“The Beatles never played it live…”Which means they never played it again in their entire career as a band, even for themselves. It’s mind blowing. imagine Sinatra recording My Way once in studio then never singing it again the rest of his life. The Beatles were unique.
That is mind blowing they never played it again as a band, and I think it’s in their top 5 best songs. I would rate it higher but so many of their melodies are so beautiful it’s hard to rate their songs. It’s safe to say they just don’t write songs like this anymore! That casino has a very distinctive sound that’s heard on several of their albums.
No way… was listening to this song just earlier today on a long train journey and, as with each time I’ve listened to it, I heard that closing lick you said is Harrison using a volume pedal and wondered at it… I was ALWAYS convinced it was horns. I marvelled at the fact that the Beatles must’ve commanded such power at EMI that they could hire a horn section just for the closing bar of a song and never use it anywhere else on the track. But it’s a volume pedal… of course. Now I hear it. You ALWAYS reveal something new, Mr P, even on songs I’ve listened to since birth. 👍
I'm in awe of your background knowledge of the Beatles songs and your ability to break down the musical sections. I've listened to these songs for fifty years and never heard the intricacies you bring to the table. You may think not another song, but you've got me listening again like I've never done before. Thank you.
No need to be "in awe of (my) background knowledge." I simply do a LOT of research in books and on the web, take notes and then deliver the info. Truth-be-told I probably forget MOST of what I've said the day after taping the lesson.
That was over the top fantastic Mike! Definitely one of my favorite Beatles tunes. Their harmonies on that song are incredible! Pure musical genius and played to perfection by Paul & George! Thanks again for keeping their music alive & well. Hope that things are good in France! 👍👍🎸🎸🎤🎤🥁🥁👏👏
This song is a great example of the Beatles economy of combo playing and production. One rhythm guitar, lead guitar only on fills in the bridge, bass, drums and vocals. Can you imagine if Phil Spector produced this! He would have had 10 stacked guitars , 3 pianos and a choir! Great lesson, thank you.
Thank you very much Mike, you made a awesome and beautifull job, and your teaching is really the best. Keep on teaching all the wonderfull music of. The ❤Fab ❤Four❤
Thanks for another great video lesson on the Beatles. This is one of my favorite songs. Also, you reminded me of how much I learned from them about chord shapes, voicings, and picking. I also greatly appreciate your insights on the background to the songs and the many nuances of how they were played and recorded.
Watching you put together the songs is amazing to me. I'm starting to understand the magic of creating a song. Thank you sooooooooooooo much. That's not a typo. Sincerely.
@@MPfrance I'd expect nothing less Mike. You are a talented guy! I pride myself in my ability to "hear" the right chords in a song etc, but you take it to the next level with detail.
Incredible breakdown. I can’t get enough of these Beatle lessons. BTW, the Sonic Blue strat with the rosewood fretboard is one of my wishlist guitars. Unfortunately my guitar playing skills could never do it any justice. 😂
Looking at all your comments, I see that you are so loved, Mike. Indeed I smile opening one of your videos and see that many others have been helped as I have been. Doesn't it feel good to impact the world in a positive way. That's a statement not a question. Thank you so much.
HaHa - I feel it sacrilegious to see a McCartney part played right handed so I horizontally flip it in the sound-alikes. It is shown right-handed during the lesson tho'...
One of my favorites. I love the alt. take off anthology. Paul really sounds angeic on that one. That Bm to Bb really grabs you. Also like the modulation to Bb later in the song. Just great. Is there an acoysic part buried in the mix? Oh, and nice lesson....✌️👍
Thanks for doing this song. This one has always kicked my arse because of its lack of rock rhythm. I get asked to play this one often. I'll work on it now. Charts snd tabs always help.
Always enjoy your lessons and the great detail you go to, especially with their early tracks. Have you considered doing Every Little Thing from the Beatles For Sale album. Keep up the good work.
Speaking of George, Cloud Nine is about my favorite album, maybe you could teach some stuff from that? Thanks Mike always waiting for your next lesson. I have learned so much!!!
Thanks, Mike. Paul has said he and John included preambles because they were influenced by the standards. John did it on If I Fell. Strangely, Paul changed the words to "I need a love of my own" when he played it on Give My Regards to Broad Street and for some time after. I think he's gone back to "here" now.
JR - Thanks for the kudos. FYI - They're simply singing triads. The same as what's being played. For G (sing G B D) Am (A C E) Bm (B D F#) C (C E G) etc.etc.
Beautiful as always, Mike, I’d love to see a lesson on Hey Bulldog (maybe with an inclusion of McCartney’s bass part since that’s one of his best bass lines), I Need You, The Night Before or And Your Bird Can Sing sometime
