I think its fair to say that we are living on planet Beatles right now.

I'm in Oz and saw McCartney twice this week. At the Gold Coast concert he only made a passing reference to the new song PAUL WAS FAB COME BACK SOON!!

I am surprised nobody is talking about the domino piece in the back cover, because it is quite significant. For me it represents how the Beatles first lost John and became a trio and then lost George and became a duo. How appropiate for a song called Now And Then. That should have been the main cover !!!!

I bought the cd single and I bought the Red and Blue cds. The original Red and Blue (cassettes in my case) were an important part of my Beatle history. My older brother bought them. I knew of the Beatles but I never really listened to them. Once I got a hold of them I listened to them ad nauseam. So I need the new version. I do love the new song, the more I hear it the more I love it. Great video!

I love the song and the video. I don't always go all in with these releases, but I couldn't help it this time. This first and only new Beatles song in my life, so this is a once in a lifetime event. So, I bought the black and red 12" singles, all 4 7" singles, the cassette, both 6lp sets, the 4 cd red and blue, and the cd single. The only thing I missed was the 10". I had heard about Now and Then for years and was really hoping that would one day be finished. I am incredibly happy with the result. :) I am glad you are too!

Hi Andrew, I agree, they should have used a slim jewel case, like they did for FAAB & RL. Once I get mine in the mail, I will put mine in a jewel case. But I will use the back cover with the clock as the main cover. I like that a lot better! 😊 🍏 🎸🎸🥁🎸

Interesting info cheers - I'm waiting for my cd single to arrive, I was hoping for a slim jewel case version too. Given the official store still hasn't despatched my cd yet suggests it was a later option to offer it (as my other format despatched on launch day and arrived on the day after)

Great informational video. I'm still waiting for my copy. As the version of Love Me Do on the CD is a vinyl rip, it will be interesting to see how the stereo demix technology stands up.

John's voice is so clear that scares. Vinyls weew made in Germany, where the magical mystery tour-adventure of the Fab Four began, what a way to close a circle of many generations.

I was tempted to buy the CD single, but in my opinion, it doesn't really complete the Anthology CD singles. To me, Free As A Bird and Real Love were part of the Anthology experience, where Now and Then stands alone. Plus, I'm disappointed in just the two tracks on this CD. If it had an exclusive track like an instrumental version, that one addition would have sold it for me. FAAB and RL received 3 extra exclusive tracks that were not on the Anthology sets (I think). So to get Now and Then on CD, I'm just going to buy the Red and Blue sets, as I never bought those before.

I don't mind the Ed Rushca artwork, but given the background story and the Peter Blake style, seems like a no-brainer to use the clock as the primary artwork for the single? Nice that we've got both options though, I'll likely knock-up a jewel case cover using the clock image, so it sits nicely alongside the FAAB and Real Love CD singles.

And thank you for spring out the significance of the reverse cover. I wonder why it was not chosen as the Front cover for the single, given its pertinent relevance. Fairly recent subscriber to your channel which I really enjoy. Waiting for my CD to arrive but in the meantime have just bought the hi-res 24/96 tracks from Qobuz. They sound fantastic and cost around £2 for both. Wow!!

Simple for me. They never announced CD version until last minute, which resulted in the fans buying the single twice ( as I did ). Had CD been available at the start of the campaign, people may have bought that version only. This help it get to number one.

Cheers for this Andrew, awaiting mine in a few days. Obviousoy it was rush released when Apple realised that people actually want it on CD! Hence the bare bones packaging. But no complaints here, as CD's still remain my favourite format.

I found the initial release of the audio to be distorted but the audio on the music video very balanced with some DR. Any way you can compare that to the CD version?

Hello Andrew, Great video. I love that the pic of George’s clock was used, it’s another way of remembering George!!! That cd single package is a Shame. The price is The best when compared to the tape and vinyl but it sure is to bad it’s not in a thin case. I really don’t like cardboard cases. I with the sound quality was louder for the new mix but hey what can we do maybe on the red it will be improved. Great video thank you take care

I still have my original of FAAB and Real Love singles I purchased on vinyl, cassette and cd. In America we did not get the slim cd cases for the single idk why they don’t use the cd cases no more. I don’t like the digipaks or cardboard sleeves for cds. Thanks for showing. Take care!

Hello Andrew - thanks for the video! Some details regarding "Love Me Do", going back to the basics ... Disregarding the 6 June 1962 version of "Love Me Do" with Pete Best on drums, there were 2 different recordings made of "Love Me Do": (v1) recorded 4 September 1962 with Ringo on drums [this is the original single version, which is now on the "Now And Then" CD single], and, (v2) recorded 11 September 1962 with Andy White on drums and on which Ringo played tambourine [this is the original album version]. Important note: the original twin-track tapes of "Love Me Do" [ditto for for "P.S. I Love You", "She Loves You", and "I'll Get You" - going by memory, I believe that "Ask Me Why" is also MONO] were "discarded", which likely means that they re-used the tapes for other EMI recordings! I believe there were a few occasions when "Love Me Do" was released in *fake* STEREO, but, the "golden" master tapes of the song were purely MONO. Both the MONO and STEREO 2009 remasters of PLEASE PLEASE ME contain "Love Me Do" in MONO, and, it's the Andy White-on-drums album version (v2). According to the "1" CD booklet, track 1 "Love Me Do" is the 11 September 1962 *album* version (v2) and (as you'd expect) it is in MONO, since that's the only true source. Thus, when you were comparing the new CD single containing the remixed [more on that below] "Love Me Do" -- which is derived from "Love Me Do" v1 -- to the 2009 remasters -- which both came from "Love Me Do" v2 -- you are actually comparing 2 entirely different recordings, i.e. v1 was made on 4 September 1962 vs. v2 was made on 11 September 1962. As for the "Love Me Do" remix, don't forget that the source material was MONO. Using new technology, they are able to extract voices and instruments to individual tracks (most likely on ProTools or something similar). Once they have "deconstructed" the MONO sounds by extracting the recording's elements (voices, instruments, etc.), they can then create a STEREO mix. And, with those elements extracted, they can balance and emphasize the sounds that they want to, and, each element gets more clarity. The mix for "Love Me Do" is not a terribly wide mix [I'm not being negative, just stating my observation], and, you can best determine that by listening with headphones. Using the old but reliable analog clock method to describe the STEREO spread/field: the voices are centered at 12 o'clock, harmonica is located at say half past 11, bass is at 10 or 11 o'clock, drums are at 1 o'clock, hand claps are at 1 or 2 o'clock .... there's nothing detectable at 9 o'clock or 3 o'clock. (i.e. there no sounds out wide in the mix) In the past, Beatles fans have laboriously created their STEREO mixes of Decca Audition material and the few Beatles songs that were only MONO, but, it's great having official remixes of those coming, too. I'm looking forward to hearing what they've done to remix "She Loves You" into STEREO. Mike P.S. the original RED album contained "Love Me Do" in MONO, but, I can't recall whether it was v1 or v2 (but, I would guess that it was v2)

Hi Andrew, on the screen I read the credits for 'Love me Do'. I could read the credit in block black print to 'MPL Communications Ltd', but not the fainter writing against the darker Apple label nearer the bottom. Could you print out all the credits, for the curious? I wonder, is there some corporate shift between MPL Communications, Northern Songs/ATV/Sony Music Corp, and Apple etc as to who owns the song publishing rights, the performance, and who owns the present remix of the song with 'Love me Do'. I had read about the clock story did you see Olivia. On Jools Holland she was in the audience She only spoke a few words it was nice to see her The clock artwork is lovely.

Ordered a copy from Amazon last Wednesday with a delivery date for yesterday. That got put back until today. Now I’ve just had an email stating they are have a delivery or despatched problem, which probably translates as an out of stock cock up. Now their website states not available and don’t know if they will be getting anymore. I’m really annoyed about this if it turns out to be a limited edition.

Which of the different versions is limited edition? Which one do you recommend I buy?

I purchased cd single for £3.95 so to make it worthwhile for postage I have the black vinyl single arriving with it. I am waiting for the white and blue marble one but I reckon that will arrive with my red and blue colour vinyl set.

What about the sound of ‘Love Me Do’ regarding the new stereo separation?

The back clock artwork would've made a much better cover than the chosen artwork.

I didn't think there would be so little stock of the normal black 7" . Ordered from one local store and they didn't get any copy from Universal, maybe only the cd single sometime. The 7" was originally the only version I wanted but watching Andrew's video about the 12" and also reading about the sound quality I ordered a copy. Looks I got lucky soon after I placed my order it went out of stock. With this release you almost needed to order on the day of the announcement or you miss out. I thought I could take it easy, hear if I like the song first, which fortunatley I do and then maybe walk into a shop one day and buy a copy. In the end I got one copy of the blue 7" which there seem to be enough copies pressed and available, 12" black vinyl on its way and then the cd single with the Blue and Red cd's in a box on order from the Beatles store.

I wonder if George made the clock connection too in the 90s when they were working on it originally? I read one comment as a way of seeing the front cover as being linked to the red and blue albums? Don't know. Maybe...

Do you expect a physical release of the music video anytime soon?

I do not know if has already been mentioned or not but I thought it was going to be a double A side single - It looks like Now and Then is definitely going to be Number 🎉One in the UK Charts on Friday - down to physical sales plus downloads and streaming etc - Does that mean now that Love me do will now not re - enter the charts? There is no stereo version of the single version of Love Me Do on the 2009 box. This recording has only ever been in mono before.

Interestingly, Amazon US isn’t showing a CD single at all. I’ve ordered my copy through Amazon IK. It shows as being sent… but by Australia Post Global, which seems rather strange…

I’m being a bit picky, but how was the print quality on your disc? The credits were illegible in places on my copy.

Hi Andrew - I agree with your observation that on the CD version at least that the 2023 remix of Love Me Do does somewhat surprisingly sound quieter than previous releases although I suppose that the days of the mid - nineties when remastering simply meant making tracks louder to please the ' bass boost ' generation are thankfully behind us. I recall an interview with Paul Mccartney where he revealed that he felt nervous and apprehensive about recording his vocal for Love Me Do. I think this really shows through on this 2023 remix and you can hear the uneasiness in his voice. What a contrast to the confident young mop- top that would be belting out Can't Buy Me Love some 18 months later ! The latest remix also highlights the sheer rawness of John Lennon's harmonica part not heard previously.

Do you expect remixes of the albums that have not been box sets to be released? I doubt the early albums have much that could be added for bonus discs. I am trying to decide if getting the red and blue sets make sense or will be redundant when remixed albums are released.

I totally agree with you on your comments of the Now and Then CD release. For the first time since 1968 I was hesitant to the News of the pending release of 62-66 + 67-70 Albums. Sadly these albums have been expanded to three vinyls additional tracks not in chronological order + the up dating on most of the tracks are not even recent then only Now and Then appears on 67-70 with the real absence of Free as a Bird / Real Love. Sadly this release demonstrates it has been composed by New Management of Apple? When we could of had the luxury of Magical Mystery Tour Box Set / Yellow Submarine Box Set its very dis heartening.

I wonder, did the artist that made the clock put the small image of The Beatles at the bottom when he created it, or was that added for this release?

Is the time a bit short for a late decision to issue a CD-single and get it out?

So how does it compare to the 12-inch vinyl? I've read complaints that the vinyl is too compressed as well. Anyhow, I'm a bit envious of folks who already have this in hand. I ordered the vinyl as soon as it showed up in the Beatles online store, and it still hasn't shipped.

In the very last second of Now And Then, there's a very quiet voice. Anybody know what it says? Something like "You get one" or "A good one".

Does bitrate vary on CD audio? I thought it was always 16 bit, 44.1 kHz which is 1411 kbps?

Mine arrived late Saturday evening which was unusual but very welcome. The dark Apple 🍏 label is a wee bit disappointing as it’s very difficult to read the label credits etc. I wish they had included the info sheet as supplied with the 12” vinyl. Like you I had also hoped the CD single matched the other 90s slimline jewel cases including the Baby It’s You single. Overall though I’m very pleased to have it and in my opinion it was very reasonably priced. Re MPL credits: Paul got control of Love Me Do & PS I Love You many years back now and MPL credit was featured on several releases. More recently he’s regained his publishing credits for most of his Beatles output so expect to see MPL credits on the new Red when it launches next Friday.

@AndrewDixonMusic .... a good Sunday to you mate... I purchased the 7 inch splattered colored vinyl and the 7inch black vinyl of Now & Then. Also looking to get the 2023 Red & Blue Cd set. Definitely Now & Then sounded more of a 1995 Anthology Session song. Giles and Paul did a decent piece of work to complete it. Most surprising was the overwhelming amount of interest in the 2023 remixed package of The Red & Blue new Compiled list of songs. Like yourself, I'm an very much looking forward to the remixes of The Rubber Soul songs. Also,, did you happen to see Variety Giles Martin interview ?! He clearly stated, there will be other projects for 2024, however No Rubber Soul box set in 2024. Looks now it will be 1965 60th anniversary.

Does the CD single actually contain the 2023 mix of LMD? On the streaming version it says 2022 remaster. I’m curious as to whether this is just a misprint or it is actually different? Was LMD remastered for the anniversary in 2022?

Would be nice if the cd-single contained a little insert as the other issues.

Hi mate , fully agree with your thinking regarding the "late" release of the CD Single.I too assumed it would have been released in a Jewel CD Case with some other remixed inclusions as per the previous other 2 Singles.The CD Slip case looks cheap.As for the Clock Cover have a look at Matthew Streets' video of this , you will find it interesting. I am a bit annoyed at the moment here in Sydney Aust , we have no HMV Shops here anymore but we have Elelctronic Shops like JB Hi Fi. They also sell vinyl and cds .However try buying certain Beatles items especially the new Now & Then media and there is virtualy nothing in store to order or on line. Went up to the counetr spoke to a young girl and asked if they were getting in the CD Single Now & Then by the Beatles. She said who? and had to look it up then said no we dont have any orders coming. Looks like I will haveto import the single from your way. As you can see Andrew Aust is hoplesss with trying to purchase this media.!

Apparently they are still raking in the vinyl sales in U.S. CD not yet available on Amazon in U.S. I will wait.

The cover of Now and Then I think is a Paul design. In thoughts they should have done an E.P. of Free as a Bird, Real Love and Now Love.

I'm a bit disappointed that the information included with the vinyl singles isn't included on the CD single somewhere. Odd that they got the mastering right for the b-side, but not the a-side.

Did anybody notice the change in the drumhead behind George in 1995 in the documentary versus Peter Jackson's music video? It looks like the Suzy and the Red Stripes drumhead was changed to a Beatles MMT one by Jackson. A little digital trickery!

I keep saying this to everyone and I don't know if anyone else has picked up on it but on the picture of the clock there a are the dice and the buttons..add up the numbers of the dots on the dice and buttons it comes to 9.. that right guys 9.. John's favourite number....hope everyone can spot it now (or then) pardon the punt..i also believe the clock reads 1.53....1+5+3=9...forgot to add that sorry guys.
