Having a simplified homeschool set up is so important! I find homeschooling and loving so much easier with minimalism. To me minimalism is just getting rid of what I don’t use. It makes what I do use easier to get to.

So true! The less I have to worry about, in addition to homeschooling, the better! Then I’m cleared up to homeschool and not bogged down with overwhelm. So freeing!

I’m doing this right now with my entire house I took over 5 van fulls of outgrown clothes and donated and filled nearly every free little library in our town lol it is definitely freeing

We did a great household purge in 2018-2019. Our home is so much calmer, and just better with less stuff.

That’s awesome! It’s amazing how we just collect stuff. I’m trying to be more intentional about what goes in to my house now but I’m realizing it’s just a constant declutter process

Enjoyed your video! We have four children and we live and homeschool with a more minimal mindset. We do have a larger home which would be tempting to fill since we have the space, but keeping things pared down and simple makes the home loads easier to maintain. Our children love and play with their simple toy collections and can spend up to two hours daily by themselves during quiet time with just a few. They have more space to run around without furniture in every corner and hallway, and the house can breathe! Highly simplified wardrobes also make their laundry easier to do- there’s never a pileup. I started to purge before my second child and continue to do so as it’s needed. I would guess 70-80% percent was donated in those first few months of minimal living. It felt so good to let go and make our spaces beautiful, simple and easy to clean. And an added benefit is that I stopped shopping just because I had free time. We are intentional each purchase now. I love the simplicity and am always hesitant to bring in inventory as I have to manage it. Loved seeing how you did that practically and your haul-always. Very motivating! It’s such a benefit for the whole family. God bless you!

I love this, especially since I'm currently in that season of purging and minimizing our stuff. Sold some stuff, donated other things, and even gave some to friends. Lord willing, I plan to homeschool all my kiddos this coming school year (6yr and under) and I'm working on converting the playroom into a functional, practical place for the kids to learn. Btw, I'm also planning on joining CC and I'm so thankful I found your channel. I'm navigating through this homeschool thing and your videos give me the encouragement/inspiration to move forward on this endeavor.

That’s so awesome! It’s so freeing in that initial purge phase. You’re in an exciting season, getting ready to homeschool and setting up your space for it. I love that part of the process. I’m so glad to hear my videos have been an encouragement to you! Thanks so much for your support! It really makes doing this all worth it 💛

I had to realize I was buying stuff with no plan on how I was going to use it. So when I sat down to teach I couldn’t because all the stuff clashed with each other. For example I had the teach your child how to read I think it was call 100 easy and the 20 easy lessons book. In the end I tossed them both out and I’m going to teach how to read with bob books. I take each word in the bob book out and tech my daughter to sound them out and teach the at sound and to read each word in that book. I’m using the blue box the beginning readers from bob books. For math we’re counting using the learning journeys puzzles that we got from Ross and we just do a lot of counting almost everyday. As for writing I draw out stuff and have her tease it or I just use a writing book. I’m still trying to get in my groove. My daughter starts kindergarten next year so I do a lot of research on what she needs to know to do well in kindergarten. So we do not counting, writing and reading.

Yes, it’s important to only buy when you actually have a plan to use it. Sounds like your plan for kindergarten is solid!

I’m thinking of doing this with toys and Radom things but it’s so hard. I think of the money I spend on Christmas stuff the kids don’t really need! I want to be more minimalist with toys than we are now. This also helps children to be creative.

I know. It’s hard to let go of things we spent good money on. But we just have to consider, does the cost of the item mean anything when the item is not even being used but just taking up space? This had me re-evaluating this past Christmas too. We honestly didn’t get the kids a lot. I’m thankful we’re setting this precedent now when they’re young to not think that Christmas is all about getting a lot of stuff. It’s a hard mindset to break, even for me wanting to get my kids all the things… but it feels so good to know that everything we have in our house now serves a specific purpose and nothing is going to waste just sitting somewhere taking up space.

I guess it’s just boring to not buy stuff at times. I hate tossing stuff out because I don’t have unhealthy money and I’ve tossed stuff out and found out later that oh I had that now I need. At times I say to my self I paid for that and I’m going to make my self use it.

The desire to buy is definitely strong. Marketing makes it all the more difficult to NOT buy. But if we want to be wise with our money, we need to learn to use it up, wear it out, make do, or do without. My new motto these days. And of course, if it doesn’t fit in one of those categories, donate, because the clutter is not worth my sanity.

Have you had to deal with excess gifts for holidays & birthdays? Specifically from other family members who may not understand your desire to simplify?
@sharayahmauricehomeschools
@sharayahmauricehomeschools 2 года назад
I’m chatting more about that in my next video and how we keep things simple and minimal for holidays like birthdays and such. But as far as other family members, we don’t really have any that are involved, so it’s not a problem for us in that regard.
