After watching the interview, kramnik said that he had this Rg8 novelty in stock for a long time and had been waiting to use this on e4 players especially carlsen and anand but was not expecting to use it on aronian who's not an e4 player especially and in the candidates but still went on with it. He said that after Kh1 by aronian he forgot his notes and remembered only Nh5 as one of his options so it's SAFE to say after Nh5 everything is ON THE BOARD CALCULATIONS.
Not THAT weak, a player less than 1800 would lose worse and in less moves than Aronian did, but it's also partly due to him playing e4 when he's traditionally a c4 player and is awful playing 1. e4
Guru H Why is he your favorite to win the Candidates? Going in he was the least likely one to win the Candidates besides Grischuk to me. He is much weaker than everyone else and has a bad score against most of the other players besides So who is still always higher rated anyway. I thought there was absolutely no chance Aronian would win the Candidates going in and now it has basically been confirmed bc players who lose this early in tournament have messed up psychology from the outset
Guru H Who said he was bad? He is extremely strong, just like every other player who has ever made a Candidates in history, I just dont think he is quite as strong as the majority of the field in the Candidates, that does not take away from how ridiculously strong he is, though. Mamedyarov has been sitting around world no. 3-4 for the past few months and has been having the best two years of his career, having finally broken 2800 and stayed there consistently for several months, Caruana and So have both been staying consistently above 2800 for a long time, Aronian has an absolutely atrocious score against Ding, even after the World CUp it's still bad, and Karjakin won the Candidates last time so he can never be written off. Aronian has played in many Candidates throughout his career, him nd Kramnik are easily the most experienced Candidates players in this Candidates yet only one of them has ever won a Candidates and Kramnik also became World Champion for several years on top of that.
Aronian was the in form player the last 6 months, how many events did he win? He was also the bookies favorite before the event, across all bookmakers. He just somehow manages to tank his performance at every candidates. Anything else and he's quality. I too thought that surely this time he will win it, still 11 games to go so let's see what happens. Kramnik looks brilliant.
@6:35: would have loved to see a picture of this moment in the game. Aronian grabbing Kramnik's piece and moving it for him. Unprecedented type of move. I doubt anyone's seen that before.
I need a chess player to actually do that in a game. A situation where the best/only viable move is so obvious, you just play it for your opponent. That needs to happen.
E. Z. I’ve done that before where I was losing a game and after I saw that I was going to be checkmated in a few moves, I just made the last 4 moves for my opponent.
there are so many variations on e4. so what if a0 approved of berlin defense? you don't have to play ruy lopez, rather go for italian game or scotch game or many other variations. chess is a creative game after all...
you clearly missed the point of my comment. and you're wrong, yet again. for regular players, it might be bad, but do you figure magnus or caruana or any other top ranked chess player wouldn't be able to pull off a decent game or two with it?
Grischuk and Karjakin played it today in the Candidates, and many other players have used it as an anti-Berlin. I'm not sure why you think it isn't common at the highest level.
I was watching the game live during the first moves until 5 ... d x c6, but I had to get to work. I kept thinking for myself that Aronian had decided to take the risk of facing the all-powerful Berlin Defense of Kramnik, in one way or another it was going to be a great game. Recently I could only know the result of the game when I finished my work, without being able to see the game itself. I said Ok, I get home and I see the game. A few minutes later I received the notification of this video. Supreme joy for me and even more after seeing this beautiful game. Thank you, Antonio.
"...and for those who just wanna enjoy the show..." Thanks for the daily reminder how bad I am at chess, excluded from the club of "excellent players" :(
My Godfathers. How can ANYONE do this to Aronian?! Brilliant Brillaint Brilliant! Kramnik has justified his wildcard a dozen times over this this STUNNING game. Truely Kramnik is one of the All Time Greats. Amazing.
amazing! This game further confirms that I am a blind man living in a world full of colors when it comes to this marvelous game. It's like these great players see a universe of possibilities that I can not even begin to fathom.
Hey man I just wanted to say I love your videos. You make it easy for people who are just starting out in chess to enjoy while still being engaging to better players. Keep going with your content!
This is really brilliant game.. Great preparation.. Anish giri had a twitter war of words with Carlsen... After this seems kramnik can win the tournament and challenge Carlsen for the world championship
Vlad not only got in Levon's kitchen but he raided his frig, cooked up some steaks, invited buddies over to watch March Madness, and dumped him out of his La-Z-Boy recliner.
I'm rooting for Aronian, so it's tough to watch this, but then again, a game this beautiful and filled with raw power from Kramnik, the king of the Berlin, could never be uncomfortable to see. And it definitely helps that my favorite commentator is showing it
What an amazing game by Vlad. Aronian just didn't see that F5 move which just ripped his position apart. Big Vlad was a wild card (it was either him or MVL). I think they chose the best player & Vlad is doing very well now. But what an amazing game, it isn't often a player like Aronian gets ripped apart in 27 moves. Great video bud. Much appreciated.
I love agadmator's analysis since he's Everyman, he's weak like the rest of us but offers Everyman comments aided by a chess engine. You can practically hear him mouthing his thoughts as he comments, while keeping the food from falling from his mouth. Good stuff, keep up the good work!!
An outstanding game, and well analysed :) However, about the opening novelty(as I saw in one of the comments), yes, Kramnik had prepared it about two years before the game and recalled some of the crucial moves. GM Yasser Seirawan also analysed this game, watch the game from a flip board view. 😊
Wow!!! This is the way great chess should be played!!! Great game by Kramnik! What a shame that f3 checkmate didn't happen though! It would've been amazing!!
#suggestion So, endgames are hugely important for all of us to learn and understand. Many games that analysts do focus on openings and middle game. But, If you do another game from this tournament, I suggest Caruana vs. Mamedyrov. Fighting endgames are so instructive and exciting because the board is open. Subtle plays are big. I loved the back and forth in this game, like a boxing match.
I wish Grandmasters would play these positions to checkmate. Give your opponent the satisfaction for the brilliancy he played, as well as make the sport a bit more accessible to the average viewer.
#suggestion This is not a game suggestion, but rather an interface improvement suggestion. It would be amazing to have the current move displayed at the side of the board, e.g., "move 1", "move 2", "move 3"...
Winning as Black is very important, especially for a classical player such as Kramnik. All the better if you do that against a fellow favorite. Three more wins, no loss and we have a fabulous Carlsen-Kramnik 😎
Big Vlad knows this is probably his last chance for a crack at the title so he is going for blood. Great game for chess, this is how you play with black. Great job with the analysis Antonio. Hopefully there is more to come. Forza Caruana!
We still have a 'Brilliancy Prize' line & it's beautiful! Not the one played by White, but the best defense: 27.Re2! It makes it mate in 7 instead of mate in 5.
#Suggestion can you analyze Caruana and Mamedyarov's game when it finishes? Extremely sharp and entertaining. Shak turned down a draw going for the win
Kramnik deserves the brilliancy award as well as the heart of lion award if it ever existed as he appears to be the one not afraid to get into complicated positions and push for a win unlike the younger players who would rather draw a game rather than dive into complications..
agadmator's Chess Channel i just pressed on your previous video to check it & WOW it's almost double the loudness on your previous video than this. Everything is fine on my side. Maybe RU-vid then :D
agadmator's Chess Channel And as I pressed on your previous video to verify if I am wrong, at the end of this video, that trademark, *Hello everyone" literally blew my ears in a good way (High volume). Something is definitely wrong with the audio of this one. Not loud enough & shallow.
If you play 1. d4 against Kramnik, there's QGD; if you play 1. e4, there's Berlin. Maybe you should be careful with 1. c4 or 1. Nf3 as well, so what's the idea here?
Hey agad, whats your comment on the crazy games that have been played just in the first 3 rounds. I mean in the London chess classic we had a lot of draws and not a lot of aggressive positions? Are we seeing more aggression since there is much more at steak if you win the candidates rather than the classic? Any comments about this
George Had but One off magics here & there aren't going to win you a world championship. Have to be super consistent over the course of the entire candidates match & the actual world championship match games. I would be surprised if aronian even wins the candidates match.
This game proves that u must help your piecss so they can help u .. and also It is the first time I undersatand why shouldn"t I castle early .. may be my opponent is waiting me to castle and only then star his magic
Agadmator, just a genuine question. Could Alpha Zero have defended this? (It would never allow this position to arise, but what if it was asked to begin from this position as White? )
Maybe sometimes is also a stroke of luck with a move. You think it's a good move, but you don't see the whole picture (because you are unable to calculate that far) and after some movements you just realize how good that move that you liked was the best move indeed. It happens to me sometimes, but perhaps it's also because I'm not very good playing chess =D
