lead guitar and the other played bass guitar. And they had a drummer. That’s it! Excellent!
SAD WHEN YOU GET SO OLD YOU CANT KEEP A TUNE ITS TIME TO HANG IT UP. WAS THIS A FREE SHOW. ITS NOT EVEN THE BEACH BOYS. THE BEST SHOW WAS THERE 50TH ANNIVERSARY SHOW AT. WE WENT AND I FINALLY GOT TO MEET THE BEACH BOY WHO WAS ON THAT ONE ALBUM AND COVER THEN DISAPPEARED BUT TONIGHT I GOT 4 PICTURES WITH HIM AND TALKED WITH HIM FOR ALMOST A HALF HOUR. DAVID MARKS WAS THE LOST BEACH BOYS AND ON MY MIND FOR 35 YEARS BUT ENDED THAT TONIGHT. I DO LIKE MIKE ADDED ALOT OF RARITIES IN THIS SHOW.
@@trentaccid2177 Dave may have been only one album cover but musically he was on four albums and of course make that five if you count the That’s why God Made The Radio album.
Made the mistake and saw Chicago a few months ago. Two original horn players and Robert Lamm are all that’s left. He is almost 80. His voice is weak. It happens..Same problem here…
I saw Chicago two years ago with Brian Wilson and I thought they sounded great. Lamm’s voice was pretty good, but maybe something changed in the past two years.
@@Frenite Actually Lamm has been MIA due to a fall. He hurt his neck. I’m told he’ll perform a few songs but not do a whole show. Not being disrespectful to them but I was like four years old when they got going. I’m 61 now ….Time to retire…
Obviously they should have given enough a long time ago but at least it's live and they're really singing. Where someone like Frankie Valli is not singing at all and it's all recorded. I mean these guys have been phoning it in for so long it's not even funny. They've done the same songs about 20,000 times.
