Did price factor into the results? Considering how well you recently highlighted the bang-for-your-buck value of the ASUS Zenbook 14X it's hard to imagine you'd drop the ball here. You showed the G14 being $1300 (even at MSRP it's only $1600) didn't you, but then it lost points for the *highly* subjective keyboard & port placement, seriously? Something smells off.
We considered this, but the point of this video was to find "The Best" laptop not "The Best Value Laptop". If there is interest, we can do that one :) @@Lee.S321
@@JustJoshTech Businesses can often write off the price of hardware as an expense, so the cost of the device is less of a factor. But, for the rest of us (your audience basically), seeing as you see diminishing returns the more you spend on electronics above around 1.5k, what you get for your money is pretty important. You've done a number of great videos touching on this, & also make a point of highlighting where a capable device, if specked out, becomes ludicrously expensive (cough cough Razer). Here though you seemed to have forgotten money exists. It may not have to be the focus of any video, but very useful to also include in any results you draw. Take the MSRP of a device, divide it by the points awarded, & the lower the score the better bang for your buck it is.
@@Lee.S321 Even being able to write off expenses device price is still an important factor. In fact its probably the most important factor. They just scout for whomever can get them the best bulk order /leasing prices. That being said, for the majority of businesses these kind of devices in the video aren't in consideration anyway. They mostly bulk order something like Thinkpads or HP Probook, etc. For most jobs you don't need 4000 series GPUs, fancy looks, RGB, particular good screens etc. but companies may want SmartCard readers, (V-)pro CPUs, WWan Cards, Inhouse support, etc.
I'm looking for a laptop with a good display, great battery time and good/solid body build(like mac). My work is mainly office related(so need good battery time), but do occasionally watch movies/videos so want a good display. Dont' want my laptop to feel too plasticy like some of them out there. Any suggestions?

As for data sheet you are correct he said he'd share it but didn't actually in the description. I just paused the video and glanced at the prices. Best value is probably the apple one. I already knew the prices for most of these as well but prices do fluctuate sadly.

I think that's the best, most objective roundup of laptops I've ever seen. I'm biased because I have both Apple (M1 MBP 14) and ASUS (VivoBook S15) laptops, so I was happy to see them score well.
Honestly, same. My wife has a 16" MBP (M1) and I recently purchased the Zenbook Pro 14 after going back and forth for months (waiting for their release) between the ASUS and the Lenovo Slim Pro 9i. Agree with the assessment though that the ASUS screen is dim, I really wanted the Lenovo for the bright mini-LED but in the ned much happier with the ASUS I think. Both laptops were hard to find for a couple of months and I went with the ASUS because the Lenovo did not offer the RTX 4060 version or even their teal color versions (that they gave all the reviewers).
@@linguistisch yeah, it's hard to find a high spec model of the Slim Pro 9i. I have the 4050 model and I absolutely love it and its display, but I think your decision is also valid because it comes with a major battery life tradeoff when running at 165hz due to the brightness of mini led and they really don't offer other models well.
Just pointing some things out- Zephyurus G14 2023 is metal. Its not plastic 2:20 The Yoga Slim Pro 9i/Yoga Pro 9i also maxes out at 4070 14:27 (just fyi, cuz it wasn't mentioned. Improvements i would like to see from this video- Covering the aspect of value is very important. Also some of ur facts are incorrect, listed above. Another thing to keep in mind- Asus has some pretty bad quality control. This means that for some its not reliable at all. I've seen a lot of people return and complain about the Zephurus G14. Asus makes great laptops but is seriously has to work on its QC issues part. Also, in many regions, the support is incompetent(not as incompetent as Razer tho) MiniLED is a good tech, but comes with its own issues. Firstly and mainly, it has bloom issues. Secondly, the response time for it isnt as good as OLED or good IPS screens.
I have never understood why bloggers always compare laptop's sound quality. Everyone around me uses headsets.) And if you have a stationary working place, any cheap standalone speaker will be better than any laptop's speaker. And it was funny to compare Mac's GPU performance with others by comparing video editing, where load is most on a CPU.)

I'm really glad to hear it. This was actually an experiment for us to see if people will watch longer more detailed round ups. It seems the answer is a definite yes!
5* for graphics on the MacBook while not being able to run all those games (natively)!? And giving it a star for upgradability while NO upgrade is possible? That is how to taint results...
Great comparison! Reporting in here with the G14 4090 model and I’ve gotta say this much power in a 14” laptop is just insane. I don’t mind a bit of a warm keyboard, and I’m especially enjoying the battery life and the mini-LED display on this one!! All-around amazing machine.
Cool, in comparison to Zenbook 14 pro and g14 what do you prefer and recommend in terms of professional work, gaming, portability, picture quality, battery life, build quality etc.
@@Peacetranquility447 I haven’t personally used the Zenbook but I have watched some reviews on it and know a couple people who had one. It’s a beautiful laptop with a nice OLED panel, but of course being OLED means it’s not very bright and there’s always a risk of burn-in. The G14 gets much brighter and the mini-LED display comes very close to OLED black levels but with a tiny bit of blooming, which I find to be worth the trade off for much higher brightness. The G14 also has a Ryzen 7940HS, which is much more efficient than the Intel. So that typically means better battery life, better performance on battery, and less CPU wattage needed in games. However the Zenbook would definitely win in build quality. The G14 isn’t flimsy by any means though, it’s a very sturdy magnesium alloy build with some aluminum. I’d still pick the G14 because the 4080/4090 performance is next level, but if the Zenbook had higher tier GPU options and more display options, I’d consider it much more.
@@Peacetranquility447 zenbook is less capable of sustained mix workload but slimmer while G14 is the opposite. If you want the best performance or you want to play games, go for G14. If you want a great touch screen for creative work, zenbook will offer it at a lower starting price than G14, which doesn't offer a touch screen and only includes its OLED counterpart, miniLED, at higher cost configurations. Granted, G14's IPS screen is excellent as is so if you don't care about OLED touch screen the G14 would be my pick.
I owe G14 2021 and 2022 model and they both have terrible battery life. Even w disabling dGPU and capping cpu to 75%,I'm lucky to get more than 3 hr on it. I think quality is an issue w G14. I love the form factor and the power but too bad mine has poor battery life.
Happy to see G14 up there. I don’t have this year’s model, but I’ve been extremely happy with my older model. I hope it gets getting better throughout the years so I can upgrade to an awesome model in the future!
I have the first G14 model as well and the mac pro M2. While the perforamnce is great in both. Mac is just in a world of its own on battery life, heat management, fan noise. I am fed up of digging through "tricks" like disbale dgpu, cap cpu to 75% and constantly updating drivers to keep the battery life good on G14. These niggles will be forever there for windows issues though and I love it for playing games :)
Gestures mean you haven't needed to push down on a touchpad in a decade. I'm looking forward to solid state like touchpads (no physical or simulated click) in future.
@@Lee.S321yeah I never click. Always tap. My trackpad is a little loose and it bothers me. I might go in and just tighten the click so that it’s impossible to push since I never do anyways.
@@MoChuang343 I opened my laptop, removed the battery to get to the touchpad, then wedged some small stiff foam pads between the touchpad & chassis to stop the touchpad depressing. Now I have the closest thing to a solid-state touchpad I can make. Diveboard/haptic touchpads just introduce unnecessary moving parts that can break. I'm looking forward to them being phased out one day. The closest thing to a perfect touchpad for me is the Dell XPS Plus, but only if the haptics are disabled.
It looked like you forgot the Slim 9i in the Upgradeability section? It would have been 3 points with upgradeable storage and configurable 32g ram . Possibly you added the points to the total but just forgot to add it in the video list?
Good to see Lenovo 9i Pro being on top Windows category. Surprisingly enough there are extremely less reviews about that and they are on crazy discounts.
The 16” version of this is super fkn cheap, but only the IPS version. I’m just not sure how good the 3.5k IPS display is. I watched a lot of movies and am keep to do a bit of gaming so any input on this would be greatly appreciated
I can't get one here in Australia - just cancelled my order after waiting for weeks, only to be told it could be after Christmas. The price was great, but a waste of time if a I can't get one
Love this comparo. I hesitate to buy Lenovo again. I've had two from them and they both crashed. My Yoga C7 still operates but there is an insanely loud whining noise coming from the fan that I cannot stand. It's unbearably loud so I don't even use it anymore. The Zenbook 14x is looking good but im still on the fence between that or the Samsung Book3 Ultra. any recommendations between the two or others in the windows category?
great video! super in depth and useful. i have last year's model of the asus g14 with the rx 6700s. great machine.... except asus' armoury crate software for controlling the laptop is HORRIBLE. after i uninstalled it and replaced it with g-helper (from github), my battery life and temps got way better. how some dude's hobby project is vastly better in every way than asus' own software, i have no idea. 100% recommend for anybody with a g14 or another asus laptop. it would be interesting to see a reviewer do an in depth before and after comparison, because a lot of the g14's weak points in this video would see improvement (at least in theory).
Great review, the Asus G14 is my favourite, I brought one. I think the problem with the Mac is they can’t really do AAA PC games. So the Mac should have received a lot fewer points on that criteria. It doesn’t really matter how good a computer is if it can’t do the basic user case of playing AAA games. Most people will only be able to afford to buy one laptop so they need an all rounder, the Mac fails on that point. I disagree the 14” size isn’t ideal for gaming due to its portability and ability to plug-in to a monitor or TV. I brought the G14 to have a portable gaming PC, that can do web browsing, word documents and go on holidays. Windows 11 is perfectly fine. I also own a Mac but it maybe my last one due to inability to play games. Although the Mac advantage is power off battery, low heat and noise and performance.
@12:20 Slim Pro 9i does have an SD card reader. It’s also possible to get one with RTX 4070 graphics. Honestly the Slim Pro 9 is a no brainer in Europe right now as it’s much cheaper than the Macbook.
Apple's quality control is just a completely different level. I hope Windows laptops manufacturers catch up so Apple can feel the competition heating up.
@@px_antho Quality control covers more aspects than build quality. It's really common for Windows devices even Microsoft's to have problems with things like display, speakers and device drivers. Apple has its issues but they get resolved faster.
@@aeiedamo Yeah that 2015 MacBook was a mess. HOWEVER, it was a pioneer for changes that they've been able to implement and perfect (give or take) since then
Apple's competitors have had FOREVER to match Apple's quality and fit and finish. There are well built Windows laptops out but even Flagship Win Laptops can't rival the entry-level Macbook Air for quality.
@@goobfilmcast4239 Apple wasn't the best since the beginning of time. They gradually improved in the last decade so any company can do it but they choose not to (for whatever reason). Razer is the closest in build quality but in other aspects not so close.

Also please review the Thinkpad T14s gen 4 AMD or any other laptop with 7840U cpu. And it would be great if you can do a similar video for ultrabooks!
Like always, the whole thing is fantastic, but I like to suggest adding the cost( with an even - score )to the overall score since cost is also one of the most important aspects of buying a laptop.
Well with sales going all the time it’s always changing. I guess you could just look up prices and do dollars over score for a weighted value to determine the best value purchase.
@@MoChuang343 at least comparing msrps would have been great Since sure the macbook is the best in his scores but the price is also way higher than most of the other ones (for the pretty much base model)
@@froznfire9531 Actually MSRP would make the MacBooks look way better. Lenovo is notorious for having stupid MSRPs that mean nothing since their laptops go on sale every other week. Right now the Slim 7 Pro with Ryzen 7840HS and 16GB/1TB is on sale for $935 with an MSRP of $1450. That's only $50 cheaper than a 16/512 M2 MBA. But in reality, this Lenovo laptop probably goes on sale for $1000 like every other week.
Here in Brazil for some reason any laptop that is compared to apple is like way expensive than a MacBook but MacBooks are already 8x the monthly minimum wage. I really don’t understand why cause many of this windows laptops are manufactured here but all apple are imported and our imported tax is like 60%. It creates a very weird environment where everything is expensive but expensive are still less expensive than the most expensive things.
just one thing i might add: the oled panel in the zenbook pro has the best color accuracy, contrast and response time of all of these laptops. Yes it is not as bright and pwm might bug some, but other than that it is actually probably the best screen. Also no ghosting. It depends on your needs. That said, I actually really like the 14 inch macbook screen alot. Also, it is also worth noting that macbooks are only fast at video editing works bc hw de/encoders that are amazing at what they do, all the others laptops completely dominates (basically destroys) the macs in most other3d gpu loads, like blender, games and such. Im sure apple will look into it sooner or later, but if you need 3d performance and raytracing, windows is your friend atm. Macs do have unified memory though, so more complex 3d scenes possible. But for most common workloads a windows machine with cuda cores will be several times faster than even the most expensive mac. Which again goes to show, it depends on workload. Which is why im thinking your comparison might not give the full picture.
Yeah, there's no talk about usage in field with adobe softwares like After effects or Blender /Cinema 4D. How will a macbook perform vs. a G14 with a 4080, say?
I smell apple bias here. It cant game at all but you still give it 5? Thats an automatic 3. Thats like giving a smart but disabled kid a combined fitness and intelligence score of 5. It makes no sense.
I may be 5 months late to your comment so this is kinda pointless, but to be fair he does call the section a "graphics" section not a "gaming" section. @@SnakeFire3 The video is titled 'the best 14 inch laptop'. If a laptop isn't good at everything it cannot be called 'the best'. Your reply is therefore invalid.
@@Arsoonistyeah... The best 14 inch laptop. Not the best 14 inch *gaming* laptop. If your main priority is gaming then this video just isn't for that. Watch a "best gaming laptop" video or something. @@RM-el3gw to be fair to the 9i, it can be had brand new legitimately for $1500 which makes it pretty worthwhile compared to the MacBook or even Lenovo's site's absurd 1900 dollar price tag.
So the all-rounder is the MacBook 14". You just need to configure it to the memory you wanted because it's not upgradeable. Next will be the Slim Pro 9i and Asus Zenbook Pro 14. As for the rest, it's a no for me. And yes I did get a MacBook 14". 😊
Great and detailed review, first time I hear proper music for sound testing. Btw I considered to get Zenbook pro 14 for design work but I got ROG flow X13 and I can't be more satisfied. I'll upgrade with ROG external GPU and keep it in the office when needed for intense 3d rendering work.
Love this review as I have a g14 with the 6900HS and 6700S. This thing gets so uncomfortably hot when its plugged in/doing anything intensive. I thought it would be neat to be able to game on this laptop as well, but the novelty has worn off as I have desktop with a 3080ti in it. I might just go in for a refurbished M2 pro MBP 14. As a CPA i cant imagine not being to use any program i need on the Mac.
Very nice job on this comparison, especially great to see a wide variety of laptops being tested. I always appreciate that you pay attention to the heat produced by the laptop and felt by the user, not just how hot the CPU/GPU is. Nice to see the Slim Pro 9i doing so well, I have the model under it (Slim Pro 7) and while it isn't as fast or with as nice a screen it's still a great machine (they seem to share lots of similarities when it comes to their design/chassis) - helps that I snagged an "open-box" unit that was basically new for less than $700. Lower-end graphics cards are a nice compromise for that mix of gaming power but portability and temperature control in a 14" form factor - even a 4050 (or my poor 3050) can do some gaming if you keep settings balanced for it.
Hi Josh. What are your thoughts about "ASUS - Zenbook 14" 120Hz OLED Touch Laptop - EVO Intel 13 Gen Core i9 with 32GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForece RTX 3050 - 1TB"? Is it worth it?
As a user of the g14 with rtx 4080, I found that using the windows best power efficiency profile instead of the asus armoury crate silent profile greatly helped with heat on the keyboard deck. There is a little more fan noise, but nothing too noticeable.
Giving extra points to laptops because they could be configured higher is not the same as rating the tested models, especially when you give the prices as tested. Giving the Macbook Pro any stars for upgradability is stupid. Macbook Pros are not upgradable. Period. Just because someone could have chosen a better configuration at a much, much higher price from the start is not at all upgradable.
Loved the comparison Josh. 14 inch laptops are my ideal since it's very portable and still has powerful enough components to do creative, productivity and gaming on. With that said, I would have 100% gotten the Macbook Pro 14 if it was able to handle gaming. Which is why the Asus G14 is the winner for me personally. One question for you Josh, for the Battery test, did you disable the dedicated GPU before video playback? I believe some of the AMD laptops can run for much longer. I get about 9-10 hours on my G14.
By dedicated GFX you mean disabling the 4000 series Nvidia card for doing multitask work? Is that something you do with a single click from some Asus software? Or is it done automatically? Or you have to restart the laptop to choose not to launch the GFX card?
I have a laptop that is a much better balance between power, portability and build quality...it is the lenovo yoga pro 7, coming with ryzen 7840hs and 32 GB of RAM. It costs 860 euros, has a very decent mat screen (14,5 inch with 16:10 aspect ration) much slimmer than the 9i, and the processor is very powerful... only 5% in single core behind the macbook pro, and on par for multi score. The integrated graphics are very capable for doing almost anything at a very decent performance. However, I feel that this laptop should have gotten the 7840u running at 25 wats, as the chassis is to small to handle 54 wats TDP from the 7840hs (and probably 80-90 wats when going full load). Also the speakers although very good for a slim 14 inch laptop, do not have much base at all
Stats are stats but every time I used apple computers it felt like I was using last gen or 2 gens ago technology lol. Its just so slow in everything that actually matters outside of a couple of applications it was optimized for.
Kinda wish I found this a little sooner. Would have come to the same conclusion as I did on my own, but WAY faster, just picked up the 4060 G14, and been loving it. Using it as a work travel laptop, and pc gaming TV set up in the living room and with my limited runs, it works REALLY well. Im just curious how much of a performance hit it takes if you use USB C vs the Barrel connector
I concur, After using windows laptops for 8 yrs, coming back to the Mac Pro 14 was fabulous, I love this machine even with the M1 chip and the basic config. I simply can't see a reason to go back to any Windows machine.
Yes, i agree the order. But Zenbook OLED is so cheap compared to the rest of these if value is consideration, it's probably the best bang of the buck. I think one of your other video mentioned it
Incredible video! This is the kind of roundup that would merit a yearly return. As others said, I think next time cost (or value for money) should be added as a new category, or even a weighting of the overall score. Say, for instance, the Zenbook has a score 1 point under the Pro 9i, but costs 500$ less, I think it would be a better choice for most people. It might also reduce the lead of the MBP, like you mentioned on your Zenbook 14/14X video. Again, amazing work from the team, and we hope to see this kind of roundup for different categories, too!
The Slim Pro 9i can be had for 1500 USD which I honestly think is completely justifiable. There's really no going wrong with either of these, but I'm in love with the 9i's display.
This is an excellent review, but I'm quite surprised you didn't include pricing in the comparison. The best laptop (Apple Macbook Pro 14) will cost you a kidney a soon as you try to get a decent configuration. For example 32GB and 1TB configuration costs $3099 atm. In comparison Lenovo Slim Pro 9i in the same configuration costs $1799. I mean, it's not even close, Macbook is almost 2x the price and should get a -10 score just for that.
We have heard that feedback and have included it in future round up videos i.e.a Pricing category :) This video was to find the absolute best laptop regardless of price
Great review! I am currently on a 2022 g14 model with all AMD setup, this setup is insane for battery life, I get much better scores than the new model with NVidia graphics, but not as good performance as 2023 model, but i really dont care about that since i have a main desktop, so its a great laptop for balance of battery life and performance.
I have an IdeaPad Pro 16 and I’ve been loving Lenovo’s new slim portable powerful notebook lineup. Just enough power to manage some video editing and gaming while being very portable. So for me my favorite of the bunch would be the 9i. But if the games you play run on Mac oh boy that MBP14 is a beautiful marvel of engineering! I do all my AAA gaming on desktop anyways like you said none of these are great for that. So I guess it could go either way. But I enjoy the option of playing any game I want even at lower settings on my laptop if I wanted to or on the few weeks a year that I’m away from home visiting family.
been using the 14" MBP for 3 months now. Its great. I expected more out of its battery, but im a power user and the screen is on all the time and mostly at 8/16 brightness or higher. Still can somehwat comfortably get one day of use out of it. I gave away my windows laptop - it was great, buuuut. (asus zenbook OLED 13 from 2021 i think, AMD 5800U/16GB)
I have a MacBook Pro 14 (M1) and the ASUS ZenBook 14X. These are definitely 2 of the best laptops I've ever used for personal use and the only time I want the MacBook over the ASUS is if I need portability and power at the same time. I'm a Windows guy at heart and thanks to your coverage of the Zenbook 14X, I own one for the best sale price I've seen on it ($699) and it's just fantastic!! Thanks for you continued reviews of modern tech!
Agree. I’ve had the 14m1 pro since day one with 32 ram (im a creative professional) and I bought my kid a Zenbook 14x a few weeks ago when they had that sale for her first year at college. I was going to get her a MacBook Air, but the 14x price and specs were too good to pass up and she loves it.
I have the Balde 14, the Zenbook Pro and the M1 Max. Zenbook Pro is the best Windows PC I have had in a really long time. MacBook Pro is my go to and the blade is for sale.
If you factor in the cost of the device, & upgrades required, MacBooks don't shine so bright. Josh's video on the ASUS Zenbook 14X showed that it's pretty much the best bang for your buck on the market.
@@simply6162 Can you provide specifics please, rather than just add a dumb troll comment? Could you also learn how to spell & use punctuation, that sentence was painful to read.
Generally great video! However, I will say that the performance comparisons weren't quite fair between the Windows machines because they were not all maxed out. For example, you compared i9 machines against your i7 9i Pro unit with an i7 and a RTX 4050. I personally have the 9i Pro specced up with an i9-13905H, RTX 4060, and 32GB RAM. I also completely agree with the other comment that mentioned that its upgrade score should include that you can max it out on purchase with up to 64GB RAM and the SSD is replaceable/upgradeable post-purchase.
I wish someone would make a basically copycat MacBook Pro for windows, I miss when the xps was THE windows laptop. In the meantime seems I’m getting the Lenovo. Amazing video as always!! Also, some constructive feedback. Giving the MacBook 5/5 on graphics felt out of left field because it only showed up in 1/3 graphs you showed us. The lack of macOS compatibility with gaming and other gpu-intensive programs feels like it should be something that’s talked about more. Video editing isn’t the only profession and shouldn’t receive an immediate 5/5 because of it.
Hi Josh! A cringe video idea but, would you be interested in putting out a videos on your perfect laptop design if you were building it? It would be cool to get your perceptive on what constitutes the perfect laptop for you.
We've done a decent one here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ACo0vaf2DE0.html But we will probably do a larger one with more laptops if there is enough interest
Missing from this test is the new Lenovo Legion Slim 5i 14 inch. Oled display and better performance than most of these laptops. And the best port selection by far. And I believe its also cheaper.
Confused why the issue of a touchscreen is not addressed. This is the main reason I returned my 14 MacBook Pro. Once you get used to scrolling, expanding, and clicking directly on a screen (instead of indirectly through a touchpad or mouse) it is a HUGE step down to return to a non-touch screen. Also, I feel you need to juxtapose your scores with the prices. The MacBook in your test lists at $2,500, which is a full $1,000 more than some of the other laptops in the test. Having said that, I appreciate your videos and your hard work.
The Lenovo Slim Pro 9i can be configured with up to an RTX 4070. Macbook GPU is not ideal for Gaming and professional 3D workloads, no way it is 5 stars.
Amazing video! Your mother must be very proud! Not in the market to buy a new laptop but will definitely keep an eye out for ASUS G14 after watching this video
It's very sad that Schenker didn't upgrade a lot going from 12th to 13th gen. Faster ports, a sturdier lid and a better touchpad would've probably bumped this more towards average. Especially since the port selection itself is pretty good already. For the price it's still a nice machine but definitely not without compromises. Great video overall!
For me the most important thing is portability and upgradability, I had a laptop with i7 8750h and GTX 1060 that one of the RAM sticks for bad, lucky for me it was non soldered, so just remove it, insert a new one and problem done, can't imagine how much they would have charged me if it was a soldered Ram, also SSDs come on I've had at least 6 of them dying on my computers and close family computers, so I'd never accept a laptop without removable SSD and Ram
Great and detailed comparison, please do more of such and everyone will watch your videos before they buy a new laptop. Please post more of them and regularly each year for different categories (productivit/coding, gaming, video editing and form factor at least)
Thanks Josh for this video - very informative and helpful in choosing a laptop. I recently purchased a Slim Pro 9i based on this video (The European version Yoga Pro 9i with an i9 13905h and RTX 4060). Overall I love the laptop but there are a couple of issues I would like to ask about to see if you experienced. Firstly, you mention in the video that the fan noise was really low for light tasks. This has not been my experience - the fans keep pulsing on and off when browsing / doing MS office tasks even in battery saver mode and even though CPU temperatures are not high (low to mid 40s). Secondly on build quality, you mention that it is overall great, if a little dull. With my unit, I find the base plate is very thin and creaks a lot. Are these two things - 1) the fans pulsing during low intensity tasks and 2) the creaky baseplate - something you observed with your unit? Thanks again.
Hi, So your first issue with fan noise in light use. Yes, for me it does come on and off. On the scale of 1 to 10 for bad Windows laptops for fan noise in light use (browsing the web). Its probbaly about a 6 to 7 with 10 being the best and 1 the worst score. The 16inch is significantly quieter for light use. I'd say more like an 8. That specific reason is why I prefer the 16inch btw. Unfortunatley the Slim Pro 9i 14inch is on the quieter end for a Windows 14inch laptop with high powered components. Especially considering it has dedicated graphics. This is just the state of play right now with Windows laptops right now :( Please note my model had an RTX 4050, yours has a more powerful 4060 - so that could make yours slightly louder than mine. I can't remember if the Slim Pro 9i has the ability to turn off the dedicated graphics and only run the integrated. If it does that could help. On your other question, no, mine does not have a creaky baseplate. I just went and rechecked it for you. Certainly nothing that I would consider remotely an issue.
@@JustJoshTech Thanks so much for taking the time to reply - I do appreciate the attention you give the community comments! On the fan noise, that is really useful context on the state of play of windows laptops right now. I suppose that reflects the commentary in your video that Macs are just miles ahead right now on that front. Have to say I find it a bit frustrating that this is something Lenovo don't seem to be able to sort out - it seems to me that for 'silent mode' it is just a case of making sure that the fan curve is set correctly. Even compared to Asus, my wife has the zenbook 14X, with a very similar CPU to the slim pro 9i and it is silent for most everyday tasks.
The Zenbook Pro 14 OLED screen is by far the best display I've ever used, and beats the minileds in both accuracy and colors. And regarding its low brightness: it actaully goes up to 400hz SDR when plugged in and reaches 550 nits in HDR mode, which I often use for daily usage as well (sadly there is no DCI-P3/Adobe RGB profile toggle in HDR...). It simply beats every other screen out there hands down, as you don't have the typical glow that still haunts miniled screen when viewing high contrast content. Or just a mouse cursor on a dark background. Great comparison btw, that was a very solid line-up!
I doubt it is even close to 550 in HDR and it is rather in 300is in SDR. Though OLED is indeed higher quality vs mini-led (but burn-in and power draw should be considered)
@@Roman-rh2dk no, I measured it with displaycal and a SpyderX pro. It's 361 nits on battery, 398 plugged in SDR and 547 in HDR mode. Or at least my unit is. The factory calibration is also quite good, I was barely able to improve on it, so I left it as is.
The comparison is not fair tbh, for the same price of a well configured Macbook Pro you can get a 4090 laptop, let's see who is faster in 3d or in video editing.
I can’t lie, I’m really into Alienware x14, and to be honest it’s purely because of the look hehehe….really like the design, but kind of upset too cause even it has “alien” in its name, the only “alien” thing we can find on it, is the look….other than that, it’s just an average gaming laptop 😅
@Just Josh, you could add "PWM test" keyword to description. It will attract more viewers, there are some people struggling to find reviews with PWM test.
Why isn't price considered for the judgement? Its rarely the case that users have "fuck you" amount of money and that they could simply buy the "best" one. One could make a marvelous laptop with everything best but at $20k doesn't mean its what users should buy.
