I eat beets the Greek way. In a bowl add cut up beets (after boiling), add onion, olive oil, red wine vinegar (or ACV), spices to taste (salt, pepper, garlic powder or fresh garlic cloves, adding lemon is optional) mix and let it marinate/stand in the bowl for about an hour. It's delicious and if you don't finish it all it can be stored in the refrigerator for a while because beets last very well in the fridge.
Even though this is a 5 year old video, it is still extremely relevant today. Thank you, Dr. Berg for your knowledge and compassion. Please keep educating us.
Dr. Berg, thank you for teaching all of this on RU-vid, I've used all the things I've learned about liver detox to reverse my insulin resistance and loose 75 lbs (dropped 5 pant sizes , lost 17% body fat and 15 inches in the waist), I ordered your adrenal cortisol supplements and I feel a big relief to stress and it was the first one I took, also purchased your special cod liver supplements and they has no taste or smell and no burping , I look and feel 10 years younger, it's taken 18 months to get this far! Thanks again
I just had a huge beet salad with arugula, radishes, arugula/broccoli micro greens, broccoli sprouts, with a bit of oranges, extra virgin olive oil, lemon, and pink Himalayan salt...it was DELICIOUS! 😋
@@Alchemist523 just add lemon juice, or take vitamin C after eating it. Citric acid dissolves the oxalates that can cause kidney stones. But beets don’t have much. You would have to eat an insane amount of beets every day in order to generate kidney stones.
Been eating about 3 to 5 beets per day for a few weeks. My blood pressure at work was 102 over 62. They actually asked if I felt ok. As much as I'd like to go home early, I felt fine.
I take beet pill supplements (200mg beet root/day) and my blood pressure in two weeks went from 142/96 to 124/84. Of course, I'm dieting and exercising, but when my numbers were barely moving with that alone I started taking the beet supplements. Good stuff.
Beet powder is great too if you can't juice beets. One beet juiced equals one table spoon of beet powder. Sugar content is unclear but it tastes 'earthy'. I usually add 3 grams L-citrolline, 6 grams Leucine and 25 grams milled flax seed and make a morning and pre-workout drink. So much healthier than commercial energy drinks.
I enjoy eating the Golden Beets raw. Taste something like a Carrot. The only issue is if I eat them by themselves it irritates and causes a burning throat. I have tried a chog of milk, and following it with my meal to help the burning sensation. I have White Coat so I eat beets the couple of days before going to the doctor to have my blood pressure taken. I try grading my daily amount on my salad and see if the irritation lessens.
Dr. Berg your endless wonderful articles have changed my life. I have lost 25 pounds of fat and I am completely transformed. I am doing your kale shake every day and now I am adding beats that formula. Thank you so much
Dr Berg I love beats I'm a diabetic but I like to make the beats in my shake with beets spinach and an apple I know you said to shave them because of the fiber but mixing it up in the shake will it break down the beat so bad that it won't be enough fiber to keep it from turning the sugar so quick
I have been eating beets for many years. all my life in fact.....I love them so much, I add them to everything including my juices and I also drink beet juice. I really love the pickled beets the best
I have Hashimoto's, and have dealt with it for approximately twelves years after diagnosis. By listening to your videos and comparing other patients, who have had excellent results in going gluten free, etc. and limiting one's diet, I have found good relief. Since that time, I bought and have been using a Vitamix blender for about a month, daily, and I can see improvements; however, my digestive system seems to have been shaken up by the high fiber and the use of all these beneficials vegetables and fruits. So, besides reducing the smoothies or the complexity of the ingredients, what can be done to not feel so out of it? Before starting this protocol . . . I was overall feeling good in the igestive track, things overall seemed to improve with occassional bouts of constipation, etc. Now, there seems to be moments of irritation, possible inflamation, and definitely a very uncomfortable and at times pain. I have increased probiotics, which took a lot of bloating and pain away, along with enzymes, along with an occasional enema; however, even after doing a parasite cleanse before starting the blendings with kale, spinach, etc. there still seems to be a reluctance of the body to accept this change. You hear so much contradictions, and it becomes a using of yourself like a lab rat to see what your body accepts and doesn't. I realize that each of us is different, and with different internal situations that we cannot see, except, perhaps, by external symptoms . . . but it still seems that there could be a more definitive process -- especially for those of us on a fixed income that cannot afford all the testings and proddings, etc. The Vitamix was a going out on the limb in order to iimprove health -- not increase uncomfortability and irritation.
Indeed, not everyone can take everything raw. I have huge trouble with apples and broccoli. I now just eat cucumbers and soft vegetables raw and cook/stir fry the rest as short as possible yet still see tremendous benefits.
@@riccia9674 wow. In 2014 I overdosed on broccoli eating it raw and cooked . It was cheap and delicious and it started my irritable bowel syndrome that is still with me in 2019. Much relieved since I have been doing keto for 3 weeks
I heard about it also having the uric acid.. which can cause Gout.. so moderation is key.. Beets (Oxalates)Beets, like most vegetables, are , but they are rich in another chemical compound called oxalates. Less common than purines, oxalates have the same effect in the human body: increasing uric acid levels in the blood. Add beets to your list of foods to avoid with gout.Jun 12, 2020
This may be TMI, but I consistently drank smoothies with a good amount of beets days before my period. Let me tell you, seems like they definitely impacted flow!!!
Omg that's good news. I was terrified when he said it lower estrogen and increase testosterone. I have scanty period and I think I have low estrogen (so dry skin, only fat around belly, facial hair etc) so you think it can balance estrogen? Or at least not make it lower
@JessieJ-tm7sn Most natural supplements or foods (like beets) used as medicine will simply balance your hormones. Anything that is good for the liver will help your hormones and menstrual cycle since your liver is processing your hormones which drive the process.
Cook up a couple of beets, dice them (or just use a can of diced beets). Add a couple of chopped apples and mix in mayo to keep it together. Optional: chopped celery and or nuts. Just a simple delish salad.
OMG the mayo added 😏 I thought only us Haitians do that I LOVE IT!!! I just had 3 beets and diced them up and 1 1/2 tbsp of mayo mixed together DELICIOUS!!!!
Thanks Dr. Berg. I just bought 3 nice size bunches of beets from work. I'm doing keto, and just didn't know if it was a good idea to eat the beet itself, due to the sugar, but ya...I can shred them into my salads. Thanks again Dr. Love your videos.
Ferment the beets is very easy, you'll find plenty of videos here and fermenting them gets rid of the sugar, oxolates and won't affect your kidneys and you will still get all the benefits and more is probiotic when fermenting them, and you can use the green leaves and red stalks for smoothies.
In my country we eat pickled beets , it is first cooked , sliced and then putted in vinegar mix . It is consumed as a salad during winter . Is there any benefits off that keeping in mind that beets are cooked.
i bought 4 beets today ($1.69) and steamed them. i ate some and it was tasty. i put two in my nutri bullet and made juice, more like a smoothie. cost was inline with Superbeets, so ordered that for convenience. bought 2 got 1 free. $80. 3 months worth.
I had heard that beets were really good for you. But I have stayed away from beets because of the sugar in the beets and oxalic acid in the greens. I now think the good outweighs the bad in beets.
I have been drinking celery + beet + ginger juice after morning yoga for few weeks now. I feel the instant boost of energy. I know eating is better than juicing should I worry about higher sugar intake ??
~I always wear a beet-preparing-friendly outfit, due to an unfortunate beet accident, many years ago, where beet juice splashed on my favorite clothes, the curtains, & carpet~
I have psoriasis and beets aggravate it. So do onions and sweet potatoes. My physician told me to stop eating root vegetables. So I have pretty much stopped eating them and my psoriasis has gotten a lot better. I can tolerate garlic if I don't go too heavy with it.
@Zechs Marquise lol no theres hell a lot of difference between refined sugar and sugars in wholefoods, they simply dont rush into your blood stream but rather slow and steady which your body can totally handle
I just bought a new blender got a bunch of beet tops added Apple cider vinegar , lemon juice and vitamin powder (no sugar). Didn’t taste too bad but I need to add ice I think to make it colder but you get a lot of beet tops for four dollars and I don’t know what to do with the actual beets though
Well, MJ tried to tell us...but did we listen..?..sadly, no-one wants to be defeated and most were too concerned with showing how funky and strong was our fight... Remember: “it doesn’t matter whose wrong or right- just beet it” Words to live by.
Beets also contain oxalates and high sugar for keto.....good possibly when having beet juice powder a few hours pre weights session for pump...though easier to take 8gms citrulline malate
What ever doctor Eric berg says is all on point and his advices and knowledge is all on point and his point of views of things on healing is all on point !!!!!!
Dr. berg : Would you please suggest the benefits of white sugar beet, which is used to make Sugar. It also contains high amount of Fiber ( Both Crude and Soluble )
Dr. Berg, how much should we consume to rip the full benefits you've listed? Note- I'm a bodybuilder, so I'd like to utilize the N02 to its full potential. Thanks!
I like to coat the beets in olive oil, wrap in foil then roast for 1 hour to make them soft enough to eat. Will the heat destroy the good things in beets?
Dr, i discovered beet Kvass beverage (infused raw beets fermented with himalayan salt), less sugar in beets, it provides me probiotics too, very refreshing since it's slightly carbonated, please take a look at the recipe and tell us what do you think about it please.
Great video Dr Berg - Beetroot certainly seems to have amazing properties and you really notice it in the gym - you can just lift heavier and work out longer. Remarkable, especially when you look at all it's other benefits too.
@@Alchemist523. That's why fermenting them is the best way to eat them, you get all the benefits and they're probiotic and you can use the green leaves for smoothies.
What about all the side effects that beetroot has? If I’m going to blend it and add lemon juice and water, for how long should I drink it and how often should I stop consuming beetroot to avoid all those bad side effects that it has?
Thank you for the information. You do a very good job of identifying the things that turn quickly into sugar. I would just recommend eating the beats and not blending them into a smoothie. You can take a complex carb and turn it into a simple carb by breaking down the fiber pre ingestion. Its best to leave the fibers alone and let the body break them down. I did hear you say for a detox and maybe you only met smoothies for detox.
Dr. Berg -- is it possible to consume too many? If I eat one medium-size beet every day, could there be a downside to that? BTW, thank you for your very informative videos. You have a talent for providing essential info concisely (other uploaders can go off on tedious tangents) and using language that anyone would understand.
Great Video... Sir is it safe to just Eat one raw Beet everyday... Yes I can feel high energy levels, Good mental state etc.. But I'm scared if it may cause Calcium deficiency and other side effects.... Or should I consume it only 3/4 times a week.. Please answer
Hi Dr. Berg, Great video as always! What are the "nutrients" you refer to that "enable the metabolism of fat in the liver"? You are a true blessing! Thx! = )
@@vedicleo5286 Thanks for taking the time to answer this! I must have eventually figured it our cause I have choline in my cupboard now...lol. Thanks for reminding me what its for!!
