Thats like the ultimate skill, food is expensive amd spoils, and foraging is time consuming, energy intensive, and requires a ton of knowledge. Also i assume you could train it up enough to summon lethal quantities of food/groceries/supplies onto your enemies.
Also, amazingly useful for medieval warfare. You're besieged? No worries, you won't starve before they do. You need to move fast? No problem, you don't need to carry most of your supplies.

I watched the first 2 episodes of Nier. 1st episode is just random pointless action that I dont care about, 2nd episode is when the characters do something that can be considered a story
I've been reading the manga of Reincarnated Princess and it IS a TRUE yuri. I'm really hoping the isekai aspect, which has been very minimal so far in the manga, will help it overcome the anime industry stigma toward yuri anime. Though I feel like it's a self made stigma by them not doing the best job of promoting them, rather than the anime not finding an audience
It checks all the boxes of a great fantasy. Worldbuilding, complex characters, fascinating plot, deep themes, and beautiful animation. I came from the manga but the anime adaptation is fantastic. Plus yuri is da best.
I'd have hoped the new Gundam being a really good yuri would have done something about that stigma. But yeah, Magical Revolution is fantastic, absolutely my favourite anime this season.

@@theautisticfilmmaker1944 If you haven't started Spy Classroom yet, I would recommend staying away from it, they've butchered it so far. Incredibly fast pacing and skipping all the character development, maybe it'll get better but can't see it personally.
I finally need to get to watching Tomo-chan, I love the manga and let's hope this show will be the start of a wave of the Tomboy superiority fighting side by side with the Yuri Legion. Blessed be Reiwa.

I'm honestly so excited that 2023 is shaping up to be a *real* good year for yuri anime. (including a bunch of manga adaptations I've actually read for once lol) enjoy Magical Revolution everyone, it's (hopefully) a very good sign of what's to come (I can't wait for the I'm in Love with the Villainess anime, it's gonna be such a good time)

I know it's really insular and impractical, but I think the more literal translation is really funny.

Great Video MB! Though I’ll have to disagree with you in your hier automata take. The second episode is super slow paced and makes for a great introduction into the world. It’s only the first episode that adapts the games tutorial that leaves the viewer a bit lost and confused. HOWEVER that is exactly how you feel after playing through the tutorial of the game to. It’s intentional. Your not supposed to understand what’s happening in the first episode. Also i think it’s kinda unfair to criticize the use of ingame models show a scene of them and then cut away immediately before the super beautiful ingame lazer cuts through them.
I'm a Huge Kiseki fan so I'm keen to see how The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel Northern War, Goes. But it's not the sort of thing that you can recommend to people is it? I'm probably a big enough fan of the source material to overlook it's issues too.
Can we talk about how weirdly good Eminence In Shadow has gotten? Like.. it was already dumb. And a straight guilty pleasure. But it's gotten both a lot funnier and more interesting as the season goes on.
I love how it's so dumb that it's genius. Like, the MC in the novels is literally thinking to himself "Man, I'm such a chuuni loser" without even realizing that his stupid bullshit was 100% on the mark in every situation, and I am just 100% with it. One of the very rare times I immediately went from watching the first episode or two to just straight up reading through all the novels

I really hope Tomo is the start of the Tomboy anime resurgence... specifically tomboy girlfriends/tomboy childhood friends becoming girlfriends. There's a bit of a vacancy in those.
Heck yea! Unfortunately it has been found that childhood friends start with a psychological disadvantage, as for whatever reason humans that grow up with each other tend to eventually not view each other as romantic partners. So in that case rooting for the underdog is fun :)
Misuzu is my spirit animal. She and Carol make the perfect light femme/dark femme pairing (along with Tomo's tomboy, of course). I'm so glad Tomo-chan became an anime, but definitely go for the manga - they actually have progress and closure to their romance! Also, woo! I loved Trigun as a kid, so a remake is... oh, god, this is one of those 30 year cycle things, isn't it? I'm feeling so old...
"Campfire cooking" is really just the vibe this season. It's a feeling that made the first season of Shield Hero at all tolerable to me and I've been looking for more of it ever since.
Honestly I started watching Magical revolution for the magical inventions, but I’m also now genuinely interested to see how Euphie develops as a character in response to the new situation she finds herself in.
Yeah, it's the best pure romance of the season. The vibes are immaculate, and both of the leads are so so so pretty, but not in a ridiculous way. Fuyutsuki is second-best girl of Winter 2023. Best girl is the yuki-onna in In/Spectre s2, real ones know.
Sadly don't think the show is "adult" enough. They are supposed to be adults but all he can think about is "ooo Fuyutsuki just stared at me", it feels like another high school romance (which I love anyway so I don't mind, but it just doesn't feel like another Wotakoi for example)

Magical Revolution is great, especially the protagonist. It’s nice to see the rare Isekai lead who has a level of confidence and accomplishments they’ve actually earned.
It also doesn’t focus on that isekei aspect to hard. Instead that just happens to be what inspires our character to move forward to achieve her goals and as a result she’s invented a whole new field of study. I guess it feels sort of like the ‘by the grace of the gods’ anime where it focuses on the whole guy studying slime and what results from that.

she's also a chaos goblin, just an absolute little stinker who would have lit the entire kingdom on fire or got herself killed if it weren't for her amazing maid reining her in a bit. I just love that the anime opens with her going beast mode on some wolves so you understand up front that her goofiness masks a terrifying force of will that allows her to do ANYTHING to accomplish her dreams. Fortunately she's also genuinely a good person, but the series doesn't shy away from how her actions have massive ripple effects that she doesn't think about until they come back around to bite her. Without someone with a sense of responsibility and practicality, who knows what she'd do?
Honestly kinda surprised Ice Guy and His Cool Female Colleague didn't get more spotlight, it turned my heart to mush on a few occasions and it's animation is really neat and cute.
It's because he's a guy, it's not his fault. They usually lack the necessary emotional sensibility to enjoy what others may understand has the potential to become a masterpiece of its genre.

The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten would probably also make my list. A romance anime about a guy who lives next to his school's idol who ends up helping her out and slowly starts a relationship where she helps him live a more healthy lifestyle by cooking and cleaning. There are some hints early on though that said "angel" doesn't have the happiest life either and her high level of independence and academic prowess are less born from talent and more from an unhealthy relationship with her own family. Idk why, I'm a sucker for this sort of romance.
it's kind of boring so far, but the hints to her past are ominous as hell, and she keeps saying things with extremely depressing implications, so I'm definitely in it at least until a shoe drops.
I'm also surprised you didn't mention "disillusioned heroes will save the world!". It's one of my favorites this season, the character dynamics are genuinely great, and it feels like it's gonna have some nice, nice payoff.
@@NinjaQuick It's been pretty solid so far.....a good balance as adaptations go. You can tell they've put thought into how to do it right. Of course all seasonal anime can fall apart midway through but as far as ep 3 I'm on board
I did enjoy the show but tbh there is something about it that feels a bit off to be so far. Like, second episode we get it. You guys don't trust each other. Could have said it like half as much or less and I'd still have gotten the point just fine tyvm. Also the emotional beats of the dragon girls story just didn't hit me very hard because I saw it coming a mile away and then kinda wished she had had more interaction with the foodie guy. I'm definitely gonna stick with it, and I hope it gets better, but that is only because I am an absolute sucker for fantasy.
A decent isekai that didn't make this list would be "Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for my Retirement". Has an intelligent protagonist who takes advantage of her new found ability that doesn't help her physically speaking. She can switch between her world and the fantasy world, and doesn't have arbitrary physical boosts. But she can bring a gun to this world. On that note, it actually does a really good depiction of training in the use of firearms as well. They actually give guns the respect they deserve as dangerous weapons that can cause devastating damage when used carelessly. I also have light novel spoilers from a friend (I haven't revealed anything past episode 2) to know that if it keeps the pace it has very good potential.
As I have never seen/heard any Trigun spoilers hopefully I'll enjoy Stampede even more. I wanted to watch it anyway as the animation looks beautiful, but glad I don't need to know the og series to enjoy it. Some of these others look worth checking out too - thanks for the recs!
Awesome to see you mention Campfire Cooking but I'm surprised you didn't mention a rather giant, white and fluffy part of it. I will say it getting an anime adaptation came outa nowhere for me and so far it's been great.
DO NOT sleep on Handyman Saitou Isekai. It has the best d*ck joke in anime I've ever seen, delivering on both humor AND worldbuilding at the same time.
I might be in a minority here, but I've totally been enjoying Onimai. It started off weird enough to make any casual viewer uncomfortable, but the more you watch it, the more it becomes strangely wholesome, unique, and captivating. The art style and animation is so pleasant to watch with how vibrant and full of vigor it is thanks to the Mushoku Tensei animators on top of that. I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes a slice of life classic one day.
I know that Buddy Daddies is capitalizing on the SpyXfamily success but it really has its own charm and is different enough to not feeling like a knock off version, and the quality is been pretty consistent on the episodes released until now (3) SpyXfamily is gold and Buddy Daddies is like silver or copper and it helps to cope with the lack of SpyXfamily by now. I recommend it
Tbf it might of just been a coincidence with it and Spy x Family. From interviews I've read, it usually takes at least a year and a half for an Anime to go from concept phase to post-production phase. So the turnaround time for Buddy Daddies doesn't really line up.
Buddy Daddies focus more on the experience of raising a child, especially in Japan. I don't think it can really be compared with SpyxFamily since the initial setting is the same but the tone and purpose it shows throughout the later episodes make it clear it wasn't supposed to be a SpyxFamily knock-off or lookalike. I like Miri more than Anya cause she feels more realistic as a child and Kazuki and Rei's struggles seem to match up a lot with new parents in Japan. In my books, Buddy Daddies is gold.
I went into Onimai expecting degenerate garbage and came away confused, because it's surprisingly wholesome (-ish, it's more explicit than the manga) and one of the best animated shows of the last few years. Check the credits, there is talent stacked out the door and around the corner. Akio Watanabe has a storyboard credit and he was the chief animation director/character designer on Bakemonogatari. The OP was keyframed by the guy who keyframed the OP for Madoka Magica. Kay Yu the internet meme animator was brought in because they needed a specialist in boob jiggle. This show let the animators go as hard as possible at all times and I can't for the life of me figure out why, or why this show in particular. It's captivating to look at even if the story isn't doing much beyond a normal SOL.
"Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skills" became one of my top three anime from the very first five minutes of the very first episode! I absolutely LOVE the vibes, the characters, the world, the ohmygoditlookssogoodiwannaeatitsobad food etc etc... Like someone already said in the comments, it's comfy, quirky, fun and chill and I'm all here for it!
It's worth noting that Tomo-Chan's manga stood out to me because in addition to all the standard trappings, its characters have a level of internal complexity that's pretty unusual in anime. That's carried through to its adaptation as well.
Hard agree. I especially liked how... (Spoilers for the manga) ...the manga acknowledges that Gundou's insistence that Tomo be "more girly" was, although well-intentioned, more like a curse. It was a very pleasant subversion of the trope and seeing her apologize for it made me quite emotional. Such a good manga.
@@slevinchannel7589 I dunno man. They're not gonna be able to adapt the panel comps and they don't have the budget to try and make up for it with directing or animation. But good panel composition wasn't what kept me coming back to the manga. I think there's still plenty they can adapt, and it seems like the anime is on track to get a 'pretty good' rating. Maybe even 'very good' if they adapt the whole story and execute it well.
I am surprised "Ningen Fushin: Adventurers Who Don’t Believe in Humanity Will Save the World" has not made the list or at least the bargain bin. It's surprisingly good, each of the 4 characters in 3 episodes got their backstories explained and some really great interactions got setup already. It also does some things that really make them work as a party beyond just the initial reason. Half the time I had a feeling reminds me of Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash..
Agreed. This one has surprised me. I won't call it amazing, and the main main character Nick does have a bad case of kicked from the party to start the story. It has done well in what it sets out to do though in putting together a team of deeply flawed protagonists who are trying their hardest to work beyond their pasts to realize the adventuring they still genuinely want to do.
I didn't think of Grimgar, but maybe that's why I've been drawn to this Anime so much. I love Grimgar and I've loved Ningen Fushin too, plus the ED is great too.

But the really good part is that all 4 of them do have decent backstories and are really well setup why their characters are the way they are. And those were some really raw deals some of them got dealt.
I'm enjoying 'Kaina and the Great Snow Sea', got very Netflix's 'The Dragon Prince' vibes with it's Western Fantasy aesthetic. The animation being CGI is a bit rigid, especially compared to Trigun this season, but it still seems worth a watch for the time being.
Campfire Cooking is one of my favorite isekai mangas to date, so imagine me finding out it's got an anime as well! Highly recommended for cozy vibes, the male lead being a total sweetheart and definitely none of that isekai OP leveling and panty shots bullshit.

I /really/ laughed and was sus when you mentioned Campfire Cooking, but I might give it a look now. Still not high on the list. Saving 80,000 Gold is really good to. I've read the manga version and it's a really interesting story. Although the anime seems to have toned down the violence quite a bit unfortunately.
My favorite part of Magical Revolution is that they explicitly state very early on that Anise is in fact interested in girls instead of just hinting at it but never confirming it, as well as the fact that the romance isn't the thing that drives the plot, it's just a part of it.
Honestly that was what I was going to say. Just outright stating in like the second episode "Yeah I don't wanna be queen cause I'm gay thanks dad byeee" was so refreshing.
@@diamond_dynamo2214 I started reading the manga after I started watching the show and in some areas, yes, it is more explicit, but in some areas, like the scene where it's revealed that she is lesbian, the manga is way more explicit, with the scene in question showing Anise on the throne with a literal harem of women.
I can't be the only person that saw that Trigun Stampede footage and immediately thought it was utterly fugly, can I? The character designs, the shitty CGI, how are people talking positively about this show??? (The plot changes also sound utterly awful, but it's really far too early to tell really, plus a lot of current fans won't have seen the original, so that's a completely different thing and only potentially an issue.)
the ice guy and his cool female colleague is easily my fav anime of the season, including continuations. i thought it would be really dumb too but like it a lot for reasons i can't explain. highly recommend
Some of the ones that aren't on the list but I like a lot: Spy Classroom: In a cold war a spy veteran lost his comrades that were like family to him and starts training a group of girl-spys who grow very fond of him. A lot of hilarious twists and spy-action. Sometimes a bit silly but very enjoyable. The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten: Highschool-Romance. Girl has the best grades but gets secluded by her family. So she lives alone next to our MC. He helps her out after he finds her sitting alone in the rain. In return she starts helping him with his messy apartment. Relatable, grounded characters, very heartwarming. Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement: A sweet isekai-comedy about a young woman who can jump between real world and a medival fantasy world. Equiped with modern gadgets and weaponry she's scheming to make a lot of money, selling goods to the fantasy world but gets pulled into a lot more than she intended. The production quality is not that great unfortunately.
I just want to say, as a child care professional, I'm impressed with Miri's characterization in Buddy Daddies. A lot of the time when adults write kids they make young kids too mature and older kids too childish, but I was able to accurately peg Miri's age from context clues before it was said in the show, and that's impressive.
Oniichan wa Oshimai is legit one of my favourite manga. I'll tell you that it's seriously good and you should watch it probably. But it's also trash, so if you want something profound stay away

It's funny that you spent your sick days binging King of the Hill, because apparently it's extremely popular in Japan and there's endless debates on whether it's better with the Japanese dub or in the original English. You changed things up with a reverse-anime.
I've also heard that KOTH gets a lot of respect within the anime industry and has even influenced some big slice of life comedies, but it's hard to find any concrete sources on that - mostly just english anime community gossip.
I'm still incredibly sore they removed Millie from Trigun Stampede and it put a real hamper on my enjoyment of the reimagined story. I really just don't see the need for the gruff male reporter if I'm honest.
Kinda surprised Angel next door isn’t even mentioned in the bargain bin section considering how highly rated it is on MAL so far. The exorcist isekai is also decent in my opinion. There’s definitely too many isekai this season though.
@RKR I was actually really enthralled by the scene with the robot trying to grow the flowers. That sequence was legitimately really well done. Hope to see more stuff like that the longer the series goes on.
please dont sleep on saving 80000 gold coins for my retirement even tho the anime started a little slow and its not exactly a candidate for best animation of the year the plot is really fun and im willing to bet you are going to love the fate stay night reference that will appear later in a few more episodes
Honestly one of my favorite small details about Magical Revolution is that they *finally* have the isekaied character use modern phrases that the other world doesn’t have. In just the first part of the first episode we have Anis using “win-win” and having to explain it to those around her when they just look at her confused. It’s something that I’ve been wanting in an isekai for a long time now so it’s very nice to see
Man that is almost enough to make me want to watch it on it's own: you so seldom seem to see writers who REALLY want to engage with what it would mean to be someone from another world entering a very different world- it kinda feels like most of them just go "nah this world is EXACTLY like the world you know in just as many ways as it takes to make you feel comfortable but different in the ways that you want to make it feel like you're someplace exotic- and consistent worldbuilding be damned!"
Endo and Kobayashi Live also has a similar element! The characters in our world accidentally end up teaching some modern terms to a character in a game, who in turn uses them in his everyday life and has to explain them

The animals' antics are like two thirds of the series. I don't see how you can say Magical revolution is "12 episodes straight" anything. It's 12 episodes of lesbians. Also as a *connoisseur* of the "rejected villainess, but give it a fun twist" genre, this manga managed to deliver on a good one, long after I was expecting it. Not the best twist on its own, but commendable delivery.

I've been surprised by how good Buddy Daddies is. I like how Miri manages to cause mischief during the missions. The Fire Hunter is another one that has me invested. Mamoru Oshii scripts never miss and the aesthetic has huge Jin-Roh vibes. I hope people don't sleep on Trigun Stampede because the CGI is some of the best in anime history. The ending battle of the first episode, in particular, was so fluid.
Wasn't completely sold on Buddy Daddies after the first 2 episodes, but the episode that aired today has bumped it up to one of my favourites from the season. Feel like it went beyond just being a Spy x Family clone, the added depth to the characters certainly helped that.
@@DieNibelungenliad I think so. It's a solid story about some assassins who need to find a sense of responsibility in their lives by caring for a little girl. There are quite a few funny moments, and I like how she's integrated into the missions. The music and animation aren't amazing, but they get the job done.
I've seen almost no talk of High Card, which is crazy considering how amazing it is. First 2 episodes have just been the epitome of fun and it's bursting with personality.
Man, "Saving 80,000 Gold in Another World for My Retirement" just gets no love this season :( First the LN gets licensed and the publisher dissolves after putting out just 2 volumes, now everyone straight up ignores the anime :(
As someone who read the first two volumes of the Sugar Apple Fairy Tale light novel. They’re not by any means groundbreaking but they have a lot of heart, the characters are very enjoyable, and the world building regarding the fairies is fun and interesting.

I know it’s not the subject of the video yet but if it weren’t for your channel I never wouldve watched Urusei Yatsura. Mild dump here but going through anxiety attacks and panic attacks for the first time ever the last few weeks and watching urusei yastura has actually been surprisingly effective at calming me down! I had no idea that the 80s run was by mamoru oshii and it really shows in the second film! Anyways thanks again love you all hope everyone is safe and well.
I'm happy for everyone who will enjoy the new Trigun, but for me, removing one of the best characters (Millie) is something i can't approve and removes the original hype I had for this new show.
What is so obviously going to be anime of the year isn't on the list...well, I suppose you did mention it will be in another video. With two episodes under the belt, Vinland Saga S2 is really doing a great job so far of adapting the best arc of the story.

I was bored, so I thought, “why not?” Watched all available episode back to back. I thought it was going to be about poker or card games but boy is it so much more.
My single only issue with High Card is that if our favorite card carrying protagonist was really focused on saving that orphanage, the show would be over. Grabbing that golden casino card off Mr. 10-card would have resulted in an instant win. Instead he went after magical cards with power and glory to maybe someday save the kids! Won't somebody think of the kids?!
Been reading the LN of Hero King to Squire.... MC is basically a female Goku... Stupidly OP Battle hungry nitwit with an appetite that can clear an overladen buffet table solo, then ask for seconds... The jokes are however starting to get repetitive, and I'm only on book 4... Also, would like to note that she represents the OTHER Yuri-bait of the season
