Those 3D printed motors...and the LEDs for sparkplugs....that's amazing!
@IBWatchinUrVids

15 years ago, my dad and I built a plastic V8 engine kit, with lights indicating when the plug would fire, but it used the engine cam to determine when. While it is cool to look at, it's rather old technology. That said, it doesn't detract from the fact that lots of people can learn from it. I'm all for a future with educated people. Everyone, keep learning!

I wish them all the best but this tech already exists with the big boys. Trinamic has a line of BLDC motors with encoders up to 40,000 steps. Steppers still win for stall torque and thus are better for CNC.

Gotta say I had a bit of a "what?" moment when he said the 48V control board was twice the power of the 24V board. Wouldn't a board for double the voltage have to handle 4 times the power?
@refraggedbean

possibly, it depends on the amperage

Same current but the higher voltage (double power) gets you more speed due to the motor's speed constant.

Almost all serious cnc machine uses bldc motors with rotary encoders I think
@ProtonOne11
@ProtonOne11 6 лет назад
Serious machines actually use AC motors with some type of inverter driver (mostly variable frequency drives). It's kinda similar to the BLDC motors, but you drive them with a controlled analogue waveform instead of just switching the motor phases on and off in a pattern. It's harder to make these drivers, but in the kilowatt and above region, the better efficency starts to pay off quickly compared to simpler BLDC motor drivers.

seeing those brushless motors hit the mark- clearly a very nicely functioning loop- it's a game changer. even if it were a little fast for 3d printing (though the dice seems to do 800mm/s no problemo) it would shrink the rapid's time to near nothing.

brushless motors with encoders is a amazing idea, iam also working on that idea i.e.., controlling dc motors with encoders for a accurate motion to fix them in the 3d printers and the cnc machines. they will reduce the cost of the motors and are highly accurate

Optical encoder on a brushless motor has the best application to 3d printing by far. When he says speed is to fast for 3d printing you can gear it down then the resolution will be even more crazy than the 8000 steps per revolution. With a simple 4:1 ratio thats 32000 per revolution, the mind boggles on the applications on how precise this system is and you have slowed it down to a more reasonable usable speed.

@adisharr
@adisharr 6 лет назад
CNC systems would really benefit from brushless closed loop systems. 3D printers, maybe not as much - mostly from travel speed but it would be neat to see a comparison. As far as his resolution comparison, that's not that accurate. No one runs a stepper at full steps. Also, since steppers are not using PID loops for position, they are faster to settle and there's no overshoot from that. They start moving and stop almost immediately as commanded. Servos are error driven and there are always delays associated with that.
@phillhuddleston9445
@phillhuddleston9445 5 лет назад
There are exceptions but steppers are more accurate than most applications require and you can always hear them to be more accurate if need be.
