Dude, the guy Anus fights in the first episode is legitimately one of the manliest characters in all of anime. This absolute chad of a man is reduced to a bloody pulp by his opponent's heartbeat, and his first instinct is to say, "I didn't hear no bell!" rather than give up
"If you've seen one guy fall face first through a hot spring and land directly on a tsundere's chest you've seen them all." There has never been a truer statement about anime.
There was a time where I started dropping anime, not because it wasn't my flavor of trash, but because it was so similar to other anime I watched that season, that I though I already watched it before. I swear the hotspring "guy falls face first through a hot spring and land directly on a tsundere's chest" scene has been perfected by years of trial and error to be exactly the same in every anime.
@@xCCflierx Yeah it can be a challenge to find gems out of all the samey animes that come out. One of the reasons I watch videos like this, there are still some great shows happening once you sift through all the bland stuff though.
I'm just going to describe Demon Misfit in a few words from the webnovel, "Do you think that killing me will make me die", as well as 'You think stopping time will stop me,".
@@McGrewer no not really, he said ''People die when when they are killed.'' Anos is not a person, he is a demon, Therefore Emiya is correct and always will be because he is the greatest philosopher in history.
I take great issue with the implication that chasing a flight reluctant aquatic bird is not the height of story telling. It's one of the driving plot points of Hot Fuzz after all.

One of the most mundanely depressing things about this infernal year is how little my life has changed. I still have a gigantic backlog of projects, shows, and games that I haven't cracked into between stress, college work, and having to to share the house almost constantly. I was already so busy and stressed that a quarantine made my life only slightly objectively worse.
Reading this almost sounded like I was typing this out myself. I’m live with 6 people in a 1 bedroom apartment right now and have to also deal with the stress of college and, unfortunately, not having the best GPA. Everyday’s a struggle and sometimes I don’t even get up from bed. If anyone reading this is in the same position, I hope you have a great day somehow. It’s good to know that other people are going through the same thing too. Hopefully, someday things will start to change. Be safe y’all.
Incredible, the most stressful situation we as a global society can be subjected to, due to factors out of our control, and you _AREN'T BEING EFFICIENT !?_ How will a person like you ever be able to serve your overlords well?
In Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out's defense, it was a gag-a-day free webcomic (translated on Danbooru for free, by the way), so having a plot that seems to not know where it's going until it gets there is perfectly normal for the genre. I mean, it begs the question what the hell was the animation studio thinking picking this up. (Besides that it's probably the cheapest possible license, I mean.) Still, in its original, intended form, it's a "pop by when a new one comes out and see a gag with some lovable characters", and doesn't need to be more than that.
big 4-coma vibes from the first episode. they don't typically have much direction, you're right, and the low stakes & gag-a-minute pacing are part of the package, whether that's a positive or a negative to you. definitely a solid popcorn watch in my book.
@@lilbop4942 No, @Prof-Jef is most likely laughing because episode 2 clears up exactly why she was dismissed, because the first episode is about understanding the world from her perspective. And then reality checks in and body slams you to the ground. Even with this, you won't see the twist coming... though on hindsight I am curious why something hasn't done this before.
@@mothersbasement One day man, one... I'm going to have to hear your thoughts on Oregairu for real. Feels like you've only skirted around the edges everytime it's brought up.
I hope he talks about it, imagine his outrage at the first rape season, in the first episode, and the second that is supposed to come later this season.
All of you reading this: RE: zero and oregairu are amazing. But if you all want a nice long anime that will keep you hooked, you all should watch Kaiji: Ultimate Survivor.
I don’t know about anyone else but when Anos was explaining the resurrection magic and then dubbed it the 3 second rule, I burst out laughing just from the sheer unexpectedness of it. And then laughed again when he was like “what nothing? That joke would have killed 2000 years ago” as all the students are still looking at him in horror over repeatedly murdering a guy and bringing him back to life
My Ears: The Misfit of Demon King Academy My Brain: HE'S ON HIS WAY TO THE THRONE, HE'S ON HIS WAY TO SUCCESS! BUT HE HAS TO GO TO SCHOOL, HE'S GOT TO ACE THOSE TESTS! HE'S THE EMPEROR TO BE, AND HE'S, TOTALLY... Kuzco: You know, it's all about me. My Brain: EX ACTLY!!!

@@luigiff3431 Guess they all follow the Drunken Fist fighting style. Anyway, overall, the clips shown lead me to believe that my decision to not bother with the show was the right one. Don't care for the animation, nor the biggest fan of most shonen.
It's especially funny in retrospect to contrast this with his Rent-A-Girlfriend roast video, where he says he can't nring himself to watch it even if that roast becomes a popular vid to give him a financial incentive.
Eh in it's defense, the series wasnt anywhere near as hated as it is now. When this video dropped the manga was nearing the end of what is considered the best and only good arc of the series. and it wouldn't be till much later that it truly became the dumpster fire that others treat it as
Having watched the first episode and loved it, I can understand the recommendation. It truly did not live up to its beginning. In any story where status quo is king, nothing happens and we get endlessly bored and frustrated, and Rent-A-Girlfriend is just that kind of story (with additional urgh to make it actually repulsive to watch).
30:36 that line was so well placed I was at the edge of my seat to hear you mention Oregiaru and Re:zero but I absolutely did not expect you to build the tension and then release it like a disappearing sneeze. Whether that was sarcasm or not, I don't care, I commend your timing
Fair warning: If you go into Rent-A-Girlfriend expecting the main character to grow or mature over time, expect to be majorly disappointed. Even 120 chapters into the manga, he's as much of a cowardly, dishonest idiot as he was in Chapter 1.
As a character, He is well fleshed out. i can truly see him as a pathetic loser. Realistically. If I met him I would instantly be his bully pure;t pff of the fact that he is a lying loser who can never go one day without freaking out
"Thinking I was just watching another over the top, edgy-tryhard light novel wish fulfillment thing about an underappreciated, overpowered magic genius saving the world by telling everyone else they’re wrong." As someone who likes this kinda story a lot, I feel attacked lol
Yeah, this anime was a real "Ain't gonna lie, they had us in the first half...", but now I'm hooked because he's correct. It is the MOST over the top version of this to date, and it is wonderful.
Everyone watch Deca-Dence! This is going to be that extremely unique, once in a decade anime and episode two has a twist that completely changes everything.
episode 1 got me hyped af. I wasn't really feeling ep 2 mainly for the 'twist', but I'm gonna stick with it for about 2 more eps. I think it might be able to pull me back in (hopefully)
I feel like anime has been lacking this year, possibly due to the pandemic, possibly due to a lack if interest in new shows. 2020 has been the year of Infamous Backlog for me. Which has been nice.
Personally for me, it's hard to watch anime it anything for that matter, because I have nothing to help me procrastinate. Like school; now that schools on pause I tend to procrastinate less. I still have work though, so that helps me procrastinate more.
Well.... Would you watch my anime, or rather, read my manga? I promise it will be good. If people have a hard time getting into new shows, will you check out mine just to see if it's to your liking? But... There won't be fan service.... And even if their happens to be some, it wasn't planned.
16:58 and here we are, two years later and Geoff's latest video at the time of this comment is "The Roast of Rent-A-Girlfriend" How the times have changed (and for the better, because I could not see what people saw in this show for the life of me)
Devilman Crybaby is far from underrated! I believe it even won the crunchyroll best anime award the year it aired! It was an instant fav of mine and my bf's and created awesome late night conversations for us 💜
i fell into a depression right before the spring anime season due to my girlfriend of 3 years and I breaking up, so i missed the last 3 episodes of the winter anime season, and all of the spring anime season. I guess im kind of lucky that there arent many this season, as it will give me a chance to catch up. i alrady finished my winter anime (except for ishuzoku reviewers but i plan to), and im making a calendar to watch the spring anime alongside this summers anime. Hopefully i dont burn out. anyway, thank you so much geoff for doing these videos, theyre so helpful to me
When it’s a slow anime season like this, just go check your backlog of “Unwatched Must Try Anime”. We all have a list like it, and there’s never been a better time to hit it up.
I've waited for this moment my whole life. I finally get to say, "I read the manga before it was cool and made into an anime." You've gotta read the manga for Kanojo, Okarishimasu [Rent-A-Girlfriend]. There is so much heart and skill put into this series!
My gripe with it is that Kazuya has little development as a character. His most progress was made when he decided that he had to start taking control of his life and ended up producing the movie, but even then he's still a goddamn virgin and needed the introduction of Mini to make what little progress he's made. But that aside he's still unwilling to end things with Ruka despite the fact that he knows the girl is head over heels for him and he likes another girl. Man, the chapter in which she steals the kiss and then procceeds to tell him how much it hurts her to be basically a side chick genuinely made me fucking sad.
The first episode hold my attention a little bit but the second one lose me. The Main Character is so unlikable and annoying and unless it has some Toradora level of character development, I don't think that would change much.
You sold with the whole killing someone with his heath beat Geoff forgot to mention the most important thing about rental girlfriend.....fMC is voiced by Aqua Speaking of backlog, i might go back to "To Aru" i left on Index 2 and i really want to catch up so i can watch the new Railgun and Accelerator.
Railgun T is before index 3 and takes place at the same time of Index 2, you can watch accelerator after S2 of index but you can watch it anytime since it isnt really a spoiler for any Season of Index & Railgun, you can watch Index 3 and then Railgun T but In my opinion Railgun is better than index
Great Pretender is fantastic and hella underrated Also, in my backlog I'm finally getting around to watching the Rebuild of Evangelion series, and then I'm heading over to Gunbuster and Diebuster
@@elpizo1789 yeah you're right. That's probably why lots of people aren't talking about it. It has the potential to be the next Baccano! It's got this cool vibe that most anime don't have. I highly recommend it, I don't see it going off the deep end any time soon
elpizo1789 I was so hyped to finally watch it after hearing about it last year, then quickly realized I’ll probably have to wait months until it’s done airing only in Japan.
Need a show to watch this season? Then I definitely recommend Now and Then, Here and There. It's an older show (it aired back in 1999), but it is an absolutely fantastic show.
Oh man. I've seen that one. It was super good like I think it just may be the best "Isekai" anime ever... Super bleak, sad af, war-torn landscape, (maybe) in the extreme future setting, etc. etc. Oh, and also Hamdo!!! Glad to see someone else who's seen it 😁
Just a word of caution here : the anime was inspired at the time by child soldiers and massacres in Africa... It's an amazing show but very dark, not child friendly at all despite the style of animation !
The anime's story so far is so underwhelming. It's obvious they are rushing the story as fast as they can without character development, so by now Idc about them and how they end up, I just keep watching for the fight scenes (which btw are getting worse, unlike the first episode, and which most fights can be seen in the intro)
Nyaruko-san is quite the experience if you like that sweet weird shit that only anime can provide, and my god the references especially if your familiar with gundam, jojo and/or kamen rider
Geoff say no more about Super HxEros I'm going to watch every godamn episode because the amount of composure to describe the show you must of had is staggering
Hxero is practically "So i can't play H" but with sentai, then again the MC of "i can't play H" had to power up a few demon girls with his horniness but his preferred girl was the tsundere
i’m not into fighting animes but i’m not sure if i should keep on going with the god of highschool anime. is the webtoon better? and does it get more interesting?
@@Snow-ej5fm It´s worth it. But many people wont like what it would turn out to be. The animation and voice acting are really good though, so I think its worth watching. If u r rly bored then read the webtoon.
So me and my friend play a few levels of the mr. love game every now and then. The blonde guy (who we call frog boy) is the only one we like, since he's a giant manchild, while the other 3 just feel like carbon copies of each other. Like, you could have designed the other 3 in so, S O many different ways, and you choose: dark-haired, serious-but-soft-on-the-inside stock character. For ALL of them. But, we did accidentally name our MC 'Ol west noggin' since I thought it was just gonna be the name of the company, not the character. So that was fun, at least.
Honestly when I was playing the game Victor (the CEO) always came off as a prick, though I didn't mind the other two that much. I hope the anime fleshes out Victor's motives more than the earlier chapters do.
Finally someone actually understands what I mean when I say crappy character design LMAOO I played and at first I was invested in the story but I got to a point where I groan everytime they have a cut scene and wish the creators installed a skip button. Literally can't even remember anything about the characters except "rich man, idol dude, police officer, and generic guy"
Well, people who get punched in the face often, like a seasoned martial artists tends to get a red nose most of the time. For the other hand, is the way to identify relevant characters in the series.
Rent-a-Girlfriend actually surprised me because I expected it to be fanservice-y, with paper thin character, and ecchi. It really surprised me with how the characters are written, and how well they interact the each other
Yeah, thought the mc really sets up a lot of the hated scenes in this anime which is sad because it drives people away. If it weren’t for his hypocrisy/spineless behavior I think more people would stay . With that being said those exact same aspects help drive the story so . Also ruka is best girl
“The plot is as straightforward as you can get” he says confidently and unknowingly. Boooooooyyyyyyyyyyyy your in for a wild ride. Watch some k-drama to get a taste
I love it so much and I know it’s the bad junkfood but good and damm it’s so entertaining JUST He spin a castle as a basketball WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT IN A ANIME 😂
@@animeyahallo3887 I feel your pain. Because when an anime ends it's sad because you've been with those characters for so long. But even if the anime ends, it's fun to imagine their story continuing, just off screen. Like, you know "Banana fish" some of my friends cried over it so I rewrote the ending for them and they liked it. It's fun to imagine the journey of the characters continuing even after its aired ending.
My want to watch list is currently at 146 titles. People have been telling me to watch Yona of the Dawn so that is probably what I am most excited about from my backlog.
8:22 Wait, what was he doing with those fingers that needed immediate cleaning?? Also check out 29:23 You know there's care in a project when eight characters are all running differently
Serious answer, in 8:22 he was treating a patient. Those fairies sanitize his equipment and help soap his hands. It's one of the few nods the story gives towards actual medicine.
It's kind of disappointing for a work of Yuasa. But not every director could come up with a masterpiece for every film he directed. That's important to remark.
I'm catching up on some fantasy books like Dresden and Book of the Ancestor this season. But super hype for more Re:Zero and loving Rental Girlfriend for sure!
I decided to watch all the shows so I could give my thoughts on them but this man pretty much did the job for me except for ranking uzaki at dead last which was one of my favorite shows this season but I respect his opinion
Sounded to me like he didn't mind the show at all but if he had anything positive to say about it he'd get targetted by some social judgemental wokers so he's playing it safe.
Bg Link24 I don’t necessarily hate some shows I just have personal favorites over certain ones but that’s just me being biased isn’t it? Also no I dont hate Hxeros
Hopefully, I'm going to finally finish Kaiji, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Durarara part 2 this summer. I might also get into Ranma, too.
Don't fret. Watch it in the chronological order (a bit of a hassle, arranging the eps in order) - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya 1-6 The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody Mysterique Sign Remote Island Syndrome 1-2 Endless Eight ep 1-8 (you don't need to watch all of them - 1,2 and 8 will do. Most of the middle eps have very little difference) The Sighs of Haruhi Suzumiya 1-5 Mikuru Asahina’s Adventures Live Alive The Day of Sagittarius Someday in the Rain The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (movie) - This way, you won't be confused. If you want to experience the frustration with no hassle, watch it in the airing order.
Watch it in any order. But you absolutely MUST watch all of endless 8. To skip a single minute of it is to fundamentally miss out on the Haruhi experience.
When you list your recommended anime as an image rather than saying their names, you prevent any sight impaired people from being able to access that content. Don't do that, please; its bad accessibility. I also found it frustrating as someone who didn't want to watch the whole video to find that list (at least time stamp it) and someone who couldn't easily tell the anime name from the images.
That's my usual routine, but I do usually wind up checking out a couple of shows he recommends. And last season, two of those wound up being my favs. Of course, other times, the ones I try wind up being garbage that I drop pretty quickly, like the Rent-A-Girlfriend show.
Pretty much. I hadn't bothered to even look up everything yet despite the dearth of releases, so getting a quick synopsis on the ones I missed didn't hurt, and sometimes he recs something I would've skipped on and regretted missing.
It's real good, but it doesn't hit Full Crazy until the arc that will start a potential season 2. Which is amazing, considering how crazy good it already was.
Hearing Geoff swear "By Haruhi!" is an all-time great moment for me. I'm always saying things like For the love of Haruhi!" or "Praise Haruhi!" Way to go Brother Geoff! Who else would the Anime Pope swear by but the Anime god? 😂😂
I've decided to finally finish Log Horizon, and once that's over, the three gundam movies that are, from what i understand, an edited down version of the first gundam series were uploaded by GundamInfo, so ill be bucking down to watch them once and for all. It's weird how i have near encyclopedic knowlege of almost every other era of UC, but i still like suits like the Guncannon and Z'gok so much more than their post OYW replacements. Also, this isnt in the original gundam, but its not post OYW either, but the Hy'gogg is PEAK ZEONIC AQUATIC DESIGN
Man those 3 Movies are great. Thats how I got into gundam... it kinda sucked though because after watching the movies I was a fan of char and I started watching the first series right after and he always got his ass handed to him by that stupid new gundam thingi ;D
I started out reading both misfit at demon academy and rent a girlfriend on manga rock, and I’m both happy and really surprised that they got anime adaptations
Misfit of Demon King Academy is such beautiful parody. It takes itself very seriously while also not at all and I'm here for it. Just seeing a clip of the "aww, our baby is so cute, what should we name him?" Baby: "ANOS VOLDIGOAD," had me instantly onboard for the rampant stupid insanity I was about to witness. And yet it had some heart in it as well.
As a player of Mr. Love: Queen's Choice, I am really loving the anime so far. Can't wait for more episodes. And for the record, the story gets so much better. Lucien is sweet, Kiro is cute/fun, Gavin is strong/determined, and Victor...well, he's an ass -but we love him anyway! The first episode was deliberately bouncy to introduce all the guys. It gets really dramatic fairly quick (if they stick to the game's plot)
I'm putting on my clown mask to watch MLQC because I am a 22yo grown ass woman fangirling over otome animes the same way I did watching Amnesia when I was 14
Steins gate is amazing, and aot toward the end gets as amazing as anything. I hope you actually watch them (havent seen Initial D so no comment on that)
I was pleasantly surprised with both Uzaki-chan & Misfit of Demon Academy 😊 Uzaki, because it lampshades one aspect of her “hanging out” (oppai) in favor of the more story-relevant aspect (befriending sempai), and Misfit in that it actively obfuscates the “is it serious or not?” question, such as every time Anos cracks a joke that everyone else takes as a threat, his confused reply is “well, it was funny 2000 years ago” 😄
I would never have given Rent-a-Girlfriend a second glance after seeing its title and premise. I also dropped Misfit of Demon King Academy after about half an episode of over-the top tryhard edgelord etc. But that's why I watch AniTube-to pick up on good/amusing anime that I'd otherwise overlook (or not know exist).
@@sheriffaboubakar9720 To be fair, it doesn't sound like Geoff would disagree with you about Misfit etc. He'd just disagree on whether it's an enjoyable bad or not.
I’m watching Cardcaptor Sakura for the first time! I’m about halfway done with all 70 episodes, and afterwards I’m going to keep the magical girl vibe going with Tokyo Mew Mew. Big thanks to Yazy for inspiring me to give it a chance!
I'm going to finish Monogatari - I'm in Koyomi now. Otherwise "New Game!", and I rewatched the entirety of SAO... because, no matter what you say or think about it... I find it to be compelling, and emotional... and has made me cry a lot. In my 2.5 years of being in, and a part of, this community... the thing I'm saddest about is how acceptable it is to not just shit on SAO... but to also shit on people that like SAO. I've had too many run-ins on Twitch while streaming myself drawing an SAO character where someone comes in to shit on me for liking it. I wish it would just... stop.
Hey man, just wanted to pop in and say you're completely okay for liking a show others hate. If you like it enough to stream you drawing it don't let some rude comments stop you. I'm sure Geoff would agree, that when he critizes the show, he's doing so in a technical manner, and only critizing the show itself, going after people who like it is uncalled for. You're allowed to like somthing that's flawed, or have a different opinion about it. Anime is art, and art is subjective. Have a good day!
First up- monogatari is amazing! Secondly, I totally get you on that front. People kinda forget that they're not the only ones who exist in the community. The elitism and gatekeeping in the community and social circles gets a bit much, but you're absolutely valid to watch whatever the hell you wanna watch!
Its perfectly fine to shit on SAO. This utterly stupid aspect of modern culture where it's okay to shit on people who like things you don't needs to go both within anime and without.
SAO is the show (other than Avatar) that got me into anime, and I’m glad it did. That said, SAO Abridged is much better in my opinion and I would never again willingly watch the original. I’m not saying that you’re wrong for enjoying it, I’m just sharing my opinion. Just wanted to clarify.
