Breathtaking, beautiful and humbling. Reminded me of a walk I did with my wife many years ago on Skye. We didn’t see another person for the entire walk but I still remember our shock when we reached the shore and came across all manner of plastic waste and detritus littered all along the high tide line. So happy I was told about your channel. Thank you.
Thanks. It’s really sad to see all the rubbish in these beautiful beaches. Of course it’s not just unsightly but a real danger to wildlife plus all the micro plastics going into the food chain.
Found your video by chance Jim, so glad I did! Really good to watch a video with no needless chat, the beautiful scenery doesn't need it. It's sad how rubbish is being found in such stunning places. When I'm out hiking and I find any rubbish, I pick it up, take it home, and dispose of it appropriately. That's my way of showing my appreciation for these beautiful parts of our planet. I'll keep a look out for your videos again Jim! All good wishes! Simon, Somerset.
Really appreciate comments like yours. Thank you. It spurs me on to do more. Good to know there are others out there who appreciate a slower, less dialogue heavy film like I do. Thanks for watching. Good for you for picking up rubbish. The more of us that do that the better!
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Would you be happy to share the name of that Beach Jim? I’m back up to Mull soon to visit my Gran and Aunty and would love to go and visit that spot myself
Sure. It's Traigh Gheal on the Ross of Mull. There's a path from Knockvologan, quite boggy in places. That whole area is beautiful and being well looked after by the custodians of Tireregan Nature Reserve. There's a link in the description. Enjoy the walk!
A fabulous and inspiring piece of work! I’d love to do this trip in, say, October. Looking at it on the map it looks like a great spot for Milky Way photography over the south-facing beach. Do you mind me asking where you hiked in from? I see on the map there’s a “footprint” symbol off to the north west and a car park to the east. Also , I see you’re in wellies. I suspect they may be Muckboots? How do you find them for hiking with a pack? Would you recommend them for multi-day walking? Thanks. Subscribed.
Hi. Thanks for watching. I've never walked in from the car park to the east and I suspect it would be very rough and boggy that way (with no path). The best way (and the way I went) is from the place you mentioned to the west at Knockvologan. You can park where the footprint is on the OS map. There's a path from there to the beach (marked on the 1:25k map but not the 1:50k). It is quite boggy in places hence the muckboots. I only ever wear the muckboots for short boggy walks such as this. I've never tried them for multi-day hikes. I prefer more traditional leather boots. I know the Scandinavians are quite fond of hiking in good strong wellies so maybe it's the way to go but I'm not convinced. After a while I find them a bit uncomfortable. It's a great beach with a nice grassy shelf where you can pitch a tent. I think it would be a great spot for astrophotography and October would be a good time to go once the holiday crowds have died down (not that it's a particularly busy beach). Enjoy!
@@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking Hi Jim, thanks for the prompt and comprehensive reply. I had been considering some Muckboots. A friend recommended them. I think they'd be handy for getting in the water for coastal and waterfall photography (which I do a lot of), as well as bog-hopping. I usually wear goretex-lined leather boots for multi-day hikes. Shame about the waste on the beach, but we've been to West Africa and the Middle East over the last couple of years and, believe me, the problem is much worse there. I notice up at Balnakiel they have a bin at the entrance to the beach from the car park, with a specific invitation to folks to pick up waste and drop it in. We're on the east coast. Less of a problem here, probably due to less ocean swell.
@@TarrelScot I like my muckboots but I do wear them out quickly. The pair I have now have just developed a hole in them after two years so time for a new pair. The coastal litter is very depressing isn't it. It gets everywhere. I try to pick up what I can but at times it's overwhelming.
Beautiful footage of a beautiful island. I'll be up there very soon on my touring bike, I hope that I get similar weather! Cheers 🏕👍 Just seen the rubbish, nothing new to me being an avid traveller of the Scottish highlands and islands, but always upsetting nonetheless.
The rubbish is a real problem. The beach cleaners are admirable but we need to stem the flow of new rubbish entering the oceans. Hope the bike tour goes well!
@@Jim_Manthorpe-hiking yes, in my canoe I will carry out several bags of other people's rubbish, collected when I first go ashore so as to make camp more pleasurable from the outset. On my touring bike I'll strap a bag full to the rear panniers but when backpacking my rucksack is usually full to capacity. Words fail me as to just why people feel the need to discard rubbish 🤬 Cheers, looking forward to getting up there 🚲⛺
It's really depressing. I've worked on a number of beach cleans. It's shocking how much there is and we can't even see all of it. I remember walking along the grass on the foreshore of one beach and the grass would crunch and crack because just below the surface was a layer of plastic.
