It's definitely blues influenced. He even mentions Muddy Water. Muddy Waters was a master of the blues.

Fully original and most people would not appreciate it but one or two steps on, people can come along with ..Mostly musicians develop something already there,

From Wikipedia: Based on the 1956 single "You Can't Catch Me" by the American guitarist Chuck Berry, Lennon's composition began as an up-tempo blues number, only slightly altering Berry's original lyric of "Here come a flattop / He was movin' up with me" to "Here come ol' flattop / He come groovin' up slowly" so you were right at one point.

And Paul McCartney said ti him that he couldn't do such a song like that, because it was so close to the original, so McCartney suggested to slowdown the song and so here we have Come Together like this!

This is before Led Zeppelin. Beatles did so many type of genres. They’re the ultimate band for a reason

Actually contemporaneous with Led Zeppelin. This was released in '69, same as LZ I and LZ II.

ACe, after you finish reading what I’m going to write, sit down and reflect upon it, ok ? When I first thought of this, it blew my mind. They wrote more than 300 songs, had more #1 hits than any other band before or since. They have sold more albums than any other band and are regarded by most people as the greatest band and songwriters, ever. Here’s the part that blew me away : … when they broke up, they were all of them, still in their twenties. Let that sink in for a moment.

Don't dwell too much on the meaning. This was John's answer to the original rap songs--like Dylan's Subterranean Homesick Blues.

John Lennon song. He was very into the blues. So was Led Zep. Small world. Listen to 'I Want You (She's So Heavy)' from the same album. More blues from the Beatles.

Its pre Led Zeplin, so you have to say more acurately Led Zeplin have some Beatle vibes ,Which nearly every band did , That is why Beatles were so highly rated , Yes its blues but not as ever heard befor and that is the trick of originality , Fully original and most people would not appreciate it but one or two steps on, people can come along with.Saying "come from" with The Beatles is nearly always wrong unless you refering to music befor 1960 in a Beatles you seem to hear song ..

In the Coldplay song High Speed, that's a really good ear - they are very very similar although they are in different keys. In that song, the bass guitar does a pattern that's what I think of as a bit more normal, it does that little climb up to the 7th, where is Paul McCartney goes up a minor 3rd above the octave. So it's very similar but it just makes it more unique somehow. But other than that, the pattern is really really close.

When people compare a Beatles song to some other group, its funny ... its funny because The Beatles are always the FIRST to be playing the style or to be creating that sound.

The chorus has been in ads these last 20 years or so...beach boys, the beatles, their songs are ubiquitous in world culture & have bern for decades: film, television, advertisments, video games, sports arenas, talk show, & radio talk show bumper music...u hear many of the old songs somewhere, & at some point, theyre all 50+ year old songs these days

The song does have a bluesy feel but I think it's also very funky. I believe Beck sampled it on his song, Where It's At. Great way to start the Abbey Road album!

At one point the Beatles went to visit and be enlightened by some Indian spiritual leader. John, who wrote the song, eventually became cynical of said spiritual leaders' sincerity. This song is supposedly about that.

Of course back when this was popular, 45 RPM records -- singles - were released on vinyl with a song pressed on both sides of the record. And the other side of "Come Together" was, arguably, the most beautiful love song ever recorded. Check out "Something" by The Beatles. BTW: Less talking would benefit you.

I'd consider it kind of a dark blues sound with mostly nonsensical lyrics that just cintribute to the ultimate point which is just the bad ass atmosphere. Its all about the atmosphere. So creative.

I went and listened to High Speed by Coldplay and I see (hear) what you mean about the bass at the end of that song...very similar! I've always loved this song, Come Together. I remember the day my brother brought this album home. I was six years old and I watched him pin up the little posters of each Beatle that came with the album.

I'm struggling to think of a Led Zeppelin song that's like this. Misty Mountain Hop? Ringo and Bonham are about as different as it gets with rock drummers. It actually reminds me a bit of a Paul composition, Come and Get It, recorded by Foghat. It has a very swampy, mellow and slightly creepy feel to it. I guess I'd call it swamp blues with a jazzy vibe. Also feels a little like I Put a Spell on You, the CCR version. But it's really its own thing.

The tune and opening lines are a rip-off, I mean tribute to Chuck Betty's "You Can't Catch Me". After being sued John Lennon had to record an album of 50s songs to pay back the rights holders. Last great John number ?
@tomheim9516
@tomheim9516 Месяц назад
Rip-off is (I think) a bit extreme. While Lennon was definitely inspired by Chuck Berry’s original, the two songs are vastly different. If Lennon hadn’t borrowed a few lyrics like the ‘flat top’ line, I doubt the lawsuit would have been successful. You can’t win a lawsuit based on a blues chord progression. The courts would be clogged up for decades.
