I have been watching many of your shows over this past year and I have learned so much. So once again, thank you Chef AJ for doing this!!! Fantastic service you are providing. I really appreciate what you are doing. Robby was an amazing presenter. His knowledge is impressive and his approach is so rational, reasonable, logical and sustainable. I loved how he explained to eat green light foods, choose your favorites from these and don’t obsess over numbers if you are eating the right foods. I don’t have diabetes but found his presentation to be excellent.

Asian markets sell this stuff called Mût Me. It’s Indian gooseberry preserve wrapped in 100 calories pacquettes, maybe 20 pacquettes come in a clear, plastic box. They put chili powder or something in there. There’s also a vine in the middle of the preserve. I keep them in my day bag for an energy backup in the event I ever run out of potatoes. They’re tasty but not so tasty that I can’t stop eating them. They’re just okay. Definitely not as appetizing as a potato - especially not as appetizing as a sweet potato. Careful with the hibiscus. More than a quart of it per day will erode your teeth - Greger covered this as well 👊🏼

Man, anyone listening to doctors are just flat-out SCREWED! I’ve finally figured out to keep my vegetable intake to 2lb purple cabbage in the morning after exercise (a couple hundred calories of berries or bananas before exercise if I feel low), then potatoes for the energy I need throughout the day. Then feasting on steamed veg at night: 3lbs of kale or 3-4lbs broccoli. Diabetics wouldn’t dare try eating like this, even though it would cure their Type II in a few weeks, manage their Type I better than their pill pushers could ever dream. It’s 105 in Tulsa for the next week-and-a-half. Feels great outside. Saving the vegetables for breakfast and at the end of the day, just snacking on potatoes throughout the day, keeps the belly flat and able to deal with the heat really REALLY well - saving the big bulk for feasting at night. The 1.5-2lbs cabbage for breakfast stays - it’s basically the most enjoyable thing ever. Rice vinegar and chile powder or garlic n lime or heavy cinnamon - it’s a truly wonderful existence. Unbelievable that doctors put their patients on the diet that causes their diseases. Truly criminal. They out to be put on the wall. You’re not being treated - you’re being managed 😡 Major plus to doing SOFAS-free 100% is that the most enjoyable treat ever is two pounds of steamed baby carrots smothered in cinnamon. It’s carrot cake. Shout out to Dr. Doug Lyle 🤗 HEAVEN 😇

Excellent show AJ. Robby's very knowledgeable, and of course, you did a great job interviewing him! However, I think that near the end of the show, the topic of the proper ratio of essential fatty acids (omega-3 & 6) in the diet was conflated/confused with the idea that some plant-based doctors espouse that it is advantageous to consume some fat with meals to maximize absorption of fat-soluble vitamins and healthful phytochemicals. For example, Dr. Fuhrman maintains that when you eat a salad with a nut or seed-based dressing, you absorb much more carotenoids that are present in the raw vegetables. He says more than 10 times as much of certain nutrients are absorbed. He maintains that "some people simply require more essential fatty acids, period". And he insists that he knows of lifelong vegans that succumb to dementia because they were unaware of the importance of maintaining a healthy omega-3 level. The omega 3 to omega 6 ratio in the diet is a different topic, as is what the minimum requirement of omega-3 for proper brain development and health is. In addition, not everyone adheres to a whole food, plant-based diet as closely or strictly as Robby does. Every ones conversion rate (ALA to EPA and DHA) is also different, and varies depending upon the age and gender of the person. Although everyone should be attempting to minimize or remove vegetable oils from the diet (largely omega-6) along with saturated fat, success at obtaining this goal will vary widely with each individual. The question may be, what is realistically achievable for most people and whether or not it's best to check omega-3 levels with a blood test to make sure they're in a favorable range. And to complicate the subject even more, Dr. Rhonda Patrick (a respected cell biologist) has published a paper regarding omega-3 DHA and supplementation and the brain. You can hear her speak about omega-3 and brain health here: www.foundmyfitness.com/episodes/omega-3-phospholipid-dha-and-supplementation-rhonda-patrick

I picked up a Sapote today. My only concern is that this will mean I’m going to eat fewer white potatoes today. Loving these white potatoes. I even have Hawaiians AND Japanese sweet potatoes. Really maximizing happiness here. My brain is telling me : this sapote BETTER be worth it. I suppose I can just have a little bit if it’s not worth giving up a potato. I know I can have more potatoes tomorrow. Brain doesn’t care. It wants maximum potatoes everyday. EVERY day. I guess this is what McDougall is referring to when he says to not eat too many vegetables. I want those potatoes. All of’em. Tearing up this broccoli right now. Just a pound and a half - the store didn’t have 2lb bags so I got two 12oz bags of frozen broccoli. They only had 2lb bags of broccoli stalks. Even though I know most of the nutrients are in the stalks, not the florets, I still want ten pounds of florets today. I wonder often how many pounds of broccoli I can eat. I think I can eat 30lbs in a day. But probably not. I remember when I tried to eat eight pounds of steamed vegetables for dinner - I couldn’t finish it. Five pounds per sitting is probably my hard limit. I’m having a cabbage after these broccolis. Then a white potato. Later I’m going to have another purple cabbage for dinner followed by a japanese sweet potato and leave out the white potato that I would have had with my Japanese sweet potato. And instead of my beloved Honeycrisp apple for dessert, I’m going to try this Sapote. So if I come on here and leave a nastygram, please don’t take it personally. It’s just that I’ll be comparing it to the almighty white potato. But I will be leaving an honest review because … I do NOT lie. Happy to be rewatching this broadcast. Robby is a gangster 👊🏼 Oh, I tried the Pumpkin Spice Amlagreen tea in my pot liquor from purple cabbage and sweet potatoes - oh boy. It’s insanely delicious. I’m a hibiscus boy as well. A few scoops of the hibiscus Amlagreen with plain water is FIRE. They really nailed the balance there. It’s crisp and refreshing and EVERYTHING I love about Hibiscus. I MASSIVELY recommend the Hibiscus and Pumpkin Spice Amlagreen. I really wish I would have known about these teas way sooner. I only started drinking teas a few months ago - I started and the coffee got pushed out of my life in a day. Never went back to coffee. These broccolis. Man. Oooooh, the cabbage is almost done. If you’re reading this, try these teas. Amazing. Sapote later. It’s chillin right now. Great broadcast 👊🏼

Thank you so much for bringing this Information to the world. I'm Type 2 diabetic. I just switched from keto to plant based diet. Eat l the fruit and veggies all I want. I feel like I'm gaining weight. I just lost 60 lbs. Is this normal? I'm doing plant based low fat. Why am I gaining anyway... help please.
@bitfinesse
@bitfinesse Год назад
Congratulations on switching to a healthy diet!! Fruit moves through us pretty fast. Counting calories is no way to live but it may be helpful to use Cronometer for a few days to see how many calories you’re eating on a typical day. Try to eat normally as you do now and log what you ate in Cronometer later so you don’t allow what Cronometer says to influence what you eat. You’ll get a more accurate caloric reading this way. Actually, I would just write down what you eat as you move through the day and log it the day after. You can Google “BMR Calculator” and see how close or far away your intake is from your BMR. I used to eat a banana-based diet. I was 60lbs heavier than I am now after switching to a potato-based diet. I can still over-eat on potatoes, it’s just easier to eat the correct amount of food while doing more potatoes than fruit. There’s a balance there, no doubt. I hope you find it, and I hope this helps. Stay in the fight. The world wants to take from us everything we’ll ever have.

Eating fruit is not the same as eating a starchy vegetable like potato. They are not equivalent. My suggestion to you, and I feel quite strongly about it -- is this: it is a really good idea to eat fruits NOT high in fructose. Fructose is processed in your liver and no where else. You DON'T want to overload a weak or sick liver by eating too much fructose. YOU DON'T WANT TO DO THAT!!!! Diabetics often have liver problems.

Since writing this comment I have found out that recent research has discovered that the fructose found in many fruits but not all fruits, is bound to pectin. It is unaffected by digestion and ends up in the large intestine where the microbiome feasts on it. This is why, for instance, apples which have a lot of sugar are considered to be moderately low on the glycemic index. I have been eating and enjoying a lot of these fruits and have had no problems.
