“Taylor Swift doesn’t send copyright strikes, you’ll just get hit with a plane” LMFAO that’s the hardest I’ve laughed on this channel since the sweaty spaghetti scene in Succession
@@roems6396 Yeah, but I’ve played the game before so a lot of the emotional beats I was prepared for and didn’t hit so hard. Still love it though; episode 3 was incredible, but I still think Forks takes it.
@@seya_2I would watch the show first! You can start off enjoying it on an entertainment level and then immerse yourself into the game and the story that really started it all. The show also changes a couple things and it more or less improves the game by doing it, so when you play the game it’ll be way more like “ah-ha!” ya digg?
@@MrCrockaG She's a fucking living legend. Incredible actress and, based off her Oscar speech and every single interview of hers I've watched, a genuinely sweet person.
8:33 she's an expo, food expeditor. One of the toughest jobs in the kitchen and can sink a whole service if done incorrectly. Gotta read tickets to keep dish counts and time everything.
In quick service (fast food) that's called 'running the post', you are the one point of contact between the frontline/drive thru, and the kitchen, and usually you're the one receiving/stacking/prioritizing/packaging orders and handing them off to the customer or staff delivering them. Usually that was ran by the shift manager, and yes doing it wrong will absolutely sink everything. Doing it right and things are quick and easy, you're planning ahead, you have timers running on things, it's how I can tell if a restaurant is being ran well or not.
After I saw Fishes, I thought it would be my favorite episode of television that year, and then they followed it up with Forks. Even better. Just as good as writing can get. Period.
I think this episode resonated with a lot of people because we've all felt like Richie. Not thriving, barely surviving. Just existing and watching the trains go by. Somewhere along the way we lost our light. So to see Richie start to live up to his potential, and believe in himself as much those around him believe in him is what's so satisfying. All while still being his normal goofy self. "I wear suits now, they make me feel better about myself." And that's what it's all about.
This season deserves SOOOOO many awards. Between the cinematography, lighting, framing and shots, to the acting of Jamie Lee Curtis (Donna Berzatto) in the FISHES episode and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Richie) in this episode, the season deserves more praise.
I swear, we've all had that moment where you've accomplished something and that ride home is so freeing, you just have to sing out loud with a fat smile 😁 loved this episode 👏🏽
It's so interesting how they immediately set Richie up to be the villain in season 1. And you slowly realize that he isn't a bad guy, he's never been a bad guy. He's clinging to the last thing he has left of his best friend and he's dealing with the stress of feeling like he has to hold the Berzatto family together now that Mikey is gone
i love this ep.. this brings back memories when i was at my worst times of my life, homeless, no money, no car, no phone, no support, no hope.. i always wanted to be a chef growing up, used to pass this restaurant, until i got the guts to walk in for a job.. i sat down with the exc chef and told him i nvr went to school, i don't have no kitchen experience, i cant cook for shit.. but what i do have is the last bit of fight in me to make this count and will do whatever it takes.. chef put me to the test, washed dishes, scrubbed every inch of the kitchen, chucked hundreds of oysters, cleaned fishes, killed lobsters, cleaned the walk in, waking up at 5am and leaving at 1am almost everyday for 3yrs.. chef comes in one day with a brand new crisp white chef coat.. i almost cried.. fast forward, traveled the states cooking and still learning from great chefs and doing what i love.. every minute counts fam, let it rip
Richie's baby momma is the voice actress for Eve in Invincible btw. Not sure if you guys mentioned it before or not! Loved her work ever since Community.
This is an amazing palate cleanser after the Christmas episode. So great to see Richie's true potential. Fak getting repeatedly electrocuted was so fun! And chef Jess was definitely smitten, right?
I wouldn't mind if she came back in season 3, for Richie or just because. Same goes for Garrett, Chef Terry, and Chef Luca. The supporting characters in this season were so great. Jess did look back though!
@@pabloc8808 I think they will all definitely come back when it's publically open cause they all know each other and it'll be like high stakes friends and family and making sure they get the perfect dish. These people will probably be proud of changing Ritchie and seeing how far he's changed
The unbridled joy on your faces during the Love Story scene was exactly how I (and I believe everyone) felt watching this for the first time. This video was like reliving the episode all over again.
Forks is my favorite episode of the bear. The use of Taylor Swift here is so perfect. It triggers emotions in me. Every time I watch it. It feels like the definition of what it feels like to see somebody truly realize their purpose in their life.
my favorite episode of the bear to date. i love a good character development and richie’s slow discovery of his purpose is so beautiful and it’s impossible not to share in his joy and triumph in this ep! also love story is richie’s song now lol
Ive worked in kitchens almosy my whole life. This episode hit me on such a spiritual level. My motto is everyone leaves with a smile. And god, watching the excitement of Richie as he connects the dots and runs for the pizza, the sheer pride and joy he feels with his accomplishment. I remember how tough it was getting used to kitchen etiquette and the harsh language. This scene makes me tear up, and the first time i watched it... I cried like a baby, it reminded me of the fight i had to have to be a part of the kitchen and how i felt when i seen my first guest smile and thank me personally. This episode spoke volumes and i love this show.
My favorite episode so far. There is such a Zen quality to having Ritchie polish forks. Watching Ritchie's heart break when his ex told him she was remarried was brilliant. The order and discipline f the staff is not lost on Richie, and that is going to be a huge plus for The Bear.
@around 8:40 you mention the service person that calls out timings. This position is called Expo, and it is short for food expeditor. the person that checks food, and sets timings so everything comes out on time, together. Ever go to a restaurant and someone in the group has cold fries? - They have a bad expo.
@@jeffreydrozek-fitzwater4649 Yeah that’s very true, and I do think that was the point of it, but still would be nice for Richie to have that; he must be lonely despite turning things around
@@flightdub6056 Speaking from experience, you gotta get right before you can be with someone else. He'll get there and his next partner, whether it's Jess or someone else, will be better for it.
We get so much Ritchie here. What I love is the lift of Tangerine Dream's Diamond Diary from Michael Mann's Thief, a film about a consummate professional working in Chicago, which Ritchie probably loves. That cue suddenly raised the bar for him and his discovery of excellence. This show is utterly next level.
Having had Pequods Pizza on a few occasions, I can say that is the peak of Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. Absolutely great pizza. Just loved that scene and the entire episode. To follow Fishes with Forks, those are 2 of the best episodes of TV I have ever seen
I liked this episode and felt it was well timed because the family episode was crazy stressful and a lot to process. I also think the episode works because it not only educates Richie about fine dining which will help him fit in better with the restaurant they are developing, but it also educates viewers who may not be aware of what that level of dining involves especially behind the scenes.
My favorite episode of the series so far. And I know it's easy to get overshadowed by the onslaught of major guest stars in the previous episode, but casting Olivia Colman is a big-time get with her resume and schedule.
It does actually seem like Olivia takes time for these smaller appearances more often than most. I know she had very humble beginnings and she's allegedly a very down to earth person, so maybe she likes to sprinkle in some smaller roles here and there to keep it fresh
olivia colman gave the most impressive guest performance in this show so far to me, i’m obsessed with jamie lee curtis’ role and she was great in fishes but colman had to be calm, collected, and a bit muted while still having the last (and most important) conversation to push richie’s character development forward. fishes is still better though 🤭
Fishes is a traumatizing episode. It’s amazingly written but as someone who basically had every family function ruined by someone’s “ego/ bravado” fuck that episode too. Forks is the best for the fact that someone whose been in chaos his entire life finds purpose in order and showing people “yes I can do it, let me show you” it’s the best uplifting thing because he’s breaking free of the chaos and choosing to be a man of his own accord.
The instrumental music that was playing once Richie got into his work was from Tangerine Dream and that was in the movie Thief. Thief was a bad ass movie with James Caan that took place in Chicago.
Some fun facts: the restaurant is mainly based on Eleven Madison Park in NYC. Daniel Humm and Will Guidara took it over in 2012, they were the best restaurant in the world, and the pizza is based on their hot dog story. The hot dog story is Will overheard a table talk about how they ate at the best restaurants in NYC but didn’t have a NYC hot dog and so he ran to a hot dog cart and convinced Daniel Humm to put it out. A couple other things: “Every Second Counts” is based on Thomas Keller’s (The French Laundry/Per Se, also consultant for Ratatouille) famous phrase “Move With a Sense of Urgency” hung on signs under the wall clocks The smudge is a reference to food smudge on a plate. This is a “stage,” or “internship”
No it’s not. It’s based called on the “EVER” if you bother to google “3 star Michelin star restaurant/ forks the bear” you can find multiple articles. How a NY restaurant would be featured in Chicago is WILD and you should slap yourself.
This was what i was talking about on season 1 when i said that you all are gonna LOVE Richie on Season 2, this episode is one of my favourite. Seeing him grow so much.
I love that Tiff was wearing a T Swift shirt in Forks, so she's been a Swiftie forever and the call back to their daughter asking about Taylor, and Richie getting Tiff a ticket just to be hammered. And Every Second Counts, what a tie in for everything everytime that has come up this season.
I love Ritchie, he's my favourite character, I think he's just tried so hard and keeps coming up short, this episode really showed he can get it done and feel proud of himself for it.
14:20 just had a similar experience to this, spent a week at a different workplace for study, enjoyed it, and by the end had a sort of empty feeling that i might not experience it again
ICYMI, The photo of Luca and Carmine: Remember what Luca said to Marcus about working with that chef that made him realize that he wasn't the best. Definitely talking about Carmine.
We actually get to know already how/when things go down for Richie. Remember at the childrens birthday catering when cicero asked him why he wasn't doing the job he gave him. And when it turned out cicero gave the clients mike's number so Richie never even got any calls or messages from clients.
One of the best episodes so far, imo. Richy has to see that he has worth, too. That everybody in the kitchen matters. Without the chef, it falls apart. Without the dishwasher, it falls apart. Without the guy who just polishes forks? It falls apart. That he matters. But then his self-sabotaging/self-esteem kicks in. He's only there as punishment... Carmie just needed Richy out of the way... I thought I was doing a good job but they don't want me... So on and so forth. All sorta stemming from his ideas about Carmie and his perceived worth in "Mr Hotshot's eyes," mixed with his ex he was clearly still trying to foster a relationship with and that general sense of rejection or "they don't want/need me." Especially when he keeps getting these emotional Ws that lift him up and he's the first one in line to cut himself down. Hopefully he takes this energy into The Bear and understands his cousin _wants_ him there. That he sent him up there to learn, not to be pushed aside or punished. That he brings as much value to the restaurant as any other member of the team. Because he is clearly looking for that purpose he was feeling this episode and immediately wanted to latch on. I just hope he isn't a stranger. Got some vibes from the restaurant experience woman.
Such a great episode. This was the episode that made me realize Richie is this show's version of Jesse Pinkman. He's kind of a dirtbag and rough around the edges but you start to realize he's really the heart of the series.
agreed. ive always felt like he was the glue of every character - hes the common denominator. like you said, the heart of the show. this episode just cemented it.
i feel like they definitely moved Richie's phone call to Carmy to later in the episode than it was originally placed for some reason. it fits much better his attitude on the first day or after the phone call with Tiff or something. i wonder why they moved it.
They definitely didn't. It was Richie realizing this moment of good, feeling confident, wasn't going to last. He was leaving and going back to that same shitty life he had before he left. So he regressed, his intrusive thoughts took over, and his self-worth plummeted. It is all too realistic.
I've watch this episode so many times. Cousin was below Carmy as my favourite and now Richie is #1 in my books. Forks is my fav episode. plus seeing Olivia Coleman was classic.
My favourite episode of the whole season. Not many people understand the importance of this episode. Here we got a 45 year old male who is essentially a loser and he finally finds his purpose. Not many people know how that feels.
Here’s Richie’s redemption arc. I love that the show starts with him being a total pos and then hanging all this humanity on him. Maybe the heart of the entire show.
I mean, I feel like my wallet would know, for sure. But I've been to what my area considers great restaurants, yet can and have done better with a random pan at home. Spazzing over visual blemishes that you yourself could fix on the spot is insane behavior, regardless of tax bracket.
