best advice i ever got i got from from my dad , if someone has a problem with you , they are the one with the problem not you, walk away from idiots who want to fight you you will live longer and your face will not get busted up , my dad was a bouncer , or a doorman depending on which side of the pond you are , he was covered in scars from knives, hatchets, razors all kind of attacks from people who did not agree with his employers rules, he was a giant of man but a peaceful man and he did not want to hurt anyone , i follow that rule to my dying breath , i will not physically fight anybody even if i want to , its not worth it and it does not solve anything

If you can back it up it ain't braggin'... so they say. Rob is... IS great. And it's a burden being so damn good, and 'right' all the time; Because of jealous lazy type folks. Decades of practice give him the right to be confident. To me he's the perfect mix of 'down to earth' and Magical Master.

The best advice I have ever gotten, and this changed my whole outlook on life, was from my now 99 year old grandmother who apart from being the absolutely nicest , sweetest, and most delightful person alive on this planet today, is also a very intelligent and centered individual. I had gone to her house to spend some time with her, and she noticed i was a little out of sorts. She asked me what was wrong and I sad well Grandma, I'm having a problem. She stopped me right there and said this. "I can tell that you are upset because you are having what you perceive to be a problem due to some factor either in or out of your control. These are either caused by you or are caused by someone else , and simply effect you. What you are having is not a problem. It is an opportunity. This is an opportunity for you to learn to grow as a person, adapt to changes in your life, overcome an obstacle, and most of all, to trust that God has a plan for you. If you remember these things, your life will be much happier, and you will succeed far more than you will fail................... Pretty great advice right?

Life/Musician Lessons!!!!: 1.Don't sacrifice the long term for the short term gain........Don't blow yourself out. 2. Physical posture is crucial for singers. 3. To be successful you don't need to reinvent the wheel. Start with what works, and improve on it with your own style and creativity. 4. Don't let other people's idea of success define you. Work/live/learn for yourself first. 5. LISTEN TO YOUR GUT< YOUR INSTINCTS...!...!....! Thanks Rob.

Thanks so much Rob! years ago I was thinking of moving from England to another country but I'd just bought a car and decided I wouldn't go because of it. a friend said to me "you can always get another metal box but you'll never get another life" I did go in the end and am so happy I did. You never regret trying.

The best advice I was given about playing guitar came from an older drummer... When I was just starting to play guitar he said to me: learn to play rhythm guitar before solos... And that worked for me. If you want to be able to play popular songs and/or write your own songs, you need to be able to play rhythm guitar and chords... That's the foundation...

Thanx for the advice vid. I've been given a lot of advice from a lot of different people through my life. The one bit of advice that I received that rings true every time is, if you are afraid of something, study it. You may still be afraid but you will have a better understanding and respect for what you were afraid of and will be able to relax and go on.

The best advice I can give about percentages is that it is physically and mathematically impossible to give 110% of anything that was originally measured as 100% being the maximum attainable value of that thing. It's that same concept that Nigel Tufnell of Spinal Tap couldn't grasp. Ironically. when Rob talks about giving 75% of 100%, he is allowing himself some room for improvement in reality, whilst psychologically believing himself to be at 100% when, all along, he knows he's at 75%. In Spinal Tap terms, he could actually go past 11 with this approach.

The Branson advice is so underrated. In the context of music.. so many bands have poor names, poor logos or even a mismatch in terms of how they sound vs hour they look. I remember back in 2005, Trivium, Bullet for my Valentine and Avenged Sevenfold were all hitting the spotlight at roughly the same time.. and personal tastes aside, the most successful of the three is the band whereby you know what you're going to get - the band with the strongest branding. They dress similarly, they have a strong logo, they have a consistency in their sound, they are the most marketable. I think it's obvious which band I'm talking about.

When starting out... Practice til your fingers hurt, then keep practicing. I have the motivation now after about 10 years of playing because I can see the progress I've made. If you've only been playing a few months I suggest you just keep setting yourself small goals and actually achieve them... Then set bigger goals. You have to have an aim in mind, find what you like and what you want to accomplish with your playing. For me, I'd give myself a song to learn... Generally a riff or chord progression... And once I'd seen that I can play it (and play it well) that was motivation enough to move on. Sorry for the vague and generalised advice that literally everyone gives but it's so true, in my case anyway. Now I know that every time I practice effectively, it does actually mean I will improve in the long run. Which is where I get the motivation.
