In the mid 1960s, The Beatles were set on making a Lord of the Rings musical movie adaption. They wanted Stanley Kubrick to direct, and they even asked J. R. R. Tolkien for his blessing. The band cast themselves in the roles of Frodo, Sam, Gandalf, and Gollum. The movie was an ambitious venture that never saw the light of day.
Eventually, the trilogy would be made by Peter Jackson, just without the involvement of the band.

The Beatles would have destroyed LOTR if they were allowed to make a adaptation. It would be Sound of Music LOTR feeling to it, it just would have destroyed the legacy in my view

I can imagine John relishing the idea of playing Gollum. Or, if not him, Tom Bombadil. Either way, I wonder if this was the reason for the "four wizards" in "Magical Mystery Tour" later on.

Interesting Video! To Be Honest, I’m Actually Sad This Movie Wasn’t Made, Because I Find The Idea Of A Lord Of The Rings Movie Starring The Beatles Interesting, Fun, And Amazing. I’ve Also Heard This Wasn’t The Only Time Lord Of The Rings Failed To Hit The Big Screens. One Of J. R. R. Tolkien’s Publishers Asked Disney About Making An Animated Movie Based On Lord Of The Rings, But Disney Rejected The Idea. I’ve Also Heard Miramax (A Company Disney Owned) Was Supposed To Distribute Peter Jackson’s Lord Of The Rings, But Something Happened And The Movie Was Then Moved To New Line Cinema. Also, By The Way, Can You Do A Video On The Original Version Of Shrek That Would Have Starred Chris Farley?

That attempt at Lord of the Rings deserves it’s own dedicated video. There’s so much wrong with it that I wouldn’t be able to do it justice as an aside in a different video.

Misleading. Tolkien didn't live near any of The Fabs, he's clearly talking about a Beatle-style group making a racket nearby, not THE Beatles. He was in Oxford, and then Bournemouth, they were in Surrey, or Central London.
